The Baltimore Ravens are sitting at 4-0 right now, a chic pick as an elite level team. Baltimore dominated their first two opponents, then rallied from behind on Steve McNair led fourth quarter game winning drives in each of the last two weeks. But those who think that the Ravens are as good as their record are going to be in for a nasty surprise on Monday Night as they travel to Denver for their toughest test of the season.

The Ravens rank #2 in the NFL in yards per game allowed defensively and #3 in the league in points allowed. But look at the four opposing quarterbacks that they have faced: Chris Simms, Andrew Walter, Charlie Frye and Philip Rivers, not exactly a murderer’s row of opposing quarterbacks. While Jake Plummer ranks a notch or two below the elite level quarterbacks in the NFL, he’s certainly a good notch or two better than any of the QBs that the Ravens have shut down thus far this season.

Offensively, the Ravens are a sub-par group, just as they have been in recent seasons. Their red zone offense has been nothing short of awful, producing only seven touchdowns all season. Their 3.4 yards per carry ranks in the bottom quartile of the league, while McNair’s stats are mediocre at best, with a 75.4 quarterback rating and only 5.7 yards per pass attempt. Facing a Broncos defense that has allowed exactly one touchdown this season, we can expect points to be very hard to come by for Baltimore on Monday Night.

Denver has a fantastic track record coming off a bye week under Mike Shanahan, 13-4 in that role, including wins by two touchdowns or more in each of the last three seasons. It’s surely worth noting that the Broncos have won their last 11 regular season home games. They have the type of balanced offense that Baltimore simply hasn’t faced this season, with big play weapons in Javon Walker at wide receiver and Tatum Bell at running back, capable of breaking off quick touchdowns against the Ravens defense. Look for Denver to firmly establish themselves as AFC contenders while exposing the Ravens as pretenders in their Monday Night showdown at Invesco Field.

Prediction: Denver wins 20-6

Nice write up. However, I disagree with:

"They have the type of balanced offense that Baltimore simply hasn’t faced this season, with big play weapons in Javon Walker at wide receiver and Tatum Bell at running back, capable of breaking off quick touchdowns against the Ravens defense."

Do you mean to tell me that you think Denver's Plummer, Bell, Walker combination is better than the Charger's Rivers, Tomlinson, Gates combination???

Baltimore did what they had to do against the Chargers holding them to just 13 points. Keeping LT in check for the most part holding him to just 98 yards on 27 carries (3.6 yds/carry). I think Plummer blows, and will cough up the ball at least twice against that D, and I also think that Bell can't even be compared to Tomlinson, and therefore, will only run for about 60 yards max.

JMO.

GL tonight!:yeah:

True. Baltimore did keep the Chargers in check last week...but that was at home...and with Phillip Rivers as QB. From what I saw, the Chargers were ultra conservative, yet they led from the beginning until Baltimore last drive. Look at what the Chargers did last night vs. Pittsburgh. They opened up a bit more and let Rivers throw more.

Personally I see tonight's game as being very similar to the Redskins/Giants game. Both Giants and Broncos had a bye last week and are at home this week vs. two teams that won hard fought games last week at home at the very last moment. I've only been watching and betting the NFL for a few years and I've noticed that teams off bye weeks have been very beneficial and profitable.

I also like the Under 33.
Public is on Baltimore and Over (both around 60%).

I agree with you on the under. I just don't see this being a blow out.

Well I got Denver -4. If you have Baltimore +5.5 then I hope Denver wins by 5...like a 12-7 score. Cash in our under too.

Oh and GO BEARS! They've been money so far

Ditto. I was just going to say that till I saw you already took care of it. That game was in Balt, plus if SD would have had the balls to open it up, I think they could have put that game away....but they really tried to sit on their small lead and ride their defense to the win.

I was on Balt in that game, and felt really lucky to get the win.

You guys forget about Balt's corners. Chargers had to stick to the their number 2 ranked rushing game. They didn't want Rivers to force passes ending up in turnovers which is what would have happened against the Ravs defense. They played it right, Marty is a better game planner than you would think. Can't blame him for the loss, maybe Chargers defense let up a little at the end, blame them. I'm all over the RAVENS though.

BOL to all!
