Howdy,

Am looking to scrog some ideas for upcoming NFL/College Football contests to run in the forum.

We obviously wont be able to run them all, but would appreciate any ideas you may have on what you'd like to see run here.

Freebies are drying up and becoming very hard to get, so keep in mind a deposit at the sponsoring book may be necessary, plus it gets a much bigger prize pool rolling in.

Fire away!

We'll leave this thread at the top until late July when we get the contest structure figured out. Thanks to all for making this the best little sports forum on the web!

whats the odds of us getting a private pool for ultimatecapper members only at one of the sportsbooks. Maybe they say you have to guarantee them 20-100 players sign up to play for a 5-10 dollar pool and deposit enough to cover the pool for the season, with 1 entry per week per pool. I don't know , that's why you call it a think tank.

Excellent idea.

I know that Carib Sports and Olympic Sports have done such pools in the past. Not sure what it'd take, but we've jotted it down and will surely consider it.

One thing that we're probably going to do is a $5000 or more contest in which guys will dep x amt at a book in order to participate for the prizes. Deposits will be able to be used as betting money, so its essentially free to enter in exchange for giving the sponsoring book some action this football season.

We may actually have a few like that. We'll see what we can brew up.

I thought the weekend warrior contests that we had a few years back were fun. There would be 10 guys post up $100 and they would have a weekend contest.

I'd like to see just a college football TOTALS Contest. I don't never see any online at all, maybe I am just looking in the wrong places.

It would be something different for a change.

last year we had a local group do a weekly fundraiser. we had 60 members in our club.
we charged $25.00 to join

we then charged $20.00 to play each week, you are allowed 5 college teams and 5 pro teams
you would pick your 5 teams
college -$10.00 pro-$10.00
southern cal -14 baltimore -3.5
auburn +3 miami -6
ga tech +6 pittsbugh +3
tx tech -10 new england
iowa -8 oakland -5
win/losses are totalled on tues and each was given
win 2 pt,
ties 1 pt,
losses 0 pt
based on odds posted @ noon wednesday and all bets had to be played (posted) by 5:00 p.m. thursday (all bets included pro and college)

at the end of college season , the weekly amount was reduced to $10.00 just for pro games only

at the end of the college season the total would be posted and the winner of the college season would win

2 free tickets to the sugar bowl
and $5000.00

2nd/3rd place would split difference in pot

at the end of pro season the totals would be posted and the winner of the pro season would win

2 free tickets to the superbowl and
$5000.00

2nd/3rd place would split difference in pot

the registration fee was used for administration purposes.

we also found a sportsbook to take everyone as player, in return we got 2 free sugar bowl tickets and 2 free superbowl tickets. the only problem we had with this book in the beginning was that they required us each to deposit $500.00 or more in each persons account and they change some of the rules on parlays

this year, we are offering the same just a little different. we are raising the join fees to $50.00, raise our membership to 100 and raise our weekly amount to $30.00 ($10.00 for college bets--$10.00 for pro bets--$10.00 for food and drinks) we have found out that most people do drink win they bet. also this year we will use 25% of college fees and 25 % of pro fees and 50% of registration fees to help a needy family at thanksgiving and christmas.glta

Nutty Prof,

Your idea is great, but us as a site cant have anything to do with cash or pools.

We can advertise places that run pools, but we cant run them ourselves. Only sponsored contests from books or contests that have no risk. Great idea though.

Any interest in giveaways from time to time with something like a michael vick jersey, some popular players autographed 8x10, or oddball shtuff like that?

Survivor contest would be fun......You pick one team a week once you've selected the side you can't take that team again. Last person hanging around is the winner.

Cool

I think having a touchdown contest would be fun too. Just like the RBI and Home Run Contest.

A last man standing contest. Like the survivor contest Corey said. You pick one team with no spread and can't pick the same team twice. Love that one. I'll grade it since that fkn JB made me look bad grading the nascar contest. I'll also take care of the one I graded last two years. It was easy to grade and Jerry graded the hard ones, as usual. The man is a machine I say LOL. How he does that shit I'll never understand. Please have a last man standing contest, please LMFAO.

JB, as not to edit my above post. Your doing such a great job grading the nascar contest that I feel it would be a travisty, not only to the players, but to the forum if my ego stepped in and took it back. Man, your doing a great job and its yours for as long as you want it. I don't know how to do all that shit you and Jerbeek do with that, actually I don't know what its called, spread sheet or what ever. JB, I'm puttin' you in for a promotion. LOL. Keep up the great work man. Don't be surprised if you see Senior Bassard in your bi-line LOL, You da man baby.

If I were a sponser, I would love to sponser a contest that only paid once and did'nt have to pay till after the season was half over. Last man standing baby. I'm not beggin' any more LMAO. Well OK yes I am. LAST MAN STANDING. I'll grade the monster. The sponser is going to need a grand. $700 for first, $200 for second and $100 for third. Thats cheap for a FB contest and is less than the going rate for a LMS contest. Especially when they have half the season to give the winner the money.

Ok here is my idea for the football contest.

ONE college and/or ONE pro pick only weather it be a line, side, or total.

Lines, sides, and totals will be posted by a designated individual by a pre-ditermined sportsbook by a designated time (something like Friday at 5:00 or an agreed time). Picks should then be in by 11:00 am Sat or a designated time. This is just an idea and should be treated as such. Changes are welcome.

Here is where it gets tricky, but also helps keep the playing field level. All submittals will be awarded points based on a return on risk. Here is where I need some help, finding a point system based on the risk.

To me this seems like a good way for everyone to pick one solid game for there pick. With combining all three areas of picks and a value for each it will be tough for someone to pick solid every week. This alone will make it interesting for everyone each and every week.

The only thing is deciding on the sportsbook and person to post the final lines at a designated time.

This could be very amusing and serve a very good purpose for the viewers that like to know everyone's "best bet" for the weekend.

Yo- my fathers office had a Survivor Pool which costs $250 a season. Two years ago there was about $30,000 in the pool and i believe it was like week 12, 13, or 14 where there were only 4 players left. Three of the four guys got together and decided to split the pot. They said we'll split the $20,000 and play for the rest. When they approached the 4th guy he turned down the proposal. That same weekend the three guys had the same pick which was early that day and they all lost...the guy who turned down the proposal had I think it was the Jets Over Raiders that Sunday night game...or it could have been the Raiders I don't remember. He sat there and watched the game knowing a victory would have given him $30,000...Well he won it that night...What balls to turn down the money and what luck to win it that weekend.

Ok, we've got a few things in place.

There is DEFINITELY going to be a head to head bracket style contest. (sponsor to be named within 2 weeks)

There will be a last man standing too. When the senior bassard talks, people listen.

Tstarkey, I really appreciate that and may just take ya up on it depending on how the contest load goes. Thanks so much. Means a ton to us.

I liked those Contests where we need to deposit $300 or so, and get to pick 100 games at our own pace throughout the season.

Season-Long Contest.........
Another idea is to pick zero, one or two NFL games weekly.
If our team wins, we get the points they won by. If our team loses, we're eliminated from the contest. You can pick two games and win it all, or pick about 25 all season. (Maybe allow One Free Loser, before the 2nd Loser eliminates you).

We do a version of the last man standing contest here at my work. It is pretty much the same except you pick a team that will LOSE each week and can't pick the same team twice.

Just a different way to do the same contest if the 1st one is succesful.

By the way, we had two guys split the pot last year at the end, which was about $5,000 a piece. I didn't like it, I say play it out with one winner!

How about an NFL Pre-Season Football Contest with the prize being an entry into Carib's upcoming NFL Handicapper's Challenge? You could use the same format as they will be using in their contest where you would make your 5 best selections per week ATS with the same scoring system they are using ie: win=2,push=1 and loss=0.Whoever has collected the most points at the end of the NFL Pre-Season games would be the winner. In the case of a tie you would have to have a Tiebreaker Question, maybe a selected game in the final week total score prediction. The one closest to that final score would win the tiebreaker.Make the top 3 contenders going in to the final week's picks PM their Tiebreaker answer to the moderater of the contest(he could then post their Tiebreaker answers shortly after the Tiebreaker game starts).

Jim,

Great idea, I had almost forgotten about pick 100. Probably going to do one for both college AND pro.

Good stuff, thx for the refresher.

Miklos, not sure if any books would jump on a preseason nfl contest HOWEVER if we were to get them a few signups they may bite on it.

Will look into it! thx

Hey Corey, 3 years ago at the Forum I met Snow, It was down to me and another guy. I had some good teams left but they were on Thursday and Monday and could only play Sunday games. I had no idea who to pick that week and he comes and says hey Yo, wanna split. Well we split and I had the book start an acct for my brother and gave him some. That motherfkr is still playing that money. Last year it was down to Slick1 and myself and I fkn forgot to make my pick cause I went to NY. Well they did'nt put the lines up till right before the game and said I did'nt lose. Then I lost the next week and can't remember how it went but they said I did'nt lose again. They were bound and determined to give me that money and finally won and offered to split it with Slick1 and he refused.

BTW, when I finally did win, I gave Slick1 a chance for a do over and they would'nt let me. Now hows come he gave me two do overs and I could'nt give him one. Oh Well. I don't think either one of us wanted the money LOL funny but true. We both tried hard to give it to the other. The owner of the forum finally stepped in and made me take it. LOL

OK I got a scary one for you.........

I'm thinking of a contest that levels the playing field for everyone. You get everyone in the contest to post thier POD picks and the order in which they are posted you write down.
Then you take everyones name and throw them in a hat and ramdomly draw names out of the hat. You place the names you pick out in order with the picks that are in order. You do this each week untill the season ends. The top Three names have to make thier own picks to stay alive form there. Who ever out of the three does the best in units till the super bowl wins.

Probably not what you looking for but it is unique and it's fair for everyone.

Leave it to me to make things complicated.:gulp:

This may not be feasable but here we go. Assign points to a team such as a power rankings system. For example Carolina 1 and Philly 5 (Thats for Big Pimpin). Someone would have to adjust the point system each week based on a teams success. Lower ranked teams would score more points than someone riding the Panthers every week. Basically players are rewarded for being able to play marginal teams that are capable of covering the spread. Someone with Phiily would pick up 5 points if they happend to cover the spread and Carolina would only earn the player 1 point. Man with the most points at the end is the champ. This system would allow both great cappers and not so great to participate. The hardest part would be on the shoulders of the person to get the point system out each week say by Tues. evening. This allows a player to choose whatever team he wants each week, but one riding a favorite all the time is most likely not going to win the entire contest. Hope this makes some sense and maybe beerman can come up with some kind of points and ranking system.
