It's a league of parity.... The Rams won the Super Bowl one year after finishing with 4 or 5 wins...... At that time, they were in the same class as today's Arizona and San Diego.... PLUS... WHY would they bother playing??!?!?!? A paycheck, perhaps?

Yes they are playing for a pay check but for the older veterans its tough going out and knowing that you have no chance at the ring. I agree that parity is all around the NFL but the teams that are winning are built with solid coaching and even better management. The Cardinals and Chargers have neither. The Palm's take on future Win Totals.


Were the Carolina Panthers the real deal last season, or one-hit wonders? The folks who set the odds at The Palms sports book in Las Vegas apparently believe the defending NFC champs are in for a fall.

Oddsmakers at the popular off-strip Las Vegas resort posted their NFL season win totals over the weekend and Carolina didn't get much respect. Coach John Fox' gang was listed behind 17 other clubs with a projected win total of 8 1/2 ('under' minus $1.20).

Super Bowl champ New England, 14-2 last year, tops the Palms win chart at 10 1/2 along with Philadelphia and Indianapolis.

The three top dogs matched the ESPN preseason power poll that tabbed the Pats No. 1, followed by the Eagles and Colts.

Philadelphia won 12 of 16 last year before coming up short in the NFC title. The addition of Terrell Owens and Jevon Kearse has given Philly fans new hope. Indianapolis didn't take any drastic steps to improve its defense, but it will once again score a ton of points.

Close behind on the Palms win list is Kansas City at 10 'under' (minus $1.30). The Chiefs managed to win 13 games last season despite a porous stop unit. However, their defense doesn't appear to have improved.

There are four teams bunched at the 9-1/2-victory plateau, Dallas ('under' minus $1.40), Miami ('under' minus $1.30), Miami ('under' minus $1.30), St. Louis and Tennessee.

Palms oddsmakers expect the Falcons and Redskins to show the most improvement, and it doesn't take a genius to figure out why. Atlanta opened at nine 'over' (minus $1.30) after posting five wins last season without Michael Vick in the lineup for a long stretch. Washington is also up for grabs at nine wins with wily veteran Joe Gibbs calling the shots following last year’s 5-11 campaign.

The addition of Warren Sapp and Ted Washington should help the Raiders return to respectability after a 4-12 disaster in 2003. Oakland's win total was set at 7 1/2 'over' (minus $1.20).

The Palms and ESPN seem to agree on the league’s poorest teams. San Diego, San Francisco and Arizona rest at the bottom of the barrel. There haven’t been any sports books posting a win total on the 49ers because of the questionable status of probable starting quarterback Tim Rattay.

Arizona opened at 5 1/2 'over' (minus $1.30). That attracted some action on the 'under' and the odds dropped to minus $1.20. Other early betting action came on the Falcons 'under' nine at even money, Chicago 'under' 6 1/2 (plus $1.10), Seattle 'over' nine (plus $1.10) and Tampa Bay 'under' nine (plus $1.15).

Hey Mike, last year my brother parlayed two or three of these and won. I actually think that is the best way to go unless you can afford to tie up some dough on one team till Jan. Here are the ones I like that have value.

Atl un 9 -120 (new coach)
TB un 9 ev (too many egos and not enough momentum from last year)
Jax un 7.5 ev (IMO, Jax will suck all year)
Den ov 9 ev (stocked up in the off season and will do well IMO)

These are leans of course. Glad you posted this Mike. Something I will look into very seriously after reading this.
