don't really know Departed for Best Picture. What conference are they in. I can't seem to find them in the top50 RPI teams. I did hear they have a guy that can shoot 3's like no one's business. Do you think Departed for best picture will get a tourney bid?

Was I the only not impressed with "The Departed"? I mean, it was good, but I didn't think it was some great movie that had me on the edge of my seat. I don't know...

I would take "Little Miss Sunshine" because it seems to be the Oscar type darling movie of the year... (haven't seen it tough, not that it matters if any of us have seen these movie anyway since a handful of snotty, pompous egomaniacs pick the winners anyway).

The Academy never wants to give Scorcese any credit, so The Departed may be one to avoid at those odds

I'd lay some money on The Queen

Also, does anyone remember what the odds were on Whitaker winning Best Actor at the Golden Globes? I could have sworn it was at least +1500!

Whitaker was the favorite at the Globes and is a huge favorite now, just like Helen Mirren is/was. Theer is no way either of them lose (Mirren is like -3600 and Whitaker is like -700).

I agree, and was coming in to say that exact thing. I liked it and all, and Nicholson was cool....but people were putting it in the same class as Goodfellas and The Godfather, and it is not near as good as those classics...

Mirren and Whitaker get it for sure...

I think Departed and Babel are neck and neck.

"The Departed" is a remake of a Chinese movie from only 2002 called "Infernal Affair". I've heard it's basically almost scene for scene, and in fact, the Chinese movie is far better (especially the ending). It's amazing Scorcese can get away with doing a remake only 4-5 years after the original was made, isn't it? I think the esteemed Academy will hold that against the movie and either "Babel" or "Little Miss Sunshine" will win.

Has a remake ever won the Best Picture Award? I personally think it shouldn't even be allowed to win since it's a ripoff of another guy's movie, whether the original maker acquiesced to it or not.... Just my opinion though.

The Departed now at 1-2 on sportsbook.

My pick (and yes I can't believe I'm posting and betting on this stupid thing):

Little Miss Sunshine 3-1
Half Unit

I haven't seen the movie but I work with this movie freak who is sure that movie is going to win (great capping, huh?) As for the The Departed, I really enjoyed it. It reminded me of Goodfellas and I never wanted it to end. No it wasn't as good as Goodfellas of course.

Departed.....Departed......hmmmm..........didn't that star Underdog88, BoilerBacker, Stifler's Mom, Yomonte, Horfin and FlyersFan among an all star cast? I believe if it is the one i am thinking of, it was directed my MeesterMike and Larry4498. Truly a classic about a bunch of guys who left and didn't come back.

You left out the slime. There was definitely a sub-plot about some slime in there.

Sorry, had to come back for 1 more.

He left out ALL the 'Best Supporting Actors' who know where their loyalties lie.
