Got my SJ win last night, but was too much of a pussy to play my Mon and Cal leans....only have one for tonight as well...
Thrashers -122 vs Senators 2 Units
The books still really like this Sens team I guess, but this is not the same Sens team of the past 5 years. They are not even close to being as deep, and have goaltending issues. Losing Chara and Havlat really hurt. I know some people might think....wow, the Sens can't lose 5 in a row! Ummm, why not? They are playing on the road against a team tied for FIRST in the Eastern Conference with Buffalo. If this was Ott/Buf it would be -170. Atlanta is the better team, they are on a 3 game winning streak, have the two hottest players in the league (Kovalchuk + Hossa), and have superior goaltending (Lehtonen vs Gerber). Ottawa also missing their best defenceman in Redden (ques). I am going to go against the "Ottawa can't keep losing" theory, and say....they sure as hell can tonight against the Thrashers. You think the Atlanta dressing room gives a shit about how many games Ottawa has lost? There is an uproar in Canada's capital, with the losing season, as well as many Alfreddson trade rumours. Coach Murray also seems to be on thin ice. This line is a gift because of the Ottawa name, and their past history of winning. If this was TEAM A (25 points, first place, 3 game winning streak) against TEAM B (11 points, almost last place, 4 game losing streak), this line would be TEAM A -170 for sure. That's the reality. Take the Thrashers at this value price at home.

BOL.. With you on Thrashers.. Wonder why the line is so low? Alot of bookies like Sens.. I think Thrashers will just bring it and win 5-2

Because Ottawa has been a top 5 team the past 4 or 5 seasons, still have a couple big names, and the books can't let it go. I really think Atlanta is the value play here.

The sens are still a really good team, it just happens that they are struggling this early in the season. Let me give you a stat that is intersting, last 5 games in Atlanta, Ottawa has won 4 of them. I have a hard time believing a good team like the sens will lose 5 straight.

Atlanta is a better team, and aren't struggling.

What does that have to do with this year? Atlanta was a 10th place team last year, and Ottawa was a first place team with lots of depth. I got another trend....the '84 Oilers probably won 4 of 5 from the Whalers that year. Both stats mean about the same to me. Not relevant. But I notice in Nittney's thread, Detroit owning Edmonton is "thrown out of the window" because of changed personel this year. What's the diff here?
I have a hard time believing a good team like the sens will lose 5 straight.
Cool.....I figure alot of people might like Ottawa because of the "hard time believing they will lose five straight" theory. I don't believe it makes a difference. Not to that talented Atlanta room, or to my wager.
You could be right....Ottawa could very well win, but Atlanta is playing better right now, has the TOP TWO LEADING SCORERS in the NHL and we are getting a line this close to a pick'em? Please. Books still have a hard-on for Ottawa because of the past. But it's not the sweaters, it's the players in them. Value city in Georgia tonight.
GL with your plays, nad...and thanks....discussion is good, even if your always against me! lol

Hey GL JML!! You'r right discussion is good, sometimes we see things differently. You right if you have to go with who's playing better its obvious atlanta is but Ottawa is playing a team that likes to open it up and that should help them. Atlanta on the other hand is an amazingly talented team, they can outscore anybody. Plus you factor in Hossa and heatly playing each other players that were traded for each other. Redden is returning tonight also. Its going to be a good game for sure.
Good luck tonight, I think the line is the way that it is because Ott has dominated Atl in the past, Ott is 4-1 in Atlanta the last 5 and 7-3 overall in the last 10. Also Redden is back tonight and he brings a stability to the Sens team. The teams look nothing like the past with Atl being a more complete team this year. The only setback for Atlanta is Lehtonen giving up 4 goals on 13 shots last time out. I won't be on HotLanta tonight but I think they are the right play here.
Good luck.Too bad about the Leafs(Sundin)they were flying lately.

?? How do you figure, they are underdogs?? They usually are favs? You expect Atlanta to be a -150 fav? Line seems right.. GL oppo tonite

I'm with you JML.
I love this line even more that Gerber is in net. Ottawa isn't the explosive team they have been in the past and Atlanta should be favored by more.
The only thing that scares me is when it seems to easy it probably is. But that applies more to football than pucks.

1st place team at HOME facing an 11th place team on a 4 game losing streak. Any other team than the big bad Ottawa Sens, it is at least -150.
My take.
Atlanta is all over the Sens early, but Ottawa gets a fluke deflection goal off a Thrasher stick....1-0 Sens

Really....4 penalties to 0.
Good just to get out down 2-1 and almost even shots.
2 posts and a missed breakaway by ATL as well.
Should have some PPs coming our way in the second....and ATL is crazy good a man up

Red Wings -0.5 goals (reg) vs Oil 2 Units
Oilers struggling, losing 4 in a row on the road, playing a hot Wings team in a tough barn. I'll take it.....
