Its finally Opening Day here in Davenport for the rehabbed John O'Donnell Stadium. They had an open house last Sunday, and we went down to check it out. Man, if there is a nicer minor league ballpark anywhere in the country at any level, I'd be suprised. Thought you, and anyone else that might be curious as to what it looks like, just click here. http://www.swingbaseball.com/

Not going tonight, but after touring the private club for Club Seatholders, I might be dropping a few bucks for a pair of season passes.....

..I just remembered when Carew was at bat (think it was a 79 game)...and we had great seats 3 or 4 rows up from the T'sl dugout in the Old met. STILL miss that place....one of my drunk buddies spillled half his beer when Carew doubled...on the guy RIGHT below us.

Calvin Griffith...

god..I fucking died laughing...true story. :gulp:

BillyBaroooooo--

Nice looking place. Kinda suprised they would build that nice of place for an independent, Northern League team though. Did the taxpayers foot the bill or was it all ownership that built it?
Read a great book about the men that founded the Northern League last year--can't recall the title right now.

My brother lives in Downers Grove, so the only minor league ball I see when I'm over there is the Kane County Cougars. Have to see if they would be interested in checking out the Joliet park some time.

Rubee--

Man, you ARE an old dude, ain't ya? LMFAO! Only went to the old 'Met once for a Vikings game in the mid 70s....when I would have been 12 or so. My Uncle has lived in Plymouth for 30 years, and my cousins were the about the same age as my brothers and I so we visited the Twin Cities quite often. Can't believe I never saw a baseball game there. Seen plenty of Twins, Vikings and Gopher games in the dump that is the Metrodome though......
It was pretty cool that Carew came out to throw out the first pitch last night. Watched the fireworks from the park down the street after the game last night, then came home to see Carew getting interviewed on the local news. The Swing even won the game, 1-0......:yeah:

My Brother lived up in Fridley for many years..so I know the area. You would have loved the old met...EXCEPT for December. In the late 60's, I saw a couple of games there. Unbelievable, biting cold. Green Bay shit. worse. I remember my Mom actually got frost-bite..and remember the whole family HAVING to leave at halftime. Cant imagine playing in tha tkind of weather. Boom-boom Bill Brown, Tarkenton, Eller, Page, MArshall...long time ago.

Yea...I'm 51 going on 15...and dis forum probably aint making me any younger!!:beer2:

lol "kid"...rubee.

Yeah, this park is very nice, too bad the pictures don't do it justice!!! It's been around since '98 and since it's a Tx Rangers affiliation, it's suppose to be a scaled down version of the one in Arlington!! It's in an area where they are renovating to be something similar to the RiverWalk in San Antonio!!!

Do you live in Chicago or in a suburb!! I have family in Joliet and my sister lives in Berwyn!! My parents just bought a house in another area that is new and I forgot the name, but it's very nice!!

Here you go bugs

http://fast.horrorseek.com/horror/svengoolie/koz.html

Sven just loved rubber chickens, making fun of the Chicago suburb Berwyn, singing song parodies, reading viewer mail, " Thank you, for all those cards and letters " , and most of all BAD jokes.

He was on the air when I was growing up and I anytime I hear BERWYN I think of him.
