Zvonareva won 6-4, 6-1!!!!

Should be a great match tonight between Stosur and Safina. Stosur definitely has home-court advantage and has performed well her in the past, reaching the finals in '05 and the semis in '04. Safina has beaten Stosur in both of their prior encounters, the first a 46 76(5) 64 nail-biter at Moscow in 2005 and the second a 63 62 rout at Indian Wells last year. Both ladies are playing well this week, although Stosur has played a little lesser competition. Safina has nine breaks in two matches and has been returning well, winning 57% on opponents second serve.

Safina -147 over Stosur

A little nervous as this line is going down.

Rough start to the women's side. Vesnina's serve was just awful today.

Vesnina lost 5-7, 2-6
Jankovic won 6-3, 6-4!!!!
Safina won 7-6, 6-3!!!!

Gold Coast & Auckland: 2-2 (-38.6 units)

WTA WTD: 1-0 (+.68 UNITS)

Corey ...any word on Safina and a possible injury?? She is one of the most consistent women on tour yet has been undervalued (IMO) all week long. She is -165 against Peer, whom she has dominated in two lifetime matches. She has beaten her 6-2, 6-1 and 6-2, 6-0. My only thought on this is because Safina is still alive in doubles, maybe fatigue is a factor, but considering her last match was Oct. 15th I do not see why that would matter much. Unless I hear anything back from Corey regarding an injury this looks to be a big play for me.

Safina -165 over Peer

Risking 8.25 units to win 5.00

from wtator.com

The most impressive comeback victory of the new year came during the feature night semifinal, as No.2 seed Safina beat No.5 seed Shahar Peer, 46 76(1) 61. It was a match of two halves; Peer won the first set and stormed out to a 5-1 lead in the second, only to have her momentum halted one game later (after Safina held for 5-2) by a freak rainstorm that blew through the stadium then stopped play for five minutes as the court was dried. The match turned upon resumption and after two hours and 15 minutes, it was the Russian who prevailed.

"She was playing like No.1, I couldn’t believe it," Safina said. "Then, she had 64 51 and I just started going for my shots. I held serve then we had the rain break. I saw her and she seemed to be a little nervous, and I thought, this is it, I have to go for it. I suppose I was a little lucky, but my shots just started going in."

"I'm not happy; you can't be up 64 51, lose a match and be happy," Peer stated. "I didn't feel differently after the rain, but until 51 I was not missing anything and then I started missing. Maybe I lost concentration. I'll make sure I'm in this position again, I take advantage and close it out on my first service game."
