I am thinking Hawaii -8 is a top pick for all the upcoming games. What does everyone else think?

I love Hawaii -8 in this game, I really think they will blow Arizona St. out by at least 2 td's probably more. This game will probably be my biggest play of the bowl season.

Curious to know why you think so? Sagarin ratings http://www.usatoday.com/sports/sagarin/fbt06.htm has Arizona St at #27 and Hawaii at #28.

My thinking is its in Hawaii,
AZ st is 7-5
Hawaii is 10-3

on Yahoo AZ st is not even ranked

Hawaii tends to have big scoring games so -8 is not that much to cover when the score get up to 42 - 28

I am actually leaning towards Arizona St.

A couple reasons:

1. Hawaii's last two home games were against a struggling Purdue team (Haw won by 7) and against Oregon St (OSU by 7). This was a big step-up in competition and Hawaii showed they can play with these guys, but it was not going to be easy. I think ASU hangs with these guys because they will run the ball alot.

2. The Dirk factor. Dirk Koetter is gone after this game and has said he is going to play this with nothing to lose. I expect ASU to play very loose since they know they are not playing for Dirk's job. Plus, the returning players want to show Dennis Erickson what they are made of.

GL to all, one thing I've learned is that Vegas is very good at placing odds and most of the time its anyones guess who will win.

The last time I KNEW vegas was wrong was stanford vs oregon and the spread was Oregon -14

I put my whole budget on that game.

This will be my biggest play i will buy 1.5 pts and place 4k on it. Hawaii is damn good and at home. Brenan needs to show he is NFL material.

Yeah, that's the way I think too. Vegas is usually right, but we have the advantage of choosing which particular game to bet on. I believe in putting big money on few games, rather smaller bits on many games.

Fade Hawaii.

1. Bowl dogs of 7 or more are money prior to New Years Day.

2. Purdue could have won that game and Oregon State handled Hawaii. Both played Haw the week after big wins vs. instate rivals. Purdue had no bye weeks all year and it was the 13th game for them. Haw defense was not so good in either game.

The WAC is terrible. I also think Boise gets a big L.

I think Haw wins but by less than 7. Strong home field advantage.

GL  oREGON HANDLED hAWAII? uhhh oregon score on a 80 yrd bomb and a 100yrd kick return and also had a 61 yr bomb completed ..take away those 3 plays and hawaii wins by 3 scores. Hawaii will win by 17

Oregon State averaged 7.3 yards per play and that included taking a 30 yard loss for an intentional safety. Otherwise they would have averaged over 8 yds per play. Hawaii not only gave up big plays but were sacked 6 times for 44 yards in losses.

30 offensive points on no punts. Terrible efficiency. Oregon State was up by 11 in the 4th and screwed up a punt which gave Haw a short field. That was the only TD they scored in the second half.

Purdue blew the game but covered easily. OSU won the game and I believe odds are ASU will cover. I have been saying the same stuff now for about 3 weeks. The WAC is terrible. Hawaii beat up a bunch of crappy teams. (ASU trounced Nevada early in the year)

I heard the same old arguments about how Brennan was going to tee off vs. the BCS schools. He had no TDs vs a mediocre to bad Purdue defense until the 4th and did diddly in the second half vs. OSU until the end of the game. That being said, I do like Brennan...he is accurate.

I gotta stand up for Hawaii in this one, although do remember that i'm a homer. I went to all the UH home games, so i know when we blow good chances. We blew the Oregon St. game more than they won it. Oregon St. definitely did not manhandle UH. A dropped pass inside OSU's 5 yd line to convert a first down, and 2 missed FG's before OSU even got a decent drive together really hurt. Then add on top of that two UH TD's that were dropped (the WR's were in the endzone) took away 14 more points. Well, maybe 12 pts with how exciting we make Xtra points. Then blown kickoff coverage that OSU takes 100 yds to the house, and a 80yd pass play which really was a nice pass and catch by OSU. Then on top of all that, inside OSU's 10 yd line, Brennan throws a pass that's a sure TD to Bess, who slips making his cut and gets picked off in the endzone. Don't tell me about OSU screwing themselves on one punt late in the game for UH to make it close. Watch the game again and you'll see what I mean. Bad efficiency, yes. Manhandled, no. Do not forget this is the same OSU team that did manhandle USC, a near NC contender. I'm proud of how we played, but to everyone else it's never good enough. Drop 60+ points a game, we play weak competition. Beat Purdue and push OSU to the limit, it's "Purdue is struggling/off year" or "see they can't beat a BCS school".

I say the Hawaii Bowl is our real coming out party. I will also say that the ASU TE will kill us, as we have no idea how to cover TE's. Purdue and OSU exploited that against us, and i expect ASU to do the same. But the deciding factor is our many offensive weapons. Play for the coach, next coach or whatever, that means nothing. If you can't get up just for the plain fact of winning a bowl game to call it a successful season, then nothing else will motivate you. If you wanna count that, then count UH motivated to go out with a W on national TV to kick start the 2007 season with a Heisman candidate and possible top 25 ranking. I think UH will win by 14, but i will not be surprised if we win by twice that.

UH -7 :yeah:
