It is that time of year again boys, so here we go with first play!

Early in the season in some of the smaller school matchups, it is much easier to get some soft lines and this is certainly a soft line. I have just bet the $500 early max on this game and will hope and pray that this line stays the same when the 1st week of action gets here! The play:

Houston Cougars-3...........5 units

This is a classic 1st week soft line that I am taking advantage of. Houston returns 16 of 22 starters and Rice returns 14 of 22 starters. Houston won last years game by the whopping score of 48-14. This year's game will be played at Rice Stadium, but do not be confused, the stadium is in the heart of Houston and will have twice as many Cougar fans at the game. Houston's sophomore QB Kevin Kolb is coming off a very solid freshman campaign where he threw for 25 td's and only 6 int's. This kid is balls. They did lose big play threat Brandon Middleton, but three of their top 4 receivers return including Junior Vincent who has lightning speed and had 60 catches last season. Houston also has one of the top tailbacks in conf USA in junior Anthony Evans who rushed for 1,149 yards last season. I look for Rice to have a solid squad, but their option attack doesn't pose a 4 quarter threat to the Cougar's defense. This year's game has the making of another blowout and I wouldn't be a bit surprised to see Houston win this game by 20+ points. This line is influenced by the game being played at Rice Stadium, but in actual fan attendance it won't mean anything. I absolutely love this play and just don't see Rice even being competitive. Houston wins big. I would advise everyone to get on this play early while the line is at -3, I'm sure someone will take advantage of this soft line and moved it up. I would still take this game up to 6.5 points for a big play. I normally don't play something for a big play this early, I like to get a feel for the teams, but I am from the Houston area and have followed the cougars this entire offseason. Get on this baby now!

GOOD LUCK TO ALL!!!

jmeeks, GL on your play. Rice is one of those teams that's on my no play list. LOL I hate Rice, I bet against them they show up, I bet them they forget to show up. Rice, Duke, and Tulane all on my no play list for Football.

I like the Cougars in this game too, but wondering where to get all the early lines, so far can only find lines for three games.

my sites are on this game already.....i think we all cashed in on the over in houstons last game against hawaii last year and the frosh kolb impressed me with his poise....by the way i only had him with 5 picks against 24 td's last year....why split hairs?? the kid is the real deal and this looks like an early kick in the man's ass to me.....houston gets up a few td's early and forces the owls to put the ball in the air and it could end up something like 52-10.....good early pick....i look forward to your input going forward....

I dont understand this line for the life of me. Houston was a decent team last year and rice sucked. Houston has Kolb coming back and he should be ready to have a solid year. The only thing i can think of is that Houston may have some trouble guarding the option in this game. Houstons defense is not steller, so this game could see lots of points. I just would think that a team that went to a bowl game last year and has a good qb returning wouldnt be giving so few points to a team that has nothing going for them. This line seems almost too good to be true, and with my experiences it tends to be that it is. Good luck on the play, but this game has me confused.

houstons d could not stop the run last year at all....they downright sucked....but i truly believe they will be much better this year and like i said b4.....if they throw up a few td's i the first half and get a lead it will force rice outta their gameplan and it could be a big rout.....lay the wood....this line will be min -6 by gametime.....and jmeeks u were right with 25/6....

RICE HAD A DECENT LITTLE RUN AT THE END OF LAST YEAR-BEATING NEVADA, SMU,UTEP AND LA TECH AND THEY DID SCORE MORE THAN 40 POINTS IN EACH GAME-- WHO AM I KIDDING !
HOUSTON PUT A WOOPIN ON THEM LAST YEAR 48-14- EVEN IF PAYBACK GETS THEM 3 MORE TOUCHDOWNS THIS YEAR- THATS STILL AN EASY HOUSTON COVER-- DEPENDING ON THE OVER - MAYBE A DECENT PLAY THERE AS WELL.
