okay I talked to the live chat, they hadda take it down while it was "updating." It comes back at -135. nice early value you got on that -120.

Mardy Fish is the play here. Malisse is not getting any points when he's not serving. Fish's games are so fast that I almost miss them when I turn my head.

recovering77
10-16-2006, 07:30 AM
damnit, it was looking so good in the second set, deuce with the advantage, then alllllll downhill. Malisse's second serve sucks. All I see is 0-15 if he doesn't get the first serve out. I guess I'm taking Massu, and if he loses I'm in big trouble.

man, I still can't believe that Malisse lost. He was looking so good in the first set, about to break him, and then he just loses. So disappointed. Shoulda known there was a reason why 5 dimes took that lines down 5 mins after I put 580 on it.

Wish I had my match settled earlier so I could take Grosjean, but that match looks shady anyways. I see a +50 turnaround on Grosjeans line, but then slowly see it go back up awaiting the start time.

Got work later so I guess that will be the end of tennis for me. Let's see if we can get this last one with Calleri.

coreyschucky
10-16-2006, 10:17 AM
The reason for the line swing on Grosjean is his injured shoulder. He had asked the tourney director to move his match to Tuesday but there was some sort of mixup and his match was scheduled for today. I just think Grosjean is still good enough to beat Bjorkman and if he was too hurt he would have withdrawn from the tourney.

Both are plays of mine already just look above. I like Soderling somewhat and hesistant to go higher on him due to my respect of Olivier Rochus. As for Tursy he's one of my favorite players and although I do like Vliegen as well I think Tursy has a good matchup for himself.

I was on Hrbaty as well. I finally got a retirement that went in my direction for once. I lost my wager at 5Dimes yesterday when Gaudio retired at 1 set apiece with Massu. So I kind of got some revenge back, so to say with Hrbaty winning by retirement. I hope Tursunov can get past Vliegen today. Let's go Dmitry!

I would say Fish +733 over Nadal (3rd time's a charm), if it weren't for the match being played in Spain...

...which actually leads me to a question for those of you who know more than I do about tennis...

Is having home soil that much of an advantage in tennis? Not talking about Davis Cup here, but just the weekly ATP events? Is that a good reason for staying off this match? What if it was played in some random place like Russia?

Seems like if the tourney is in Sweden I'll find myself leaning toward the Swedes especially in the early rounds. Even though I think this is already built into the lines sometimes I still don't like picking against the French in France, etc. It seems like (especially with some of the smaller countries) they always have an anonymous wild card or qualifier that pulls an upset.

Now I know there's the obvious answers like Agassi feeding off the energy in New York, or Mauresmo choking on the pressue of Paris. My question is more about the lower profile events. Is there a significant "home field advantage"?

Home tourney advantage really depends on the tourney and the player. Perfect example Igor Kunitsyn. Look at this guys results the last few years in tournaments that are in Russia. In almost every case he gets deep into tourney's as opposed to when he plays elsewhere he struggles to find the same form. You see it alot that home players go deep in tourney's but you also see alot go out in the first round i.e. here in Madrid.

I would never ever criticize a play but take a look at past results so you'll see in the future to avoid matches like this. Blake has played in alot of tournaments lately and has gone deep in all of them so he was sure to be exhausted and on top of that Blake has never won in Madrid in his career. The price was not worth the play IMO. Saying all that Blake had the match for the taking and blew it. I'm sure you'll guys will bounce back. Let's get the rest of the plays today.

P.S. I've fallen into the trap plenty of times and I'm still learning to avoid them. ie Dmitry Tursunov this week:thumbs:

play simply because Blake is a well known choke artist. I doubt his physical shape had anything to do with his loss today:his biggest enemy is his head ( or his guts) not his physical conditioning.I usually avoid him for that reason, but cashing on him last week made me think he would go further than normal here. But, no, still the same old choker.Live and burn.:bang:

I'm trying to hit it in the middle. I dunno why.

I've got Ljubi at -285

but I got murray at +3.5 games, if he can pick up a third game in the second set, and lose 6-4 or better in the 3rd, I'll middle this one.

lol, I am actually getting good at picking tennis. So sad, I usually just bet on tennis cuz theres nothing to bet on, and the only people I used to know is like Federer and shit. Now I know about guys like Thomas Berdych and Robin Soderling,

Cause Baggy is in horrible form heading into the match. Might be worth a play though cause Safin had a horrible match yesterday despite winning and he might run into some physical problems today. For me this is a no bet match either way.

It seems that a lot of these guys that are playing their first match struggle against guys that have already played and won and are used to the surface...

Not sure if that is a trend but it's worth noting...

Johansson def. Davydenko (1st match)
Ginepri (1st match win) def. Ancic (1st match)
Vliegen (1st match, straight set win) def. Blake (1st match, maybe too tired?)
Murray def. Ljubicic (1st match)
Safin (won long 1st match) def. Baghdatis (1st match)
Soderling (1st match, straight set win) def. Ferrero (1st match)

Where it didn't hold true

Nadal def. Fish
Haas def. Hrbaty (Hrbaty won prior match by retirement and lost first set 3-6)
Gonzalez def. Srichaphan (Gonzalez 1st match won but was taken to the limit)
Djokovic def. Gasquet
Tomas Berdych def. Agustin Calleri

.....

Madrid

20* Nikolay Davydenko (-190) Over Joachim Johansson - 11:00 AM
10* Fernando Gonzalez (-270) Over Paradorn Srichaphan - 5:00 AM
10* Mario Ancic (-170) Over Robby Ginepri - 5:00 AM

Well i wouldn't say it's a theory but just something to take note of... maybe it takes a match to adjust to the playing surface. Johansson was playing very well in prior matches. So for the prices, it seemed reasonable.

Anyways hindsight's always 20/20 so some of it may just be coincidence as well.

coreyschucky

On indoor surfaces like this it's all about serve. In JJ's case he has probably the biggest serve in the game next to Karlovic if not better. It's very hard to break the guy when he serves so hard so if you have a mental lapse like Davydenko did twice in the match your going to lose.

I thought Nalbandian looked good but I was checking here before I made this play hoping to find you on him as well, and you are, and for 10 units! Good deal. And I kinda like Djokovic too, I'd like to throw in a relatively large bet on one of these 2. Maybe I'll just hit both of them and then pray that at worst one of them wins. I feel reeeeally nervous about my favorites lately but I have to believe Nalbandian gets this done assuming there's no funny business and he doesn't job out to Henman.

I'm gonna risk $100 on Nalbandian at -184 to take out Henman. I'll see how that goes before I decide on Djokovic. I'm kinda sweet on Murray so I don't like to go against him but Djokovic is the man. That one's not until later on though so I'll have plenty of time to ponder. Damn I wish I could watch that one on TV. The sportsmanship there will probably be world class. :pud:

I see several dogs on that card of yours though...you alright man haha! Good luck with all your plays

Ginepri, Soderling +5.5 -175, Johannson, Nalbandian, Djokovic.

I hate betting on Roddick. But I think he wins here.

I usually don't bet on Roddick, Blake, or Tursonov. Least favorite here.

I'm really loving the game line for Soderling here. I think he might even be able to take a set against Federer.

Nalbandian's new name is the MAGICIAN. How this guy keeps pulling out these wins is ridiculous. Down a break against Henman he breaks TH when serving for the match and breaking him again after that. The match before he was down 4-1 to Benneteau in the 3rd and came back to win. This guys keeps pulling wins out his ass.

there is no way in hell Kirilenko beats Srebotnik tomorrow.

I can't bet against Djokovic though. I said I was gonna fade him after how he played today, but he's playing a guy that won by forfeit.

The Nadal line has dropped a lot since last night. Dunno what to think about that.

it seems as if no one wants to win a game they're serving in the Safin match. Safin has looked horrible, but broke Nalbandian while he was serving for the match. Then he's down 0-40, about to get broken, and he pulls out the set somehow.

EDIT

WOW, Safin up 0-40 on Nalbandian's serve and somehow we end up in a 2nd set tie break.
