Read yesterday that his cast is off, he threw about 20-30 times in practice but only from the shotgun. He may take snaps from under center in the game, but hasn't done so yet in practice. Hope this helps.

With cast off, Cincinnati QB Guidugli expects to start bowl

Wednesday, December 15, 2004

(12-15) 15:43 PST CINCINNATI (AP) --

Cincinnati quarterback Gino Guidugli has the cast off his broken throwing hand and expects to start when the Bearcats play in the Fort Worth Bowl next week.

Guidugli made about 30 throws in practice Wednesday, a day after getting his cast removed and making 20 throws.

"It's going good, better than I thought it'd be, and better than the doctors thought it would be," he said after practice.

Guidugli, the holder of most of Cincinnati's passing records, broke a bone on the top of his right hand Nov. 20 when he slipped outside his home and tried to brace his fall. He missed the regular season finale Nov. 27 against Louisville, a 70-7 loss by the Bearcats (6-5).

The Bearcats won four straight games before losing to Louisville. Guidugli completed 71 percent of his passes for 1,022 yards with 12 touchdowns and no interceptions during that streak, with a school-record five TDs in one game and a career-high 377 yards in another.

Guidugli isn't able to take snaps from center yet, and is practicing from shotgun formations. He plans to try to get under center by Sunday but doesn't consider that a requirement to play in the Dec. 23 bowl against Marshall (6-5).

Before getting the cast off, Guidugli was limited to mostly conditioning work.

"I was just lifting weights, going out to practice," he said. "Watching film on Marshall and taking mental reps, my drops and footwork."

I'M SIDING WITH A TOTAL ON THIS GAME FOR NOW....NO TELLING WHAT HE IS ABLE TO DO I.E. GETTING ANY CONTROL ON THE BALL, BEING ABLE TO ZIP IT IN THERE....WHO KNOWS HOW EFFECTIVE OR ACCURATE HE'LL BE!

Thanks Joepa, Cincy just is no where near the same without him, still thinking about the side. Was thinking under, but then again, if he plays and plays how he was during that win streak, theres no telling how Marshall's stout D will react. They played only one good offence all year IMO and that was Bowling Green who they let put up 56 points on them.

I don't think the coach will let him play if he can't throw the ball with some zip on it!!! That would be suicide.

Nick....would be even worse if Minter let his backups in the game....they're a combined 4-28 passing and were sacked 7x in the Louisville game alone (Guidgli was only sacked 7x all year)....GG is quicker on the release and makes better decisions that for sure, but who know's how effective he can be....GL to ya bro!
