No way the (C)raptors were getting rid of Rose and Carter in the same deal. Two guys making the max means that you need to trade about $25 M in salary back in order to get them.. so you'd be trading a star player or about 7 bench players to get them.
I like this trade for both teams. Nets could pull a min-Suns and just let Kidd, VC and RJ run, run and run some more, although they are horribly thin up front.
Toronto gets to try out the "Ewing Theory" (trademark of ESPN's Sports Guy). Now the players can play as a team and not worry about their pouting star. I really hope they trade 'Zo though. Give him one shot at a ring this year on a contender and then let the man hopefully retire and not come back any more.

I think the first one that was proposed shareef, anderson and someone else from portland would have been more beneficial
Afterall carter may have some injury problems but mourning hasnt really returned to form after that kidney operation or whatever it was he had hasnt he

Raptors are doing this trade to start over again. They have too many bad contracts (Rose, Alvin Williams). We dont even know if that trade from Portland was a real offer..
Rethumor not all trades are done for talent. Vince Carter is a talented but prima donna player. He will probably never win a championship because he wants to be the star, get paid star money, but then run and hide when it comes time to take the last shot or take criticism. The Raptors traded him simply to get rid of him and to open up financial flexibility under the cap in years to come, not to attempt to get back players who would win any time soon.

well living in toronto and being a rap fan i have to disagree.
1) they are getting rid of those players because they want to free up cap so they sign free agents in the offseason
(Ray allen has already stated that he would love to play in toronto and he is a free agent)
2) they made this deal because it will help bosh. now they get arron and eric williams who can get boards and give 100% each night. Mourning was just a throw in. he doesnt want to be in toronto.
3) Rose will be next to be traded. latest rumour was eddie jones. that is what maimi offered. toronto still pending on it
This was a great trade for toronto,. Vince carter has not been vince carter for 3 years now. Vince carter in the past 3 seasons has missed 82 games once he comesback off the injurd list. and N.J just took a big risk with his health
and thats all folks

you're hearing through the media that allwan wants to come to T.O. I dont claim to be an insider, but I actually know some 'sources' in the organization who keep me updated. Allen to Toronto is a pipe dream at this point. Being right above Seattle, we hear a lot of him wanting to stay there too but both are highly unlikely. He wants to go somewhere where he can win a championship with his next contract and is willing to take less pay to do so. He's the kind of humble guy I can actually see this happening, unlike most players who SAY that want to win but when it comes to signing the first thing they do is take the cash.
As for what I've heard from my sources (and no I'm not saying who they are), Raptors ARE looking to deal both Mourning and Rose at this point. Hope has been more or less given up on this season (of course they'll never admit that) and they plan on building around Bosh. I think this is a mistake. I like Bosh, but he's going to be a 17 PPG, 10 rebound guy. I dont see him ever being a star player. A solid #2 or #3 option on a team absolutely but not ever a #1 guy on a championship team.

thats the whole thing on allen. They saving money to go out and make a splash. allen wont be the only one. seattle is my second favorite team and it will be hard for seattle to keep him, just because he wants more money and if seattle does deside to keep him they cant afford to go out and get another key player. so very unlickey of seattle to keep allen. Toronto is one of few teams that will have enough cap room to sign him. Remember its all about the dollars nothing to do with media. Its also not media that allen wants to be in TOronto, he has said it, out of his mouth

who will be a free agent?? in denver
last i heard as a rumour is kidd for andre miller
(and if that goes through, very unlikely that allen will land in denver)
and mourning and rose off to those heat for jones and some one else (so there is more cap space toronto gets loses
just beacuase mourning is a baby

The latest rumors suggest that Alonzo Mourning, Jalen Rose and Donyell Marshall may head to Miami for Udonis Haslem, Eddie Jones and prospect Dorell Wright, a 19-year old who Shaquille O'Neal has predicted will one day be a star.

2 first round draft picks is also nothing to sneeze at....especcially withNJ being a bottom team. Anyone know if these picks are lottery protected or top 3 protected like sometimes happens??

I'm sure Miami would love that proposed trade, but it'll never happen. Even if both teams wanted it, it simply cant happen. Just look at the salaries, they have to match up in the NBA because almost everyone is over the cap, a couple of teams being the rare exception (Atlanta is one). Rose for Jones works because they both make the max so that cancels each other out. But Mourning and Marshall make tons more than do Haslem and Wright. So it simply cant happen unless Miami sends some more salary along, which they dont have a lot of right now. Aside from Shaq and Jones, almost everybody makes near the minimum because of Shaq's enormous contract, signed before the maximum per player restrictions of the 1999 agreement. Their trade flexibility is very limited right now unless they were to trade Dwyane Wade, and thats not going to happen...

yah slaries match fine, the problem is that the raps cant trade mourning for 60 days and by then the trade deadline passes
but salaries do work out
so here is now what has to happen, toronto will buy out zo and this is the next possbile deal
rose and marshall for jones, wright, allen and haslim

Courtesy of Hoops Hype:
Eddie Jones: $13.455 M
Udonis Haslem: $620 K
Malik Allen: $720 K
Dorell Wright: $960 K
Total: $15.755 M
Jalen Rose: $14.487 M
Donyell Marshall: $4.545 M
Alonzo Mourning: $5.4 M
Total: $24.432 M
Hmmmmm.... doesnt look like the salaries match so nicely to me now do they... even giving Mourning a buyout (while in Jersey, he thought he should get bought out for a large portion of the remainder of his contract, I think he wanted $10 million or something), he still counts against the cap... So dont tell me the salaries match. If Marshall gets taken out of the deal AND Mourning is bought out, I can see Rose going to the Heat, but not these rumours you're hearing, they simply dont add up.

mourning buyout is a under 4million difference. saleries will work. it will fit under miamis cap. works fine. go check it out
mimai can pick up the rest.
this was also a rumour on www.sportsline.com and earler on raptors.com
just trsut me bro it works out, u are confused cause u keep adding mourning to the deal

Mastermind,
I dont mind you saying it will work, but present some evidence at least. The NBA salary cap is at $43.87 M per team for 2004-05. Miami's current team salary is a shade over $55 M, with half of that going to Shaq. They're not even close to being under the cap, so they have absolutely no manueverability here. You cant just keep saying "it'll work."
I was including Mourning because in a previous post you said that even with Mourning the numbers add up, and I was showing you it didnt. With or without him though, the evidence I've presented shows it'll never work, because even if they buy him out (which I've always believed they would from the moment the Carter deal got done), that amount gets tacked onto Toronto's cap for this season. Without Mourning in the deal, the salaries are still $3 M apart, and under NBA rules thats too much disparity to make the deal. If you can present me with some concrete information to the contrary as to how it will work, I'll shut up... but until then, I'll keep on showing you how it cant work
