Thanks.

this is from the atptennis.com site, and there is a deeper expalanation there. Hey CNote, why don't we try to place in that contest they are having there? Prizes kinda suck, but what the heck, we could give it a UC shot...

Best two sites for tennis lines are Pinnacle & 5Dimes. There are a few others that are pretty good but when it comes to the total package including other sports there are no better then those two.

I'm on Vliegen already. I hating betting on or against Serra though as when he's a fave he loses and when he's a dog he wins. Just think Vliegen is a power player for this surface and his serve should help him win this match.

Max Mirnyi +116 5 units

I like the Beast in this spot over Ginepri, who has not fared so well on the carpet throughout his career. He is just 4-6 in his L10 while Mirnyi is 7-3 and has played on the carpet in each of his last three tournaments. H2H is tied at one each, with Ginepri winning the most recent match, a three-setter on clay in Rome. Mirnyi is also 8-2 in his L10 at Paris while Ginepri has won her just once.

:thx:

I love watching the Masters Series as we get it Live In Australia, really good to watch a match like the Almagro game, the problem with him is Unforced errors he made the game more of a problem then what it really was. Can tell he is a clay player, but he hasnt been doing too badly this year on other surfaces - Wimbledon comes to mind.

Almagro has tons of talent but has a habit to let it get away from him. The kid has tons of power which i think can translate to better results outside clay. old man showed some grit in the 3rd set but fortunately Almagro finished him off in the TB.

Two different categories. Chucho is doing it in a game before coming back while Nalbandian falls down 1 or 2 breaks in a set before pulling off a magical comeback.

coreyschucky

Sorry guys I wasn't around but I took Grosjean for two reasons...First supposedly X-Man was carrying a knee injury he picked up last week into this match and Secondly Grosjean owns X-Man to a tune of 7-0 in his career. As for why I like Wawa over Gicquel it comes down to more talent. Wawa showed alot last week and has played very well indoors. Although Gicquel has played quite well of late and traditionally does well in France I feel Wawa's game should put him ahead here.

BeyondTheGame
10-31-2006, 07:28 AM
Just watching on tely here, Grosjean has the better of Melisse, Grosjean keeps hitting to the backhand side of Melisse which has been weak during this game I think its 16 or so unforced errors off the backhand, and Grosjean is playing very well here, just a fe mental laspes here and there.

Edit: In the end it was the Forehand Error that cost Melisse the match! - Good Game Highly Enjoyable!

Thanks for the Winner Corey!

Benneteau +122 over Santoro 7 units

I just don't see where the value is with Santoro. These two have only met once before, in 2003, and Santoro may have an edge there as Benneteau will have to get used to all his crazy spins. Otherwise the stats all favor Julien.

Santoro has flamed out of the first round in six of his last seven tournamenet. He made a nice run at the Moscow Open, winning three matches, his only three wins in his L10 matches.

Corey, is there anything I am missing with Benneteau??? I appreciated the heads up on Mirnyi yesterday, but just do not see any reason why Santoro should be favored in this match. That scares me a little since he is the favorite.

Santoro likes this tourney and he is a very tough player to play against. Should be a tight match maybe 3 sets but according to way the line moved all the money is on Santoro. Benneteau opened as a -120 fave and is now a +120 dog.

If you want early lines the best place is Pinnacle. If you want Challenger or doubles lines 5Dimes is the only place. You can parlay matches at 5Dimes but you can't at Pinnacle. There generally is a small price difference between the two sites but those two are the only ones i recommend.

chucky, what do u think about Knowles and Nester -260 Vs. Melzer and Knowle?

Knowles and Nester are one of the best doubles teams, one Melzer isn't too shabby himself.

u think this is a good bet?

Sharukh10

Early Line for Gonzalez vs. Benneteau is -320.

I don't see gonzalez having much trouble looks like a good price. Benneteau was a in a war and santoro should have put him away.

Also i know murray hasn't done much lately, but this is a good surface for him and Chela didn't need to do much to beat srichaphan, so it wasn't impressive.

Murray -278 looks enticing.

Not to go with all the favorites, I also like Ancic -285.

Vliegen had a hard time breaking serra, i think ancic can pull through 6-4 6-4.

What do you guys think.

Personafied - Very simple. You must win a set by two games or win the set in a TB which would happen when both players have won 6 games in the set. In the TB the first player to 7 pts wins but they have to win the TB by at least 2 pts so if it's tied at 6 it's the first one to get a 2 pt edge. So in Wawrinka's case he won his match 7-6 (8-6 in TB), 6-7 (Lost 2nd set tb 7-4) and he won the 3rd set 7-6 (7-2 in the TB) When you see a score like 7-6 (2) it means the player won the TB by a score of 7-2. Possible scorelines for any given match are as followed: 6-0, 6-1, 6-2, 6-3, 6-4, 7-5, 7-6. Only time you'll see a different scoreline that that would be in a major or in doubles.

DB seems to be getting a pretty nice price here as Jarko is coming off an injury to his left foot which forced him to retire last week in St. Petersburg. This is also the first meeting between the two H2H. Jarko has not fared well historically at Paris compiling a 1-3 record.

I think some of this price may be due to the fact that DB is playing his third match in four days. He looked pretty sharp in his straight set victory over Gilles Simon, a player who gave him lots of trouble in New York this year. (I know firsthand, I watched my money go down the drain that Monday). DB was off today and fatigue should not be a huge factor for him. It'll be interesting to see how Jarko's foot holds up in what should be a long match, due to DB's big serve ability.

I know it's late for this as the match was closed by the books already but here was my reasoning behind the line:

Djokovic - Season 40W - 17L ------Indoors 16W - 5L
Mathieu - Season 22W - 27L ------Indoors 3W - 5L

H2H - Djokovic won 6-1, 6-3 on Hardcourts in Miami

Mathieu is a bigtime headcase. He's got alot of talent but generally he folds in his matches. Overall PHM has not had a good season while the very talented Djokovic is having a breakout season as in the verge of being a top 10 player next season. Talent wise Djokovic is much better and is better form here.

That's how I feel about xavier Malisse.

Anyways, I'm very uneasy myself with Mathieu here., he actually is looking pretty good. I'm going to be so angry if he loses cuz I coulda gotten a better value with Berdych or Haas (although he has just blown the match and gone to a tiebreak), or Niemenan.

Sometimes the younger the better. In certain cases yes I would be wary of betting on a 19 yr old but not when a player has tons of talent. You'll get hurt from time to time but for the most part if they are talented enough and have a decent head they'll win. In the WTA the best value is generally on the 16 - 19 yr olds who are dogs as sometimes they have tons of talent but just aren't given enough credit due to there age. Sports are becoming more and more of a young mans game.

Agreed... tough breaks there - pretty agonizing to watch.

You made the right call on the match, as Djokovic seems to have been playing very well, and Mathieu was sketchy.

I think that when playing 5 and 10 units, playing 50 units on any favorite is tough, though. If they are -250 or -350 or above, it can easily wipe out a month's worth of profits, even if you went 33-5.

Well the season's almost over... okay time for James Blake to represent, let's go!

Oh Dojo looked good - but hell I have been liking the kid since Wimbledon when he went 5 Sets with Ancic. He did look the better IMHO - But I think having the Home Crowd helped for Mathieu.

Also just some silly slips by Dojo cost him the game he went for the Drop Shots too. But its tennis and its usually just a few points that usually cost you the game and for Dojo that is the case.

I read this...I'm having a hard time imagining it...WTF?????

"France's Paul-Henri Mathieu won a marathon second round clash against Novak Djokovic leaving the beaten Serbian teenager to regret his decision to enter the court sporting a Zorro-style face mask.

Mathieu clinched a third round match against either compatriot Sebastien Grosjean or Spanish sixth seed Tommy Robredo with his 7-6 (13/11), 7-6 (7/4) win.

Nineteen-year-old Djokovic, the 12th seed, had come into the tournament enjoying the best season of his career with two titles in 2006 having pushed his ranking up to 16 in the world.

With his confidence on a high, he strolled on to centre court wearing the black Zorro mask, associated with the fictional Mexican hero, and he had plenty of opportunities to back up that self-belief."

JEEZ!!!!! All I can it do is laugh at the absurdity of it!!!

That is pretty funny. You gotta admire his spirit if not his play vs. Mathieu.

Corey, you've been doing a great job on the picks. I don't think you should stop based on two unlikely losses... your record outside of those has been great. Also, your analysis on the matches has been superb.

Cool yall.

Paco-g - It's not the two losses it's just the end of the season and looking at the results the first three days of Paris I see no reason to continue. Players are just too unpredictable right now. However here's my take on tomorrow's matches:

Davydenko vs Tursunov - Nikolay should win but motivation factor is a question. Nikolay has already secured his spot in the TMC so it'll depend on whether he wants to rest up for Shanghai or not. I highly doubt this will happen and based on Davydenko's solid play i think he'll beat Dmitry. Dmitry has had a good year but he seems ready for his vacation.

Berdych vs. Ginepri - Got to go with Robby in this one as he would be a nice value play. I'm a big fan of both these players but Tomas showed he's not at the top of his game with his struggles versus Oliver today. Just think Robby has been playing solid tennis and should be a good dog play.

Blake vs. Haas - Important match for both but realistically Blake needs this win alot more. Blake is on the verge of qualifying for the TMC next week and with Fena's loss today he's one step closer. There are a few scenarios where he can still miss out but a win here would get him in. Haas has a slim chance and must win the tournament and have a few other things happen to get in. Blake should win this as the surface suits him better.

Ancic vs. Benneteau - Benneteau should not have gotten this far and was very fortunate to get to this round due to his opponents mistakes. Ancic has a slim shot at the TMC but he must continue winning to keep his dream alive. Gotta think the motivation factor of the TMC is on Ancic's side as last weeks win in St. Petersburg has shown he's on top of his game right now.

Gabashvili vs. Nieminen - Teimuraz is the luckiest man in the world. As a Lucky Loser he was able to get in due to Roger's withdrawal and was handed a 1st round bye. He was lucky enough to run into a tired ToJo and managed to beat him in 3 sets. A job well done. I've always liked Jarkko as he is very consistent throughout the season. Jarkko should win but i probably wouldn't touch it.

Mathieu vs. Robredo - This might be the ugliest match of the day. Somehow Robredo got one step closer to TMC next week. he was down 3-6, 2-5 and grosjean serving for the match when he pulled off a miraculous comeback. he actually came really close to blowing it when he was up 5-2 in the 3rd and got broken until he was finally able to break grosjean for the match. As i personally know Mathieu absolutely killed me today. He's shown a side of himself that is rarely seen for PHM fans. This guy has talent no doubt but his head is all fucked up and he finds ways to blow matches. Djokovic should have finished him off but he didn't. Honestly if you bet this match take out the tums, pepto or whatever antacid you use and expect a crazy match.

Murray vs. Hrbaty - I think the value lies in the dominator here. Hrbaty is a very solid indoor player and Murray has a tendency to underachieve in matches. I'd go with Hrbaty for pure value.

Gasquet vs. Safin - Just a tough match and I would leave this one alone. This match has 3 tough sets written all over it. I'd love to watch it and I wouldn't bet it.

If I was betting tennis on Thursday I'd only place wagers on Davydenko and Blake.

Good Luck to All!!!!

is going down like the serious choke artist he has always been.Never is a long time, but I think he may never have the balls to win a must win match. Roddick needed Connors to give him some drive, but this guy really needs Conners for mental toughness as well. Of course it is not over yet, given Haas' own flightiness, but still...:gulp:

YUP he :flush: 4, 2...pathetic. I thinki the surest bet in sports, aside from Federer and maybe Bernardini, is that James Blake will choke a crucial match.!!

Berdych is unbeaten all-time (8-0) at Paris. He is 10-0 in his L10 on carpet. Still -361 is not a great price for a QF match. Also leaning toward Ancic. He is really playing well right now.

at first glance I thought Davydenko was a lock against Ancic, but apparently Ancic has won the last 2 meetings.

2-2 split all time.

http://www.atptennis.com/3/en/players/headtohead/?player1=Davydenko%2C+Nikolay&player2=Ancic%2C+Mario&playernum2=A385

Ancic is 2-0 in challengers and futures? I dunno really what that means.

Davydenko's serve is just amazing though. He can give Federer a run for his money.

hmmmm..... still taking Davydenko, but going smaller here.

Just put me outta my misery here in this tournament.I just bet on Safin and Nieminen. so fade away. I bet on Nieminen simply because Robredo's head is already in Shanghai, I suspect. Safin, well, he lures me in by his talent all the time and then goes Dostoevsky on me. But as the write up says "Safin has a sterling career record of 23-2 here and is only the second player to win this tournament three times: in 2004 over Stepanek, in 2002 over Hewitt and in 2000 over Philippoussis. Boris Becker won in 1986, 1989 and 1992." I generally do not care for trends but what the hell.

Berdych should win but as others have said, pricey.GL:gulp:

This bet is a bit unorthodox but here it is anyway...

Will T. Haas win in 2-1 sets ?

51) Yes +435

Risking 50.00 to Win 217.50 USD

Will M. Safin win in 2-1 sets ?

55) Yes +291

Risking 50.00 to Win 145.50 USD

My thinking behind this is I will have a winner no matter what if the match goes three sets. Safin wins = 95.50 profit, Haas wins = 167.50 profit. These two have played three previous times with each match going the distance, twice five-setters. Haas was in great form yesterday against Blake and Safin recieved the afternoon off. Here's hoping they play three!

***Disclaimer*** This strategy can (and has) blown up in your face. You could be down ten units if there is not three sets played. You find yourself rooting for one guy in the first, another in the second, and counting money in the third. I do not recommend this type of play very often, but the numbers all lined up for me.

FWIW, I also played Ancic last night at Pinnacle. I got him at +154, line is now down to +140.

I like the bet on the Haas-Safin match. I am not sure that the fact that they are both head cases should influence it one way or the other;I could see one folding up like a cheap tent if losing the first set in a TB. However, since both are in good form, all things being equal, the match SHOULD go three sets. GL! :gulp:

PS Recovering, the fact that Ancic won when they were both laboring in the Challengers and futures circuit just means he handled him when they were up and coming youths. Davydenko has since made more improvement (as is obvious in his ranking) but as you know Ancic is finally becoming the player people always expected him to be. He has a superb serve as well.

Davydenko's main strength is his incredible quickness and his footwork. The latter in particular is truly noteworthy. I don't know if you play the game at all, but if so, a tape of one of his matches when he is on form is soemthing to watch in terms of footwork and preparation.

I like safin against haas, maybe his loss at the US open will provide some extra motivation. Either way, I think Safin is at his best form of the year.

Also i like Ancic to win in 2 sets at +395. My feeling here is that ancic has played alot of tennis and will try to finish it off in 2 sets, and if it goes three davydenko will have a greater advantage - ancic has alot of heart tho. Also Ancic has a big enough serve to consistently hold and maybe pull out of a few tight sets. I don't fancy davys return against an serve and volley - attacking player like ancic.

fuck I knew one of the close to even money favs would lose. Robredo winning spelled my doom on davydenko. The way the match is going, we're gonna have a super mario win 7-6 7-6

Ancic is like 6 5", tall as motherfucker.

Too bad but small investmenti see this 2nd set going quick.

Davydenko is honestly one of the most consistent players on tour and with the exception of Nadal and Federer he can consistenly beat anyone on tour. Ancic fell into the pressure of having to win to make the TMC.

amazing how many of these talented players are mentally weak as water. Mental toughness in all sports is soooo important, and yet soooo rare. There are a thousand choke artists for every one clutch player, or so it seems, in all sports.

Davydenko should wipe the floor with Robredo. Robredo is now qualified for the TMC so I really don't expect him to fight too hard now.

As for Mirnyi - Haas, I like Mirnyi but the scary this there is Haas has to win the tournament to take the last TMC spot so he has alot of motivation. I would just root for Mirnyi to take Haas out so Blake can finally secure the last spot.

Good Luck!!!!

Hrbaty @ Haas

Both players enter this match in great form. As Corey said, a win today for Haas earns him a spot in Shanghai. He really helped his cause with a straight sets victory over James Blake earlier this week.

Both players come into this match very familiar with one another. They have met thirteen previous times with Haas leading the series 8-5. Their most recent meeting came in Madrid in October with Haas prevailing in two sets.

Hrbaty was quite impressive in snapping Tomas Berdych's ten match unbeaten streak at Paris TMS yesterday. He won 31/36 (86%) of 1st serve points, including 25/27 in the two sets he won.

Hrbaty has looked good all week long, serving up a 2nd set bagel to Andy Murray and handling the BIG serve of Igor Andreev with ease. Despite the extra motivation for Haas, I think the Dominator is going to prevail. Should be a tough match, probably three sets.

Going with....

Will D. Hrbaty win in 2-1 sets ?

I believe Davydenko should and will win the final on sunday. No value on his line and with Davydenko sporting a minor injury it's not worth the risk. If you want a shot on a dog line I'd take Davydenko to win 3-1 in sets as Hrbaty can certainly take Davydenko to a TB in one and take it.
