The Hokies and Yellow Jackets are two of the top defensive teams in the ACC
The Yellow Jackets have held consecutive opponents under 200 yards for the first time since 1991
Its worth noting that also in those two games Tech has allowed just 14 total points but in those games Tech played MD and Duke, not exactly two powerhouses. (For MD ,if you take out their game against Duke in which both weak teams took advantage of each other, in their last 4 gms they have avg. 8 pts.)
The Hokies are now 5-2 SU and ATS (Hokies are 3-1 SU and ATS since tailback Mike Imoh returned.)
Yellowjackets are 4-2 SU and 3-2 ATS.
Defense has been the staple for the Yellow Jackets this year. They have held opponents to just to just 17.7 points per game, good for 27th in the nation, BUT look at the games GTech has played.
In the three games Tech allowed 21 total points they played Samford (28-7 W), MD (20-7 W), and Duke (24-7 W).
In the three games Tech allowed 85 total points they played Clemson (28-24 W), N.Carolina (13-34 L), and Miami (3-27 L).
VTech would most certainly be associated with the latter group rather than the prior.
As for the VTech D the Hokies are giving up just 11.6 points per game, including a pair of shutouts. They held their own against top-ranked Southern Cal, losing 24-13 in the season opener, and haven't given up more than 17 points in a game since then.
With sophomore QB Reggie Ball taking the snaps, the Yellow Jackets are scoring fewer than 16 points over their last three games and haven’t broken the 30-point plateau all year.
It has been a more balanced effort on the season for the Hokies, who are netting 184.9 yards per game on the ground and another 178.1 yards passing. The big problem on offense for VTech is that they have allowed 22 sacks on the year.
I like the Hokies in the 1stH and to win SU but have a feeling GTech may cover the game.
I also like over 20 1stH but will stay away.
