It's a must to see the Washington Monument (you used to be able to go up in it, but it has been closed for renovation recently.... not sure if it will be open or not).... You could also go to the Smithsonian, the Lincoln memorial, and the Jefferson Memorial... if you need a sports fix, there is an ESPN zone in DC as well....

being a Maryland local,I would just go somewhere else with your time...LMAO.....I'm not a big tourist person but some of the muesems are pretty cool,Smithsonian for one....If it's nice out take a stroll thru Georgetown, you'll love the sites there( the women around are sooooooooo hot but your wife might frown on that)...National Zoo( really the zoo and not the people) is pretty cool and FREE at that...Monument is closed I'm pretty sure.If you want a day trip to places in Maryland there are some cool places as well....BE CAREFULL at night as the city isn't the best for sure...you should have fun though so enjoy....lots of awesome places to eat

BP

You like seafood by chance?...Ever had true Maryland steamed crabs before?

jerbeek,

Are you located anywhere near Beatrice, NE?? I go out there each year to bowhunt and would love to drink a beer with ya. We actually are about 15 miles south of Beatrice and for some reason I can not recall the name of the township we stay in, may be the beer, lol. I have been to Washington and definately would visit the Smithstonian, you and you're kids will be amazed at the stuff. Have a good time.

Thanks for the info guys. We are definetely going to the Smithsonian, the question is which one. We are thinking about the Air and Space, American History and Natural History. In regards to safety, isn't the touristy (is that a word?) places OK? Any restrautant suggestions?

Tired of Paying, I live in Lincoln, which is about 45 minutes north of Lincoln. I hear the bowhunting is good down that way, I actually grew up about 20 miles north of Beatrice but am not much of a hunter.

Well one piece of advice I can give you, and I was stupid and did this. Got off the subway down at the Washington Monument and went looking for the Mall. I was ready to shop. Looked and looked all over for it and went in side the Washington Monument and asked the lady working the desk, If she could tell me where the Mall was at. She just looked at me crazy and said your here. I said where, she said the Mall. I said you kidding right she said No it's a Park. LMAO View for the top of Washington Monument is unreal. Do not eat dinner at the JFK Theater. Sucks. Vietnam War Memorial Must see. Arlington National Cemetery to see JFK grave with the eternal flame, Changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, just the way the grave markers are is a site to see. Smithsonian you can spend all day in there. There is so much there hard to see it all in one trip.

Natural History Best one then go over and see the Hope Diamond just to say you saw it. Unless your in to Art then that's the 2nd best one but the Dinosours are in the Natural History one.

Odell is the name of the town we stay in when we are out there. Love it, no stop lights and not many paved roads. If I ever win the lottery thats where I will retire. Hunting is great but the people are even better. Most laid back lifestyle I have ever seen. Its amazing how much things can change just going up to Beatrice. Anyway have a great trip to Wash., I can't wait to load up and make that 19 hour drive to NE.
