Something has been telling me to take Atlanta since last night.....

I'm probably going to make it my selection today as well.

Any thoughts on the Under bookie??

Thanks fellas....Let's nail this one fellas!

Ace....no play for me on this total....i really liked the under in yesterday's braves game...and you see how that turned out....not sure what to make of the total today...

Cool....

I just think with Beltran and Chipper nicked up that this may finally be the pitcher's duel that the National League series are missing.

Still got 4 hours to make up my mind though!

Let's nail em bro!!!

Like the Braves also!!

I am playing them on the Runline for some added padding.

Atlanta +1.5 (-140)

GL

Also like LA +1.5 vs. the cards.

I like Atlanta today too. I actually like Hampton on the hill better than Wright, and he's not an automatic out at the plate either.

I can't believe a single dog hasn't won yet in the playoffs. Some great chances last night, but it still hasn't happened.

Thanks Stif....I'm hoping the first Dog barks loudly and cashes today in ATL!

I think both dogs cash today....FINALLY, lol

I think Atlanta has too much playoff experience and too good of a manager to lose 2 straight at home, and I don't see that much of an advantage for Houston in this game. I think homefield advantage, experience, and intangibles may be the difference in this one. I hope so anyway.

Lets get off to a good start today on the Braves....as much as it will pain me to cheer for them...I just can't stand that stupid tomahawk chop crap, lol

In the late game I think LA has the pitching advantage. I know they could never slug it out with St. Louis, but even the mighty cards have their off days at the plate, and I think Weaver can keep em off balance enough to keep the game close, with Gagne coming in for maybe 2 innings at the end to nail it down. St. Louis did almost all their damage with the long ball Tues and Weaver is harder to take deep than Perez.

Who do you like in that game?

I think Marquis will have some post-season jitters today. Its his 1st start in the playoffs ever. Weaver has been just good enough all year.

Think it will be a close game but LA has the advantage today, I believe.

In a perfect world, the cards will WIN by 1 and I still cash my LA +1.5 bet!

GL.

Stif...I couldn't agree more with you on the Braves...great writeup!

As far as the other game...I'm leaning towards St. Louis, but I'm not sure if it's worth all that juice! I actually liked the dodgers more in Game 1 than I do tonight...I think that pitching matchup is about even and St. Louis has the better bats, plus home field, and in my mind the better manager...but i'm not sure if i want to lay that much juice....Just feel the dodgers best chance to win in St. Louis was Game 1....going to see how this game is going and then maybe make a smaller play on the late game.....GL bro!

I know some of these starts for Marquis were coming down the stretch when St. Louis had things locked up, but he's 3-7 in his last 10. He started off hot, but wasn't the same after the ASB. I could be wrong and he could come out on fire, but I agree with Woodee. I think LA will get to him "just enough" early for Weaver and Gagne to pull this one out for LA.

I was leaning towards the over too, because the ump is generally an over guy (Greg Gibson) BUT Weaver has 3 starts with him BHP lifetime (1 over and 2 unders.) One of those starts was this year (an under, in a 2-1 win vs SF). The other 2 were when he was in the AL with NYY and Detroit, so i really don't count those anyway.

Marquis has 2 starts this year with Gibson (both unders, and both losses). 2-0 loss to Montreal with Tomo Ohka shutting them out, and Milwaukee beating them 5-1 behind Ben Sheets.

LA is 3-0 overall this year with Gibson, beating SF once and Colorado twice....and St. Louis is 1-2 overall with Gibson this year, beating Cincinnati and losing to Milwaukee and Montreal.

Only thing this really tells me is that LA (due to the 3 wins and no losses) and Weaver (because of the unders) both seem to succeed with this guy BHP for some reason....so even though these numbers doesn't support an over play like I was hoping they would, it makes me like LA even more in a game with their backs to the wall that they need to win.

Plus the public is gonna get kicked in the teeth one of these games. I thought they were really gonna get it on NYY last night, but the Yanks squeaked it out. Line movement is similar today on St. Louis, so this may be their turn to

LOL

Go Braves :bbang:

Thanks Bean...

Stif...I agree that Marquee has not been hot lately, but here are Weavers numbers in September. 1-3 with a 6.03 era in 6 starts. That went into my reasoning saying that the pitching matchup is about even...and St. Louis of course has the advantage in hitting...but i'm still not sold on this game yet. Hoping to nail the braves play early, and then decide on this one later....

Yea, i know Weaver hasn't been to hot in September, but i believe this is a different Weaver than pitched in New York.

Weaver is definitely LA's staff ace, especially with Penny out, so if they don't win with him, i doubt they will at all.

Who knows, but I sure do like what is turning into a huge underdog price with a guy as capable as Weaver getting the start.

I sure hope you guys are right. The Astros lineup is pretty scary. Hampton did pitch great the whole second half of the season and I am hoping he can have a solid performance today.

Be careful guys ROY O is the man and if you have never seen him pitch be careful. The only 20 game winner in the NL the bats for houston are hot and Hamption a old team mate they understand hamption better than anyone in the league. Hamption still lives in houston and is still very good friends with all the guys they will now whats coming. DONT GET CAUGHT IN THE TRAP THAT ATLANTA CANT GO 0-2 AT HOME.

GOOD LUCK GUYS I'M ON THE OTHER SIDE :yeah: :yeah:

GL Bookie!

Just think ATL showed its youth yesterday, and I think Oswalt is a tougher pitcher. This isn't the same Braves team as in the past, and they should be bigger underdogs than they really are because the astros clearly have the better lineup, and definatly the better pitcher going tonight. The only thing going for them is their name and history, but i wouldn't count on that to win playoff games.

Atlanta is young. Guys like Charles Thomas and JD Drew have little playoff experience. Andruw Jones is nothing what he used to be, Chipper is banged up...And on the other side of the ball the Astros have been red hot, and are swinging the bats very well. Sorry but i like the Astros tonight on their way to a sweep

Good luck though

No offense bro, but are you kidding me? Do you really think we form opinions and make picks on games without ever seeing the players play before?

You could argue both sides in this game and not be wrong. However, it seems like you are a Stros fan making a homer bet on em, and that's as big a trap as there is in sports betting.

GL to ya, but Atlanta doesn't exactly blow, and I like em today. Sure Oswalt could come out and dominate today, but there's alot more to capping baseball than looking at who the starting pitcher is.

10-07-2004, 02:57 PM
Thanks for the opinions fellas....

Gmoney...you make some good points, but I have to disagree with you that Atlanta name and history is the reason they're not bigger dogs in this game. I agree houston has been on a roll, but this braves team is a VERY good team. I know they're young, but I actually like this teams chance of winning than the teams of the past few years, that were pretty much playing the entire game waiting for the big 3 run HR from one of their big bats..this team knows how to produce runs...I realize that Houston has some bats in their lineup, but the braves line-up 1 thu 8 ain't too shabby....these guys have been producing all year, and now that they've lost a game, people are thinking they're done....i could be wrong, it wouldn't be the first time....and it won't be the last....but i really like the braves today....oswalt is not unhittable....he's been a better pitcher at home than on the road, opponents are batting .279 against him on the road, and he's 9-6 with an era of almost 4 on the road...that's good, but not great ....even with that i give the pitching advantage to houston....but betting on baseball in the playoffs in my opinion has just as much if not more to do with situations than with stats...and in with the 'situation' along with the stats...i definetely like the braves....anyway...gl with whatever you decide...

stif...the numbers for weaver that i put out there for september are not for when he was with the yanks...it's for this past month...

golo...how does hampton living in houston have anything to do with capping this game? I realize he's friends with people on that team, but you gotta believe he's professional enough to seperate his friends with the job he has to do.....this is Hampton's biggest start of his career...i realize he's a little banged up, but it hasn't hurt his last 2 starts...i believe he steps up to the plate today....

whew...damn i think that's the most i've ever typed in post...lol...

anyway...gl fellas!

Just saw that the Alternative RL line has moved to +240 for the Braves....there's just too much value in that for me to pass it up...don't usually like playing the RL and the ml...but in this case...too much value too pass up.....

Add:
Atlanta -1.5 (+240) [Alternative RL]
3 units to win 7.2 units

Smoltz, Furcal, Chipper Jones = experience and a win

Lidge = inexperience and a blown save, leading to a loss

Home field made all the difference in the world today too with Braves getting the last AB and the crowd finally getting behind em late.

Oswalt made exactly zero difference because Hampton and the Braves staff offset him with a great performance of their own.
