GL Joepa!

Might tail you on that "International Bowl" play. Think it will be a good game? Haven't decided if I am going to go down and see the game. Not exactly a marquee matchup with the 5th place Big East playing the 3rd place MAC. We'll see...it's not getting much play up here, that's for sure.

Although it IS a Michigan team playing an Ohio team (just the wrong two!).

Enjoy the season, bro

GL, Joe....just wondering what your reasoning is on the ND selection. ND couldn't stay within 20 of UM and USC....LSU seems to have similar, if not more, athleticism than both of those teams.

Interested in your perspective before I start putting cash down on LSU.

Thanks.

Hey JoePa.....was wondering if your thoughts have changed on the UC/WMU game now that Kelly has been announced to coach in that game. He did gameplan a whuppin' of WMU earlier this year. I have a hard time believing that CMU's talent is better than UC's. Course, they don't have to win..only cover.

At any rate, does it affect your rationale on this game...the coaching change is an odd twist...wonder if its ever happened before....a coach wins against a school and then faces that same school later in the year coaching a different school....hmmmm....

:beer2:

joepa66
12-07-2006, 12:03 PM
Nigel....coaching changes do affect my rationale and I am rethinking that play...lot's of times coaches simply add a new wrinkle but don't disrupt the team's continuity for just a bowl game. So I don't think most implement all new strategies.....CMU is promoted one of Kelly's assistants so that doesn't change much there...but this WMU thing is a little different now, even though they played much better football as getting their arses handed to them by CMU....so I am really closely looking at the play since it is a "long time" from now, but WMU will also have time to combat anything (stunting, etc.) that Kelly did at CMU, you can bet both are just pouring over those films....

As far as the ND selection.....ND is a gut play....they'll be playing for Brady after he finishes 2nd in the Heisman balloting to Troy Smith....so he'll definitely want to raise his stock......that play may change too....still doing some capping, but I think they can keep it under 10....

I got a nice laugh when i saw you weren't going to Glendale anymore. 30K tickets...try more like 15,000 tickets. The place only holds 75K people and most of those tickets go to Corporate mucky mucks, people who belong/are members of the actual bowl game (no matter who is playing) etc.......one of these days you are going to have to actually show up to something. Suck it up and buy a ticket....

TCU -11.5 vs. Northern Illinois WINNA

Really thinking this game will be a blowout......as much as I like the MAC it seems the Huskies are definitely outmatched in this one. TCU scoring D is ranked 6th at 12.75ppg, rush D only allows 67.58ypg with is 4th, yards per rush is 2.4 which is 4th...and those numbers come from stifling running teams like Air Force (98 yards rushing)....they allow 181.92ypg passing, but will bring the pressure with 2.1TOs per game and control NIUs passing game just as Iowa and Central Michigan did.......The TCU O is underrated as well, and average 28.58ppg, 194ypg rushing, 210ypg passing on 60% completions, while the NIU pass D is ranked 104th giving up 241.5ypg. Garret Wolfe may have some real trouble finding yards and breaking the big one against the Frogs D and I don't think NIU will be able to stop that Poinsettia Bowl train once it leaves the station. Could be one of those 42-3 games.....

Thanks guys.....first chicken dinner of the bowl season....
:yeah:

Duke 79 Kent 72.....the refs took over at the end of the game and really took the Flashes out of it sending the Devils to the foul line and not calling anything on the opposite end! They played well, but there is no consolation in a loss....I had great seats at midcourt 8 rows from the court and if Kent plays the way they did against Duke in their MAC games they will scorch the conference.....by the way, Duke needs a point guard badly and Pawlus should have gone to ND to be a QB....

joepa66

OREGON +3.5 vs. BYU LOOZA
Not a popular pick on the board as I have backed the Cougars all season long, even going to the point of saying at one point that "all the BCS reps think that BSU - Boise State University is the best non BCS team in the land but that the honor really belonged to the BYU Cougars!"
Today, however, I am going against my usual capping strategies and bucking the trend to back the Pac-10. The Ducks can keep up and will get down field on the Cougars. O outgained their arch-rival in the Civil War although they lost 30-28, puked against Zona with -6 turnovers the week before their epic matchup with the Beavers, but won the stats in their game with USC and disintegrated in the red zone, and held UW to just 138 total yards. The Ducks were a team that most picked to contend for the conference title. So why am I taking them? Mike Belotti....he WILL NOT allow his Ducks to roll over, they died alreay and are ready to be resurrected vs. the Mormons. Their pass D is one of the best yeilding 153.6ypg and their passing O is much underrated throwing for 247ypg against the BYU pass D that gives up 208ypg thru the air, O also average 2.5 sacks per game for an average of 17ypds in losses and create 1.7TOs per game....NOT that I don't like BYU, but I think the Ducks are battle tested vs. better teams. BYU never faced a Top 10 team while O was 0-2 vs. Top 10s, and BYU was 0-1 vs. Top 30 teams while O was 3-3 vs. Top 30 competition, even though the Cougars rank 21st in Strength of Schedule at 83.48 and O ranks 22nd at 83.38. It should be a great game with plenty of scoring...but I'm not sure about the total!

RICE -3.5 vs. Troy
Simply backing the hotter team from the better conference.....This Owls team without a doubt the "best Owls" team in country.....now that's a hell of an accomplishment. Rice-a-roni finished the season 5-0SU and 5-0ATS, and when the heck is the last time a Rice team finished with 8 wins on the season?! The time is right to back a team that was 1-10 last year, has just its 4th winning season since 1993, and are playing in their first bowl game in 45 years....the last in 1961, with their last bowl win coming in 1954 with a win over Bama....and they have Jarett Dillard....LOOK OUT Trojans!

CENTRAL MICHIGAN -9 vs. Middle Tennessee Jed State (stole that from Dead Garcia)
Simply backing the MAC Champions who ended on roll with a 31-10 rout of OU in the MAC Championship game. CMU had 7 Academic All-Americans including QB Dan LeFevour (3.68 GPA) who was 2nd in pass efficiency, and 1st in total yards....because he's threat whenenver he has the ball. LeFevour ran for 645 yards and threw for 2869 yards on 231-362 (64%) with 25 TDs and just 9 INTs...and he's got 4 receivers with over 500 yards in receptions on the year. They're not going to let their cinderella season be spoiled just because their head coach left for Cincinnati...they still have continuity on their staff with one of Brian Kelly's staff being promoted to the top position. And, don't forget about Ontario Sneed who ran for 779 yards. The Chipps were 2nd in passing O in the MAC, 2nd in turnover margin with just .25 per game, 4th in total D, 2nd in total O, and don't forget about 2nd in third down efficiency. A hungry team still looking to seal the deal and playing before a partisan crowd in their home state much like BYU did lastnight vs. Oregon.

joepa66
12-22-2006, 02:58 PM
Chase my boy is still listed as questionable....but I'm still backing my original pick that I posted the first week of December when the lines came out.....the backup who played the last two games and guided them got the job done....he won 2 games at the end of the year so it's not like they have no experience back there....think it's Armstrong, his name that is!

Congrats to the Gators....their lines controlled both sides of the ball! They over ran the Buckeyes O-Line and kept OSU away from Leak so he could have time to throw the ball. They clearly outmanned the Buckeyes last night.....at least Urban is an o-HI-o boy from Ashtabula.....

And the media should quit bashing Troy Smith this morning....it's not his fault that he got sacked 5 times and didn't have time to throw let alone run.....they are all saying how he got outplayed by Chris Leak.....if you put him behind the UF line last night and Leak behind OSU's line you still have the same outcome!
