What's wrong with old white guys this week?

Have they had a momentary lapse of reason?

Fighting is in mankinds nature. Why must people act as if it's not... act as if it's some sort of inhumane act? In no way should fighting be promoted or expected. However, we as a race are very emotional. I feel that every person's personal space should be respected. With that said, if someone throws a beer at me I'm going to use whatever I've got to pound their face in.

First Ron Artest is suspended for the season, and now both Clemson/USC are going to be denying any bowl game invitations they receive.

Why? Old white guys. NBA's Stern is an old white guy. Clemson and USC ADs are old white guys. What kind of message is sent when we say that let someone assault you, but don't defend yourself? For the sake of being politically correct?

If someone can help me understand these old white guys then feel free to respond.

rjp, I could not disagree with you more. You make this sound like its a race issue. Artest should be kicked out of the NBA FOREVER. He showed everyone that he is nothing more then a thug. Notice he wanted to beat the crap out of a 180 fan but when Ben Wallace came over to Artest he could not get away from him fast enough. The guy is a thug and no way do we want our children to see those kinds of actions. I am willing to bet that Artest will never play in the NBA again. He is going to spend the next 2 years in court. Every single person there that had a child in the stands can now sue the NBA and Artest. All they have to claim is that their kids were very upset and never want to go to a NBA game again. I think this dumb ass has seen his last day on the NBA court. At least I hope he has. For years Athletes have excepted or not excepted the fact that they are role models. Most ALL kids look up to some sort of athlete and the last thing we want is them seeing people act like thugs. This is about the future of sports and where it is heading. I still think he will be going to jail and I think that he will be one broke thug for the rest of his life. I know a few people who turned their season tickets back in because they want nothing more to do with the NBA. Like BP said, fuck the NBA , who needs them. I gave back my seats before the season started. No way I watch another season of that jack-ass webber and his ball hogging skills. The NBA is a cancer and someone needs to find a cure. I take my hat off to Stern but he was not nearly hard enough on the thug artist. I still wish Ben would have gotten a hold of him but then he would rather beat up a defense less fan. Fuck Artest, I still think he will get some jail time. GL

Steel, the only thing we have ever agreed on is that its better to be on the right than on the left. With that said, i have to respectfully disagree with a few points you have just made. I think Artest should be suspended but not for a year, maybe 30 games. Actually i think he is the only one who shoulndt be in that much trouble. He stayed away while Wallace kept it going and throwing shit at him. I also thought his punch to the face of the fat guy on the court was justified, because fans are not allowed to be on the court. All the other Pacer players who were involved either went for the cheap shots, or just started swinging for no reason at all. At least Artest got nailed a few times (cup to the face and punches from behind) As far as the kids, i dont think you can sue for getting upset, or else i would sue the giants evry week after they lose. I think Artest is a piece of trash, but not because of what he did... Throw somthing in my face and ill start swinging too, its human nature, and just because a guy makes a little more money doesnt mean that he is a target, because if so, then where do you draw the line? How much is he allowed to take before he fights back? cup to the face? punch in the nose? kick to the weiner?

My chin would have been stuck out saying please hit me for sure and then I'd sue the shit out him. He was not in danger at all or defending himself....The 2 guys that got waxed being on the court are fucking shit out of luck if ya ask me...they got what they deserved for going on the court......

Simple terms....Fans can't go on the field and players can't go in the stands.....

Artest has a history of unstable behavior, I bet Mike Tyson is his idol. Jackson should have been suspended for the year also. He ran up there and started throwing blows at any close random person.

These guys are in their place of business. It's the job of the police/ security to take care of fans gone wild, not theirs.
Imagine if in your place of business some one threw a drink on you and you punched them out. Guess what? Your both FIRED!

Is a player supposed to sit back and take it? YES!!
This fan threw a cup from several feet away, unacceptable behavior, but not what I would call life threatening. I believe in self-defense, but that was hardly the situation.

Now if a fan comes onto the court or any field of play and a player lays him out, I have no problem with that. Any uninvited fan is an unpredictable threat to every individual on the field/court.
