Know you haven't been around in a while man but I just wanna know ur thoughts on mauresmo and hingis.

I was gonna take Hingis yesterday, but I didn't have a bank roll to do it.

You think that sore shoulder is gonna hinder Mauresmo?
Or do you think fatigue is starting to set in for Hingis?

Tough match man. I haven't bet anything in the WTA since the 1st day of the championships. I took JHH and Sharapova that day and I since I haven't been able to find anything to bet. These matches are so tough to predict. Tough line and match overall. Slight lean to Hingis but I can't say with alot of confidence that she'd win.

apparently mauresmo has won a lot of the past meetings, including some when Hingis was in her prime.

mauresmo is now -120. Might add the rest of my account on hingis at +100. thats a good line.

Chucky, do u have any experience with these types of line moves?

Her shoulder is the real question. She mentioned not being able to serve "100 per cent" so you are betting that she can overcome rust and a major element of anyone's game. GL.:gulp:

well its a bad shoulder vs. fatigue in Hingis's case. I'll take the opposite side of the public as Mauresmo's line has become inflated over the past few hours.

what bad shoulder? Mauresmo already has 2 aces in her first service game, and has had Hingis down in both her serve games.

was what had kept her out of the past few matches. She indicated it was more rust than lingering injury problems in comments following getting shellacked by Petrova....

"“There's nothing to say about that match except it could be worse in the next couple of matches,” said Mauresmo, who played her first match since injuring her right shoulder last month. “It's hard to say anything positive about a match like that. I speak better Spanish than I played today.”

Mauresmo withdrew from the Zurich Open because of the shoulder injury.

“There was no pain in my shoulder – I just feel a little behind the play and I made stupid mistakes,” Mauresmo said. “It's the kind of match I would play after missing competitions.”

is kicking Hingis' ass, I'd say the shoulder is doing quite well, and the rust may be off as well. :gulp:

crappy way to tease me too. Shes down like 5-1, then she gets back to 5-4 and has break point on mauresmo's serve, then she blows it.

Chucky. Hardenne tomorrow? Mauresmo owes me some money here.

I'm reading that Hardenne apparently has nothing to play for anymore? Are her and sharapova already guaranteed to be in the finals?

It would be true to say she has nothing to play for...if I read this right JHH gets to be numero uno with a W over Momo. But Mauresmo has motivation as well...seems like a serious toss up to me, unless I misread this:

"If Henin-Hardenne can win her semi then she will end the season as world number one.

But the Belgian insists that grabbing the top spot in the world, which she first occupied in 2003, would not alter her campaign here.

"I enjoy being on the court but I will play the semi-finals with the goal of going to the final, not to be number one," added Henin-Hardenne, who is playing her first tournament since the US Open.

"It will be tough for sure, but I don't even want to look to far. Being back on the court and winning my games is the most important thing for me.

"I missed tennis a lot, and I wasn't sure that I could come. There were lots of doubts, I had a hard time."

Mauresmo, who has occupied the world number one spot for 34 weeks, defeated twice former champion Hingis in an evening battle of day-one losers.

The win left Mauresmo with a chance of reaching the last four - if she can defeat Henin-Hardenne on Friday."

This isn't the semifinal though. This is JHH's last group play match.

So yeah, this match doesn't mean anything to JHH I don't think.

Technically, it does not mean anything. But if Mauresmo were able to defeat her she would earn a spot in the semis as well. If she were to win in straight sets, Amelie would even take the first seed away from JHH based on sets won and the H2H tiebreaker. Amelie has a lot of motivation as well, for if she were to lose she would finish last in the group.

I imagine it is important for JHH to finish first as a berth in the final (win or lose) guarantees her the No. 1 spot in the world, and she would probably like to avoid playing Sharapova in that spot, who would have similar motivation. In the semis, the #1's play the #2's.

Thanks for the clarification. I hate round robin events, and hate the idea that there is a big push for more of them (at least on the men's side)...counting the number of sets needed, etc etc..sheesh...:bang:

wowww people have been hammering Hardenne. I picked up the line late last night at -165. It is now -200, which allows me a full buyback of this bet at +170 if I choose.

well i did this with xavier malisse and only recouped some of the losses, but since I bet On Mauresmo against Petrova and Lost, Against Mauresmo against Hingis and lost, I will bet against Mauresmo one last time. Let it ride.

Still have Mauresmo pending at +701 to win the tournament. I am tempted to let it ride, but here is my analysis of the match anyway.

Amelie leads Justine 6-5 in career matches:, but their preliminary match on Friday could have gone either way.

Regardless of who wins the tourney, the WTA Singles Rankings on Monday, and for the rest of the year, will show Justine Henin-Hardenne # 1, Maria Sharapova # 2, and Amelie Mauresmo # 3.

Amelie Mauresmo is 23-19 in previous WTA singles finals, and won the titles this year at Wimbledon, the Australian Open, Antwerp, and the Paris indoor tourney.

5-time Grand Slam tourney champion Justine Henin-Hardenne is 28-15 in previous WTA singles finals, and won the titles this year at the French Open, New Haven, Eastbourne, Dubai, and Sydney, despite being troubled by injuries.

Each of their four previous matches this season have been quite different, making it hard to get a read on this matchup. JHH retired from Austrailia, then destroyed Momo 6-1 6-2 on clay at Berlin, followed that up by dropping the Wimbledon final despite winning the first set 6-2, and again lost in three sets Friday in a match Mauresmo needed ten times more than JHH did. I think JHH may have shut it down after losing a tiebreak in the 2nd, knowing she would have a tough match looming Saturday against either Clijsters or Sharapova. She had already played three long sets against Hingis and I felt as though she wanted to remain fresh. Mauresmo has been on a tear since losing her opening match to Petrova, winning three straight three-setters over Hingis, Hardenne, and Clijsters. Mauresmo showed great heart, coming back from a set down against both JHH and Hingis in what amounted to must-win matches for Momo.

She has shown resolve this year that has not been present before, playing very well when the stakes have risen. JHH meanwhile, has uncharacteristically shrunk in the spotlight this year, losing finals against Mauresmo and Sharapova in Grand Slams. Despite this she has been the most impressive player here in Shanghai this week.

Mauresmo would love to come in and defend her title from last season, alleviating some of the pain of ceding her No. 1 ranking to JHH. If I had to bet, I would lean to JHH, but I am going to sit back and let my +701 on Momo ride.

GLTA!!!
