UAB @ SMU -4.5
i see a lot of value in this game. there are a few factors in this game that jumped out at me.
SMU is a very good home team going 3-0 so far this year 2-0 ats. the marshall score, 31-21, may look a little deceiving but SMU starting qb, justin willis, was suspended for fighting and did not start the game. he did however come in and throw 4 tds. he had 8 possessions on offense for the game. they scored on 5, fumbled once, and turned it over on downs once. pretty productive day. he was also suspended for the UTEP game where they lost by 3 as +13.5pt. dogs.
willis is arguably the best player in c-usa. He is 122-of-174 for 1,273 yards with 19 touchdowns and three interceptions and leads the league in passing effeciency.
UAB does not match up well against athletic qb's and it was evident in the rice game. rice qb clement ran for141 yds and 2 tds and threw for 191 and 3 tds in a 34-33 rice win as a -6 homedog. the rice def. has been struggling of late giving up 94pts in their last three games. not a good time to be struggling when going against the top ranked qb in your conference.
only things that concerns me a little is the injuries and smu defense. #2 wr bobby chase is questionable. the defense should be able to get their turnovers though.
