Nothing against the youngsters, but I'd rather contemplate the picks of the battle-torn vets.

This is a joke right! What if I am 50 and I just started gambling last year? Or what if I am 30 and I started when I was 10? Too funny.. age and capping really dont have anything to do with each other...now you should have asked "how many cappers with over 50 years of capping experience are here" Too funny!GL old timer!

I agree totally with Bo. I am 22 and have been gambling since 15. Yes experiences helps but picks is really what matters.

50 years old. I am not, however, a handicapper, merely a bettor, and a relatively new one at that.
I think there are certain benefits to having watched and played sports since age 5. As there are benefits to having coached once playing days ended. As long as you are aware that, especially in say major college basketball, the game has profoundly changed not so much in how it is played as how the best kids are strictly going to be around for 2 years maximum:especially centers.
Personally, I know having watched, played, and coached for decades gives me an eye for talent.
Not a silly question really: would you rather hire a lawyer with 30 years in the courtroom or one straight out of law school? An investment advisor that has seen the market for 40 years or a guy who thought the 90s was typical of stock market performance?
I see good information from a lot of people here, and have no idea of their ages. When it comes down to it, placing a bet is a decision like any other:listen, learn, and then make a decision on your own. And lastly I would say, bet on the sport you truly do know best, and measure whatever you read against your own perceptions. GL.

I'll be 50 in 2 months and I profusely disagree with golotb, I have not capped 40 years and not changed with the times!!!

golotb, Who made you an expert on handicappers???? You don't know me from the next capper, so I don't know how you can make such a general statement about Handicappers over the age of 50. I handicap all major sports, NHL, NBA, NCAA Hoops, NFL and NCAA Football.

Hey guys,

Thanks for the replies.

And Horatio, thanks for the support.

There really is no substitute for youth. I'm envious of the passion and the energy. But when it comes to sportsbetting, it's all about the experience of hard lessons learned, knowing what to look for and why and not repeating the same costly mistakes.

You definitely raise good points in those situations.

I don't really know the ages of too many cappers here, but I would be willing to "bet" that alot of the ones that are generally recognized as top quality by most (and also have proven results) are between early 30' and early 40's, however....

But hell, I could be wrong, who knows.

Not knocking the older guys (50+) of course, cause there's plenty of them that are getting the job done too.

I'm a mere 31 and I've managed to have a winning season in NBA and MLB this past year since I joined here...although my NFL record is a little crappy right now...and ironically that had been my best sport every year up until now.

Ah well, in any case, good luck to ya. Hope you can pick up more knowledge than you may already have here...i know I have.

top flight, Welcome to the forum, I agree with you. If I were going to follow a capper, I'd want to follow one with 30 years or more experience than one that has 3 to 5 years. Not saying that just because they only have 3 to 5 years of experience that they are not a good capper. Experience can go a long way.

How many people over 50 can use a computer....let alone the internet? For my two cents....if you're just going to copy someone's picks, it wouldn't hurt to go by the # of posts they have. Someone that has over 500 posts or so is at least semi-dedicated. Not that they don't go through slumps too.

31 here, and I've been capping NHL since I was knee high to an elbow pad. Capping NFL & MLB seriously for 10 years, and a newbie to NCAA.

I'd say age only makes a difference if your pulling a Charlie Hustle, and actually competing in the games you cap. LOL.

What does it matter of age? I am 22 and I have done a lot better than most of the "vets", age doesnt matter, you can be 95 and lose your fucking ass off, so dont discriminate because of age.

Well...unfortunately I am someone that Top Flight may talk to. Not because I have any issues with him, not at all, rather I am 45, which means that I am close to 50!!! I wish I was being insulted as an 18-40 year old. I'd give up a few wins for youth. Hell, without my specs I can't see shit anymore. I stand closer to the toilet, I take a little blue pill (to keep me from rolling out of bed!), My cholesterol is up, the only one who looks at me is me, I drive slower than the posted speed limit, I don't understand today's music......shit I know there is more but I just can't remember, Oh yeah!! I stand closer to the toilet, I take a little blue pill.........Age really isn't too much of a factor. Like they said in "Shawshank Redemption"..."Were all inocent in here". Without a face or profile, everyone looks 50!!!! GL TF and the rest of you "OLD FUCKS!!!"

id tail a 12 year old if he picked winners....age doesnt really matter with picks, maybe with money management since you gain experience in that aspect over the years i would think, but even then i dont think it would make much of a difference

im 21, but after last week's philly/clev game, i look 65!

I can tell you guys 1 thing in my 12 yrs of gambling and this is not any bullshit. The man and that spread could give a flying fuck about how old you are, all they want is your money 2 yrs ago I let my 10 yr old cousin pick my nfl bets and the boy went 42-12 until he left to go back to boston with his mother. I made more money of him making those picks with his fuckin crayon than I have ever made to this day. I know it was luck but hey were in the business of luck but for most of us luck is on the mans side and neither luck or the man discriminate when it comes to age. Thats just a couple thoughts on the age issues my 5 cents.

going on 62. i agree with most of whats been said. you do have to change with the times and how the game is played. players are bigger, stronger, faster, and smarter than they were forty or fifty years ago. when i started in the early sixtys you did not have a whole lot of diff. ways to bet, now you have a zillion ways. i started out a flat bettor and i still bet that way. how you handle your money is #1. dont chase, learn too handle the highs and the lows. i've had very good years and very bad years. and its been a blast!!

Ditto....my 5 year old daughter has won me some money....and she picks the teams either by their name or jersey colors, LOL.

I wish I had kept a record of all her picks, but i can guarantee she has won $$. Unfortunately I always play her picks much smaller than mine. Sometimes I think I should do it the other way around though

Not that this has anything to do with handicapping, but it is a true story, lol

Like I've said before though, sometimes you can just guess and be better off getting lucky, than being right and getting backdoored over and over. All wins count the same, no matter who picks em or how they final outcome is reached.

"I know it was luck but hey were in the business of luck...."

I know this is difficult to accept, but it ain't luck. It's knowing what to look for and why. Each matchup is a very, very difficult puzzle. It's like you have a week to solve 50 different Rubik Cubes.

On the other hand, it's one team or the other.

It's as simple as flippin' a coin.

Or having a child make the picks.

Some say "there's nothin' to it".

I think differently.

Probably because I'm old and stupid.

Hey I agree with you on most of what you said. But you tell me what figuring out a game has to do with a DB INT a pass for six points that he caught after it got deflected of a wide outs foot 2 inches from the ground and gives the team that you bet aginst the 2 points they need to beat ur action now that is 100% luck end of story.

"...a DB INT a pass for six points that he caught after it got deflected of a wide outs foot 2 inches from the ground and gives the team that you bet aginst the 2 points they need to beat ur action..."

Fact of the matter is if you knew what you were looking for and why, you would have realized the game was too close to the number and stayed away.

Bettors complain about bad beats all the time.

But the truth is, they'd rather complain about the bad beat than chastize themselves for picking a side where there was no decided advantage. I've been around long enough. I realize when handicapping, there "appears" to be a decided advantage. The Linesmaker has a knack of making things "appear" much easier than they really are. When I first saw Rubik's Cube, I didn't thing it was that difficult either.

50 years are smarter, my butt. I'm 25 years old and have one of the best records in the forum this season. Age plays no factor in my opinion. It's a different game, different players, and a different world these days. We have some good cappers in here BoKnows, Smooth44, and a guy I liked last year TopNotchPlays..... I dont care if these guys are 12,19, or 83. They pick me a winner and they are good in my book.....
