San Franciso +120 (Rueter) Over San Diego (Lawrence)
Lawrence:
Spring Training 1-3 10.64 ERA (26 ER's in 22.0 innings and 49 Hits Allowed)
Lawrence Career vs. SF 0-3 4.34 Era (50 Er's in 18 Er's in 37.1 innings)
Larrence vs. Top of SF Lineup:
Durham 4/13 .308
Snow 4/14 .286
Tucker 4/5 .800
Bonds 8/16 .500
Rueter vs. SD Lifetime: 11-2 3.29 Era (50 Er's in 136.2 Innings) .257 Averaged Allowed.
Lifetime Record vs. SD Hitters:
Burroughs 2-16 .125
Loretta 6-26 .231
Giles 2-21 .095
Nevin 9-45 .375
Klesko 6-30 .200
Greene 2-4 .500
Payton 6-16 .375
Hernandez 3-14 .214
Vazquez 1-4 .250
-------------------------------------------------------
Cleveland (Sabathia) +106 Over Kansas City (Anderson)
Sabathia 7-4 with 3.19 Era .248 Average Allowed vs. KC Lifetime.
Sabathia allowed just 2 hits in 7 innings and .095 Average in 1st Start this Season.
Anderson vs. Cleveland 2-0 but only 11 Er's in 18.1 innings 5.40 Era and .265 Average.
Anderson Spring Training: 0-2 6.75 Era (15 Er's/20 innings, 27 hits allowed)
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Colorado(Stark)/Los Angeles (Nomo) Over 7.5 (Would buy 1/2 run to make it 7)
Stark Spring Training 0-2 12.12 Era (22 Er's in 16 innings and 29 hits)
Stark 3-1 3.37 Era Lifetime vs. LA
Nomo
Spring Training 1-4 8.13 Era (25 Er's in 27 innings and 39 hits)
Lifetine Vs. Colorado 8-2 4.57 Era (51 Er's in 100.1 innings)
Nomo 1st Start: 7 Er's in 5.0 innings
Nomo since coming off injury so far:
1-5 9.00 Era with a 16/19 Walk-Stike Ration in 32.0 innings
With Nomo, he needs his control to be effective. His 4.50 Walk per 9.0 innings
shows that he's not in top form. 32 Er's in 32.0 innings would be the other, wa,wa,wa.
Taking the Over 7 (would buy the 1/2 run in this instance)
7.5 is a fairly low number to hang considering how these two starters are pitching.
It is being played in an Under ballpark and LA pen has been tough.
Neither pitcher has been sharp.

Thanks DJ,
Tough loss with Mets, but still going to fade Montreal
against Left-handed pitching.
They'll have a tougher time against good hitting teams,
the Mets haven't been known for great offense in recent
times.

Parlaying:
Houston (Oswalt) 197 Over St.Louis (Marquis)
with San Antonio -165 Over Memphis
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Parlaying:
Cleveland (Sabathia)-154 Over Kansas City (Affeldt)
with
New York Yankees(Mussina)-153 Over Chicago White Soxs (Schoeneweis)
Then going the Over way with
Chicago Whitesoxs (Schoeneweis) +140 Over New York Yankees (Mussina)
If one bets $10 on this Parlay, the profit would be +17.27 If both teams win.
So if Cleveland indeed does win, one would wager the would be profits (+ $17.27)
on Chicago at +140
If Chicago does win, the profit would be +24.17 minus -$10 from Parlay ticket
for an Overall Profit of +14.17 on $10
This would be the conservative way to play this.
.................................................. .................................................. .....................
As a straight Parlay,
Cleveland (Sabathia)-154 Over Kansas City(Affeldt)
with
Chicago WhiteSoxs (Schoeneweis) +140 Over New York Yankees(Mussina)
This Parlay would pay +29.58 Profit on a $10 wager.
The conservative way pays less, but one's intial wager is return if Chicago losses.
The other way, if Chicago loses, one loses $10.
If Cleveland loses, both ways would lose the intial $10 wager.
thanks and good luck,
baz

Would have taken Boston(Martinez)/Cleveland(Sabathia) Under 7.5 but
Cleveland's bullpen has a 6.24 Era and those availible today a 10/63 Era
the last 31.1
Thus making the 7.5 a mite more risky.
Martinez 4-2 Quality Starts
Martinez 10-1 with 1.66 Career vs. Cleveland
Sabathia 4-0 Quality Starts
Sabathia 1-1 with 2.40 Era vs. Boston
Boston hitting .272 the last 8 games (4.5 Runs)
Cleveland .297 with .297 the last 5 games (5.6 Runs)
This should be a classic pitching duel. Have to lean towards Boston
due to edge in Bullpen.

Taking Anahiem(Sele)-169 Over TampaBay (Gonzalez)
Sele 7-1 with 4.43 Era vs. TampaBay
Gonzalez 0-3 with 5.40 Era This Season

As far as Picking Baseball Games Overall: 37-32
Currently Up +46.10 Dollars
-----------------------------------------------------
Was Up + $666.70 Before going on 1-6 SU run (Friday went 0-5 Ouch)
Will post a more detailed account at a later time.
Generally I've found, it's harder to guage true form in the first month of the season.
As the season develops, the statistics start to have more meaning and be more consistent.
Bettors have a better idea of what to expect from hitters and pitchers.
Trends and streaks are more defined and have greater authority.
At this point, top pitchers will start to emerge has well as those struggling.
Will place more emphasis on getting mismatches in terms of Right vs. Left.
Home/Away abilities also start to become clearer.
Totals This Season So Far:
Overs 8-0
Under 3-4
----------
Overall 11-4
Favorites: 20-15
Favorite Runlines: 2-6
Dogs 4-7
Believe that this is an accurate account
so far this season. Will be double checking
later this week.
Still early, have 81% of the Season Left.
Should start to do better.
Time will tell,
thanks,

No Play's Today.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Results of plays and hedge from May 20th:
A Minnesota win would return a +662.80 profit + the 250 wagered on (Atl/Oak/SD-St.L) = 912.80 Total Return.
Minus the -300 Lost on the Early wagers (Chicago,Houston and Boston) resulting in a profit of +362.80
Hedging
600 on Los Angles Lakers -1.5 {-105} would produce this result:
Returns (.952 X 600 = 571.42 in profits + 600 Hedge Wager= 1171.452 Total Return
1171.42 Total Return - 550 Lost from earlier wagers(Chi/Hou/Bos/Atl/Oak/SD-St.Louis) and Laker 600 wager= +21.42 Overall Profit.
A Minnesota win:
Would Return a total of 912.80 - 900 (300 Chi/Hou/Bos wagers} + 600 Laker wager)
912.80 - 900 = +12.80 Profit.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Let's say that I wagered the would be profit's of +662.80 from the early parlay's on the Lakers-1.5(.952)
A Minnesota win:
Returns 912.80 (250 wagerd + 662.80 profits - 912.80 (600 Laker wager + 300 lost (Chi/Hou/Bos) = -0-
{Breaks even}
A Los Angeles Lakers win @ -1.5(.95.23):
Returns the intial wager of 662.80 + 630.98 profit = 1293.78 Total returned
1293.78 - (662.80 + 550 Early Parlays- Chi/Hou/Bos/Atl/Oak/SD-St.Louis) = +80.98
Since I had a strong opinion on Los Angeles, I should have wagered 662.80 instead of the 600.
Overall profit for the day: +21.42

What a day.
Detroit and Baltimore Bullpens give up 7 runs in the 9th to blow the Under.
The run pushing the game Over coming with 2 outs in the bottom of the inning.
Then the next batter ends the game: 7-3 Baltimore (bad luck).
Changed channels in disgust to a game I was actually winning.
Boston enters the top of the 8th up 5-1, Schilling is cruising.
ooophs...6 runs later it's 7-5 Seattle (some more bad luck).
Fortunately, Boston scores 2 to tie it in the bottom of the inning to tie and
McCarthy hits a walk off 2 run homer in the 12 to cover the runline the only way it
could have been covered(good luck).
Luck. Sometimes it better to be lucky than good.
In Baltimore/Detroit 9th and Seattle/Boston 8th:
15 hits and 6 BB's (one IBB) and 15 Er's.
A combined 33.75 Era.
Welcome to the Big Show.
================================================== ===================
Hedging: 35 on Arizona @ +163 (Pinnacle)
Note: Atlanta and Cincinnati NO ACTION
Like my chances with LA.
================================================== ===================
ChicagoWhiteSox's and San Francisco both won. Will hedge off later as the line
appears to be moving higher. Currently -8.5 Los Angeles and +430 on the cashline.
Cashline has jumped from Lakers -410 to -510. Sentiment is strongly in favor of
the Lakers winning game 6.
Lakers 42-7(85.7%) at Home. (+9.9 point margin)
Minnesota Away 29-19 at Away (+1.2 point margin)

Yesterday, I forgot to type in

As always, thanks for your continued support.
GO YANEES !! We knew that the Pinstripes would
go on tear after their early season slump.

Sorry,but that's +640 dollars.
One Unit = +100 dollars.
Hopefully can pick up the pace.
Had some hard luck or we could easily be up twice that.
The early part of the season tends to be tough
because strong tendencies have yet to be established.
Now that we see how things are breaking, we should
do start to do better.
good luck to U,

Thanks DJ,
Detroit play very well in Game 1.
Was shocked by how poorly the Lakers played.
Subtract Shaq's shooting and the rest of the Lakers
went 16 ro 57 (28%) Ouch!!
Detroit did a good job of passing the ball around
and hitting the open shot.
Have to expect this Veteran Laker team to bounce
back strong. Kobe has to have a much better game
and not try to do too much.
Enjoy the game, it should be a good one.

Hey DJ,
Kobe hits a 3 with 2 seconds left to send it into
Overtime. I was screaming at the TV for the Piston's
to foul him before he got a shot off and send him to the line for 2.
That shot may very well have turn this series around.
Instead of being down 0-2, the Lakers get to go into
Detroit tied up. Los Angeles has to like their chances a lot
better now.
Still, it looks like it's going to be a barnburner kind of series.

Then will hedge off on the late game with a lean towards the
Over(despite the good pens)
;)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
There a lot of reasons why I like St.Louis today.
Bong is 0-2 allowing 8 Er's in 9.1 innings. 3 HR's and 13 runs. 7 BB's.
Bong has a 5.60 Era Lifetime.
St.Louis has the hitting advantage Right vs. Left for the season, home away
and the last 10.
Cincinnati 260/256/249
St.Louis...281/306/303
Morris does have 7 Quality starts. He's 7-7 Overall.
St.Louis is 8-2 their last 10.
St.Louis is 6th in Hitting Overall
St.Louis is 4th vs. Lefties
St.Louis is 8-5 vs. Lefties
St.Louis is averaging 9.3 runs and 303 vs. Lefties their last 10.
St.Louis Bull Pen has allowed 7 Er's the last 25.2
Cincinnati is 3-7 their last 10 and 4-9 their last 13.
Cincinnati 10-13 vs. Righties Away
Cincinnati 21st vs. Righies with .259
Cincinnati Bull Pen has allowed 28 Er's the last 26.2
Lean towards the Over 9.5
For one, Cincinnati is on a 11-3 Over Run.
Cincinnati the last 8 games has allowed an average of 9.6 runs.
Bong two games averaged 12.5
Morris games average 10.5 and 12 the last 3.
Have edges across the board(Starter,Hitting,Pen)
If it keeps form shouldn't be close.
Am counting on St.Louis to get to Bong because their tough vs.Lefties
and are facing a struggling bull pen.
Wagering the Over on the thinking that if St.Louis does lose, then it will be
because Cincinnati got to Morris rather than Bong having a great game.
Something that possible, but not that probable considering how well
the Cardinals are hitting Lefties.
Still no game is written in stone. Anything can and does happen.
As yesterday's Oakland/Chicago demonstrated. The Cubs scoring
2 in the bottom of the 9th to defeat Oakland and the Under bettors.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Yesterday after going 1-2 on the first 3 Parlay's, felt confident enough
in San Diego to let the NY Yankee parlay ride. That off set the lose a bit.
In fact, the profit was +38.82 meaning just a -1.18 lost on the first 3 parlays.
Unfortunately, Willis, Radke and Clemens all lost.
All 3 have generally been pitching well.
Since I've been struggling a bit, am playing somewhat close to the vest
and making small wagers til things start to go better.
So even those 3 losses amount to just sligthly Over a 1/2 Unit.
Not too big a hit.
Have only met one person who seem to like to lose or at least didn't seem to mind.
Have yet to meet any that liked losing money.
"You haven't met people til you lose them their money."
Sports betting is a tough gig. Baseball is a streaky affair.
A bettor has to be patient and use good money management to weather bad times.
I always take a wait and see attitude. You just never know what's going to happen
in baseball. But there are strong tendencies and teams, pitchers and hitters
get hot and cold.
This season started out with a large number of inexperience starting catchers.
It seems like a lot of bull pens are blowing leads more often than usual.
Wonder if there's any correlation? Bettors that tend to rely on
Starter matchups primarily may be suffering more losses than usual.
Will just keep plugging away and see how the chips fell when the dust has settled.
good luck today,
baz
:)

DJ,
Thanks, but it wasn't my day.
Will try to Get'em tomorrow.
Going with the Yankees. Like the pitching matchup.
Yanks only have been swept twice all season. 35-2
Maddux has been tough on Milwaukee Lifetime:
1.09 Era in 74.0 innings.
Capuano has been tough on Cubs (3 Er's 12.1 innings)
Kind of a coin flip, edge to Maddux.
The (NFL)Minn/Atl odds looked out of line in terms of stats.
Not doubt will hedge if Yankees win.
GO YANKS!!

Hedge from Thursday's Action:
150 on Atlanta-1 Over Minnesota
Generally, most baseball wagers should be with "Listed Pitchers", expect in the time of a
Time Hedge. The later games shouldn't be listed Pitchers, because the ticket needs to
able to hedge off on. If they change pitchers, then it's considered "No Action" and in today's case,
the early games split. With "No Action" there would be a -$10.29 loss. However, by not "Listing"
Pitchers, the games are automaticaly parlayed to whomever happens to be pitching.
For better or worse Odds and or Pitchers.
(1) St.Louis/Pittsburgh Over {LOSS} -25.00
(2) St.Louis(Haren) -170 Over Pittsburgh(Fogg) {WON}
with
Seattle(Villone)/Detroit(Robertson) Over 8.5{-116}
The second parlay would win +$48.93 if Seattle wins, for a total return of $73.93
The line as moved from it's Open @ -116 Over 8.5 to -120 Under 9.
Would Hedge 1/4 Unit:
Seattle(Villone)/Detroit(Robertson) Under 9{-120)

(5) Oakland(Redman)/TampaBay(Brazelton) Under 9.5{-129}
3/10 Unit:
(6) Florida(Pavano)-125 Over San Diego(Hitchcock)
Will no doubt be hedging at some point during the day.
At least 1 Hour Prior to Boston/Chicago WhiteSox's game.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Comments:
Boston is hitting .325 the last 10 and Chicago .245
Lowe hasn't pitched well away and Gacia hasn't done well at night.
Yankees are tough to sweep, but Angels have realistic chance of doing so.
Small wager on Brown to have a good outing to prevent the sweep.
Hitchcock is just off the DL and hasn't pitched all that well(12 Er's in 17.1 innings)
Pavano beat SD 3-1 earlier in the year and has 7 Quality Starts his last 10.
St.Louis defeated Vogelsong 8-1 and 6-3 so far this season.
St.Louis hitting .295 vs. Righties the Last 10, compared to Pittsburgh's .237

beancounter,
Stategy: Divide Bankroll by 40 KEY to sportsbetting.
Allows one to weather the ups and downs.
Much of my betting stategy is based on using what I call a "Time Hedge".
One knows the results of the early games on their parlay tickets.
These in most instances are not straight parlays, but parlays in which
one hedges their risk.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Expample:
For 1 Unit:
(MLB)Philaldephia-3 [-140] Over Portland
with
(NFL) New York-3[-110] Over Seattle
The Philadelphia/Portland game being played Sunday.
The New York/Seattle game is being played Monday.
Now let's suppose that Philadelphia wins the first leg of the parlay.
Then if New York wins, that parlay will bring back $327.27(100 bet + $227.27 profit)
Now if New York loses, one loses $100.
Using a time hedge, one could wager $110 on Seattle and be left with this situation.
(a) If Seattle wins, then one would get back $210 ($110 Original bet + 100 profit)
and thus the bets cancel each other out. One breaks even at -0-.
or
(b) NY wins, and one gets back $327.27($100 bet + $227.27 profit)
Minus -$110 bet on the Seattle ticket for a profit of $ 117.27
So once you've won the first game, you basically either break even
or you make a profit. With a straight Parlay, you either make $227.27
or lose 100.
With the Time Hedge, you either make +$117.27 or -0, but get your money back.
It's like NO ACTION.
In both situations, one would lose $100 if Philadelphia lost the Early game.
It's a question of how much risk one is willing to accept.
That's all Hedging is really doing, managing ones risk.
The Hedger is accepting less reward for greater safety.
Those that do not Hedge are letting it ride. For them, it's feast or famine.
Does one prefer to play it close to the vest or let it fly?
Personally, I tend to play more conservatively and wager smaller Units,
when struggling and am more likely to let it fly a bit more when on a good streak.
Lately, I've been wagering more games with strong opinions and less on
ones not as strong.
Stong opinion would be from 3/4 Unit to 1 Unit.
Games which I'm not as confident in would be 1/5 Unit to 1/20 Unit.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now using the first example again, let's suppose that the line on Seattle went
from +3 to +3.5 and NY wins by a field goal.
In this situation, one would win on the both tickets.
THe PHil/NY Ticket:
The NY game would be on a push and a win on the Philadlephia game.
For a profit of $ 77.14
The Seattle +3.5 Hedge Ticket for $110 @ -110 would result in a profit of
+100
For a Overall Profit of $177.14
This is the situation which I'm trying to set up with the Philadelphia/Minnesota
game next Monday. It should be a competitive game as the line indicates, and
there's a reasonable chance that game could end with a Philadelphia Field Goal.
The line as already become available at -3.5 and even -4.
There are other ticks which one can use. Such as boxing games with their
"Early Game" along with the "Time Hedge".
What I generally try to do is Bet the Favorite in "TIME HEDGE" and
Hedge off on the "DOG". This is because the line tends to move
in favor of the DOG as the Public money pushes the lines up.
One can get a better price.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Looking at today's action. Unfortunately, I misplayed this hand.
I thought that the Florida game was later. Looked at
the wrong time.
:)
Wager Amount:
$........(Ticket)..........................Would Be Profit.
20....(1)NYY(-1.5)-170/Fla-210/Phil-110........$69.51 {WON}
20....(2)KC+220/FLA-210/Phil-110..............$160.36 {LOST}
20....(3)NYY Over 10.5{-120}/Phil-110..........$83.33 {LOST}
25.....(4)Atl-150/Phil(-3)-110..................$54.54 {WON 1st Game}
The problem here is that I wasn't able to Hedge Off because
the games(NY/FLA) were being played at the same time. Thus the tickets
became straight parlay's. Which most so called "wiseguys"
frown upon due to the %'s are against the player.
The one thing about my "Time Hedge" is that it allows me
to avoid laying -250 and such.
Let's look at a Lage Favorite in a Hedge:
1 Unit:
NY-250 Over Arizona
with
Philadelphia {-3}-110 Over Seattle
100= +167.27 Profit if Philadelphia Wins.
Time Hege on Seattle for $110
If Philadelphia wins, returns a profit of +$57.72
A Straight wager on NY -250 would bring back
a profit of +100 but one has to risk $250
for a return of basically 40%
My time hedge brings back a return of 57.7% or breaks even.
However, I'm only risking 100 compared to 250.
I'm really swamp this week with College Football, NFL and MLB all
going on at once. I'll try to answer any questions you have and
explore this subject further.
I'll even try to have the math with the picks when time permits.
best of luck in your wagering,
baz
:)

baz,
that makes total sense and I love the theory. I will always hedge when given the opportunity (ie-I had 4-1 odds that Uconn would win the NCAA championship so in the last game played GT with the points for half my potential winnings so that I had the potential to win both bets, but at worst, will was up).
my question is this: you said divide your bankroll by 40. let's say you start with $4000. divide by 40 and you get $100. is that $100 considered a "unit" and when you say 1/5, 1/10 of a unit it is 1/5 or 1/10 of $100?
the other thing I didn't know is that if you win one game of a parlay and push the other, you still win. I thought the whole bet was no action, but that is good to know. (your example below)
"Now using the first example again, let's suppose that the line on Seattle went
from +3 to +3.5 and NY wins by a field goal.
In this situation, one would win on the both tickets.
THe PHil/NY Ticket:
The NY game would be on a push and a win on the Philadlephia game.
For a profit of $ 77.14"
also, to make sure I understand, you like to bet the favorite in the first game, and hedge on the dog (b/c your ability to win both bets increases if the line moves in favor of the dog)...is that right?
how is it going for you so far?
thanks for your time with this, I am sure you are swamped...I have some friends that live or went to high school in lake oswego, I went to UW so there are a lot of portland folks that head up to seattle....love that area.

Comments on the Boston RedSox's vs. NY Yankees(Mussina) Game
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mussina has only allowed 3 Er's his last 23.0 innings(.200 averaged allowed)
Mussina 7-2 at Home
Mussina careerwise is better during the day, than at night.
Mussina tough against Lefties. .238 Averaged Allowed.
Martinez is only 10-8 Career vs. Yankees.
55 Er's in 176.2 innings for a 2.80 Era Lifetime vs. Yankees
WHIP Last 3 Starts:
Martinez 0.95
Mussina 0.65
very tough.
Yankees come into this game hitting .326 vs. Righties their last 10.
The Yankee bull pen has allowed 27 Er's their last 28.0
These two facts make the Under less appealing.
Looking for a classic pitching duel.
Mussina current form definately makes him capable of winning, especially
with the Yankees bats behind him.
Speculating that the game will be close going into the later innings.
Which given the Yankee bull recent pen woes, would tip the scale in the RedSox's favor.
Martinez over the course of the season has been the more consistent starter.
So leaning towards Mussina cracking first.
Taking Boston for a small play. Still, it's anyone's game.
The Yankees are tough as Underdogs.
Should be a better game than yesterday. :)
good luck everyone,

beancounter,
Sorry for not getting back sooner. Been dealing with Internet connection problems
and pouting Starting Pitchers. Although, on this occasion it was understandable
as the ball barely sneak over the left field corner fence to put the ball game
beyond reasonable reach.
Sometimes, the way I hedge and parlay games can get a little complicated.
Have managed to shoot myself in the foot on more than one occasion. Then yours
truly is the one pouting. Wondering what happened.
Questions
I thought that if Seattle was +3 and NY was -3,
and if the game ended 30-27 NY, it would be a push for both teams.
The +3.5 for Seattle would win.
I may be mistaken and it may be that NY loses at -3
and then Seattle wins.
As far as 2 team parlay where one game is pushed, some Sportsbooks
pay this out as a single wager on the first game. Some Sportsbooks
do not. House Rules. Better to use a Sportsbooks which allows
the parlay.
On 2 team teasers, however there is NO ACTION when one team
doesn't play.
It's like Double or Single ZERO in Roulette.
You should not play Roulette where the Single is not offered.
It's in your odds to do so.
To answer your question about the bankroll.
The Bankroll is 4000 which is divided by 40
1 Unit= $100
3/4 Unit= $75
1/2 Unit= $50
1/4 Unit= $25
1/5 Unit= $20
1/10 Unit= $10
The general rule by some professional gamblers is that each bet should be
in the 2% to 2.5% range.
That's why I divide my bankroll. Doubtful that one is going to lose 40 picks in
a roll, but one can get down 40 units and lose the bankroll.
Some betting tips I try to adhere to from Nick The Greek:
"Self discipline is a gamblers greatest weapon"
"An intelligent man gambles because this is a means of surrendering himself and
his fortunes to the fates before testing wits and nerve. He does this, because
it improves the flavor of living.
Unless he can do this happily, and with grace, he is a loser whether he leaves
the game a richer man or poorer.
================================================== ========================
Here's some advise which is applicable to Sports Betting:
MAXIM Found At www.turfpedia.com
THE PURPOSE OF HANDICAPPING IS TO PICK WINNERS THAT PAY A FAIR TO GENEROUS PRICE
Handicappers accomplish that by estimating what the fair odds should be on the horses
in the field. In other words, by setting a fair-value betting line, the critical skill
at the races.
What's the best bet at the racetrack?
The question is asked routinely and the answer is always the same. Every day, every week
at every track the best bet is a horse having a good chance to win at a good price.
By betting on those horses persistently handicappers begin their walk to the winner's
circle.
A less attractive bet is a horse having a good chance to win at a poor price.
This is the mistake good handicappers make too often and the main reason so many talented
handicappers lose.
And the least attractive bet at the races is a horse having a poor chance to win at a good
price. Too many of these horses lose, creating long losing streaks. The occasional winners
may compensate for the losses much of the time, but the winners will be too few and far
between to contribute to meaningful profits

What I try to do is wait a few games before entering the fry.
when the various teams abilities are clearer. Bets can be make with
more confidence vs. guessing as to abilities.
"Let the Market tell you what's hot or not."
As they say on Wall Street
"lose your opinion, not your money".
Initially, I play somewhat conservatively with straight bets and time hedges until in positive
territory. Trying to build up the bankroll to the point where one can start to wager
even larger Units. Take some greater risks. But until then, it's to close to the vest.
Once you get up 30 Units or 20 Units, Then you can maybe lay 5 or 10 Units on
a Time Hedge into a very strong play. Some handicappers divided the season into
3 parts. The early, mid and late. The thinking is that form hold best during the
mid season. Early, both handicappers and linemakers have more difficulty getting a
good read since it is early. By mid season, team's trends are much more apparent.
Late in the season, some teams have packed it in and rest starters or look at new talent.
I've found that after the early call up of the minor leaguers players when they extend the rosters,
that form flounders a bit. It's just tougher going. I try to key into teams in the wild card hunt.
Often teams just knocked out of the race tank.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Example of a Two Team Parlay for 1/2 Unit, ($50.00)
50 (-110 + -120)
50 {+ 45.45} > 95.45 {+79.54} = 174.99
Subtract Initial Wager of 50 from 174.99
If this ticket wins, then it will show a profit of 124.99
The Second game the Hedge would be +110 (using a 10 centline)
At +110 one would wager 45.45 @ + 1.10)
So one either wins +79.54 or Break Even.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Let's say that you like the Dog in the example above.
You could simply go the other way.
It would work out like this:
50 {+ 45.45} > 95.45 {+79.54}= 174.99
Now you would Hedge your would be profits of 124.99 @ +110 going the other way.
You want the first ticket to lose.
A win would bring back a profit of +137.48 Minus the 50 Initially bet.
So after winning the first game, you either:
(a) You break even.
or
(b) + 87.48
I'm giving up a profit of 37.51 for the safety of the Either/OR Hedge.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Going to reverse the order of the ticket:
50 (-110 + +110)
50 (+45.45) > 95.45 (+104.99) = 200.44 -50 = 150.44 Profit if it wins.
If this ticket wins, you will have a profit of 150.44
But you like the Favorite in the second game.
So you would wager the 150.44 the other way @ -120
150.44 X .833 (-120) = 125.36 Profit Minus 50 lost on the initial wager.
You either
(a) Break even
or
(b) + 125.36

DJ,
Those Yankees are too tough.
Pedro may have gotten a little too big for his britches.
This grudge rivilary has gotten a little personal.
It's never good idea to tick off your opponent.
Then they play twice as hard as before.
Even as good as Pedro is, it's a tall task to get
through that line uo. With so many good hitters,
it leaves little room for error. You have to make
good pitch after good pitch or else!
You know what they say, "if you can't beat them, join them."
So going with the Yankees against Toronto today.
good luck this week,

Middle.

Under 17-8 and 7-3 Under the last 9 (Mussina vs. Boston).
Martinez vs. New York Yankees:
10-9 with 3.12 Era and .204 Averaged Allowed.
Martinez enters game with 20-6 Quality Start record vs. Yankees
Under 16-9 vs. Yankees
Martinez losses to Yankees have gone Under 10-5
----------------------------------------------------------------
We'll see if the Boston can return the favor at Home vs. the Yankees.
Suspect that Martinez will be in top form. Pedro vs. NY has gotten personal.
Mussina has been throwing very well his last 4 starts and has a good record
against Boston hitters.
Odds against New York scoring 8 against Martinez again.
Boston needs to shake off getting routed last time vs. NY and make a good showing.
Psychologically, it's important going into the Play Offs.
good luck today,
