24-28 YTD updated after the debacle 10/1

#14 Utah 10 48 New Mexico 8:00 ET

The Ute’s take their show on the road this week to face Albuquerque in a Mountain West Conference opener for both teams. Utah enters this game 4-0 SU and 3-1 ATS and has their eyes on being BCS busters. Coach Meyer has his team revved up for this showdown and hopes to avenge last year’s loss to the Lobos 47-35 as 8-point favorites. Utah has not lost another game since going 8-0 SU and 6-2 ATS. In conference play last year the Ute’s were 6-1 SU and 5-2 ATS. Junior QB Alex Smith won the MWC Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season for his performance against Air Force where he threw the ball for 260 yards and 2 TD's and had 84 yards rushing. Utah leads the MWC in total offense 463.5 ypg, scoring offense 40.25 ppg and pass efficiency offense 179.99. The Ute’s are ranked No. 4 in pass efficiency offense, No. 11 in the nation in scoring offense and No. 16 in total offense. Utah is also ranked No. 2 in the league and No. 24 in the nation in rushing offense 208.50 ypg and No. 4 league and 26 in the nation passing offense 255.0 ypg. A kid who is going to be a name in the future is Ryan Smith. Smith was voted Co-Defensive Player of the Week in the MWC for his 10 tackles (7 solo), 2 forced fumbles, which led to scores and an interception.

The Lobos enter this game 2-2 SU and 3-1 ATS. The one ATS loss this year was to Washington St. in the season opener 21-17 where they were 3-point dogs. Offensively the Lobos are a running team. Of the 313 ypg, 181 of them are on the ground. RB Dontrell Moore is listed as questionable which normally means that there is a 50% chance that he will play. Back up RB Cox will most likely get the call if Moore doesn't see time. Cox has led the team in rushing in two games this season, however Moore is the deal. The Lobos claim to fame is definitely their defense. They have held their opponents to 66 rushing ypg and 322 total ypg.

Key Stats: Utah has won 7 straight road games posting a 6-1 ATS mark. Under Coach Meyer the Ute’s are 6-1 ATS on the road, 8-3 ATS as favorites, 9-3 ATS off a win and 5-2 in conference play. Utah has scored in 19 of 20 visits to the Red Zone with 18 TD's.

Under Coach Long the Lobos are 18-11 ATS at home, 20-15-1 ATS as dogs, 15-12-1 ATS off a win and 24-11 ATS in conference play.

The series while played in Albuquerque is tied at 11-11-1. Utah has not won in Albuquerque since 1998. Utah is 3-1 ATS the last 4 vs. Utah.

Utah leads the MWC in offense with 463 ypg and in scoring 40 ppg.

New Mexico is tops in the MWC in defense allowing 322 ypg and in scoring allowing 16 ppg.

In the last 5 meetings in Albuquerque the average winning spread is 13 points. This number is somewhat inflated because of a 41-7 win by Utah in 1998. The other four meetings were 7, 7, 7 and 2. 3 of those games were SU victories for New Mexico.

In the last 5 in Albuquerque the average total score is 47.

Although Utah has an explosive offense, their defense does give up some rushing yards. This I believe will keep the Lobos in the game. If New Mexico can check Alex Smith and not allow him to run as he has this season, then I expect to see a total air attack. They will not allow Utah to run the ball, and you need a good running game to open up a passing game especially since the Lobos are going to blitz the shit out of this team constantly putting pressure on Smith, which often results in turn overs.

Plus, don't you think that 10 points is a low number for a #14 team with an awesome offense to spot vs. a mediocre New Mexico team?

New Mexico +10

Utah -- New Mexico OVER 48

Good luck to everyone.

Thanks Fella's, same to you. I like ND tomorrow. I believe that they have a stronger defense and Purdues defense allows too many yards...even against ND. GL
