Wisconsin star running back Anthony Davis is "out" for this game after taking a finger in the eye and leaving in the second quarter of last week's win over UCF. This is extra disconcerting to Alvarez since the Badgers are already without backup RB Dwayne Smith, who is "out" for the season with a heart ailment.
--UNLV's best defensive player is safety Jamaal Brimmer, who had a monster game in the Rebels' win in Madison last year. Brimmer, considered by many to be a lock first-rounder, had 11 tackles, two sacks, two interceptions, one forced fumble and a 55-yard fumble return for a touchdown.
--Despite the lopsided defeat at UT last Sunday, UNLV head coach John Robinson had to be pleased with the play of RB Dominique Dorsey, who dazzled the crowd at Neyland Stadium with his elusiveness en route to a 121-yard outing. Dorsey found paydirt on one of his 18 carries, a 17-yard scamper in the fourth quarter. For UNLV backers, however, Dorsey had one blemish in his performance. While fighting for extra yardage at UT's three-yard line on a play that would've left the Rebels with first and goal in the second quarter, Dorsey coughed up a fumble that proved to be dooming to UNLV's ATS chances.
--According to the Las Vegas Review Journal, WR Earvin Johnson (eight catches for 87 yards vs. UT) missed practice Tuesday and Wednesday with a severely bruised knee, but he will play this week.
After getting spanked at home by the Rebels last year as 20 point favorites (23 - 5) don't expect the Badgers 17 returning starters to forget this game. I'm sure that Alvarez will make sure that this doesn't happen.
UNLV will also be making their 2nd two time zone road trip in two weeks.
