JoeP- GL!.....check the ECU player base as they had injuries and a lot of illness last week....like the WIS pick as they have beaten MIN at home L5 by an average of 20 PPG...most likely will be on them.......and i am playing just KENT Over 26 1/2, not the game...i don't trust Toledo with the freshman if he is at QB. I figure KENT should be good for 30+....GL!...

From the EAST CAROLINA web site:

East Carolina finished with 432 total yards against one of the nation's stingier defenses, including 208 on the ground after spending its bye week focusing on improving a rushing attack that averaged just 98 yards per game. The Pirates committed no turnovers and had only two penalties for 20 yards. Their biggest mistakes were two missed field goals by Robert Lee and a blocked punt that set up a Virginia touchdown early in the third quarter. The Pirates even got a 2-yard rushing score from punter Ryan Dougherty on a fake field goal for a 31-14 lead with 2:17 left, capping a 9-minute drive that sealed the win.
"They out-kicked us, out-coached us, out-defended us, outran us so we got the result we got," Virginia coach Al Groh said. "They were very physical. They ran the ball with authority and it just took us too long to get started on defense."
All that came despite missing Allison and Johnson. Skip Holtz ruled Allison out Saturday morning due to an ankle injury he suffered against West Virginia, while Johnson had been limited with a toe injury all week. But Fractious and Simmons carried the load for Johnson, while Bobby Good finished with five catches for 102 yards to make up for the absences. Holtz even juggled his offensive line to boost the ground game, with true freshman Cory Dowless making his first start at guard while Matt Butler moved from guard to center. The results were almost immediate against a defense that came in ranked 20th nationally by allowing 263 yards per outing. Pinkney ran for 42 yards and threw for 224, while Simmons ran for 57 yards. "I think the sky's the limit with us," Fractious said. "I think we can produce way better and do way more."

JoeP- i was all over ECU last weekend.....still don't know what everyone saw in UVA....but they did have the flu run through the team mid week last week......i may be on them again this week, especially if healthy...tough to argue with 13-3 ATS under Holtz L16 and they managed to cover a TD last weekend, now they are getting points...like that role....would like to get a FG, though, if i can....GL!...

Why Central Michigan vs. Ball State

CMU finds itself in an unfamiliar position heading into Saturday’s Homecoming game against Ball State. For the first time since 1990, the Chippewas are 3-0 in Mid-American Conference alone in first place in the West Division. The Chippewas posted their first win at Toledo since 1993 on Saturday night, rattling off 42 consecutive points in a 42-20 victory over the Rockets. Dan LeFevour threw for 295 yards and three scores (he threw for 411 vs. KY the week prior), while the defense (fumble return & interception return) tallied 2 scores. “To go on the road, to a place where our opponent had won 36-of-38, spot them a 14-point lead, and then battle back and win the game—I think that says a lot about who our kids are and what they are made of,” said third-year head coach Brian Kelly. “This is kind of unchartered territory, and it is going to be an education for us. The main thing for us is we know we have to show up ready to play every weekend and remain focused on the task at hand.” The next task is a Homecoming date with Ball State on Saturday. The Cardinals are 2-4 overall, 2-1 in the MAC, following a 55-25 win at Buffalo on Saturday. True freshman Nate Davis completed 11-of-14 passes for 247 yards and three touchdowns. Through six games, Davis has thrown for 917 yards and 12 touchdowns against just one interception. CMU has won two straight over the Cardinals, both come-from-behind wins in the 2004 and 2005 season finales, and leads the all-time series 19-18-1. The Chippewas have not defeated Ball State in three consecutive seasons since 1984-86. Saturday’s contest is the first of two in a five-day span for CMU. Bowling Green visits Kelly/Shorts Stadium on Thursday, Oct. 19 for a MAC contest that will be televised nationally on ESPNU at 7:30 p.m. Ball State presents a tricky challenge for CMU in that true frosh QB Nate Davis from Bellaire, OH has thrown for 917 yards, 12 TDS and one INT as is 63/91….albeit one of those games was lowly Buffalo where he was 27/38 and had 298 yards and 4TD tosses. BSU can score no doubt about it, but they cannot stop anybody. To date the Cardinals defense has given up 2457 total yards of offense to Indiana, Buffalo, North Dakota State, Purdue and NIU, that’s an average of 491 total yards per game. They rank 119th vs. the pass and give up 390ypg passing on the road and gave up 451 thru the air to N. Dakota in Muncie, IN. BSU has two key offensive injuries for this week, a starting guard and TB MiQuale Lewis are both injured, while Lewis is the teams leading rusher with 290yds. and a 5.8ypc average. CMU has played the better schedule with Toledo, Akron, Michigan, Boston College and an away game at Kentucky and it’s homecoming! Don't look ahead CMU, this BSU team does have some legit weapons, but you are much better than they are! CMU has two must win games within a week cannot afford to get caught looking ahead!

Mizzou @ Texas A&M

The 19th-ranked Missouri Tigers (6-0 overall, 2-0 in Big 12 play), make a return trip to the Lone Star State for the second straight week off to just the 4th 6-0 start in school history, and look to follow up a strong overall outing that saw them win a 38-21 decision last Saturday at Texas Tech. In that game, the Tiger defense forced 5 Red Raider turnovers, and converted them into 28 points – with the defense scoring twice on the night. Texas A&M has won 5-of-6 games to begin the season, with the only setback a last-second heartbreaking 31-27 home loss to the same Texas Tech squad two weeks ago. The Aggies rebounded last week by pulling out their own last-minute comeback win, as they won at Kansas by a 21-18 count after scoring a TD in the final minute. Mizzou’s current 7-game winning streak dating back to last season (MU ended the 2005 season with a 38-31 win against South Carolina in the Independence Bowl) is among the nation’s best. Entering play this weekend, MU’s streak ranks as 4th-best in the nation. Mizzou currently can boast being only 1-of-2 schools in the nation to have both its offense and defense ranked in the nation’s top-15 in total yardage. The Tigers enter Saturday as the nation’s 11th-ranked defense, allowing 255.00 yards per game, while their offensive counterparts aren’t far behind, ranking 15th in the NCAA (423.83 ypg). The Tiger defense ranks 2nd in the Big 12 Conference, and 10th in the NCAA, in rushing defense, allowing 72.67 yards per game on the ground thus far. Mizzou trails only Texas in the league, as the Longhorns are currently giving up only 51.17 rushing yards a game. Mizzou has allowed only 1 rushing TD this season through 6 games – tied for least in the nation, along with UCLA, Florida and Ohio State. Opponents in 2006 are averaging 2.7 yards per attempt on the ground so far, with Colorado netting a season-high 183 yards on the ground in 36 attempts (5.1 avg.). Texas Tech ran just 15 times last Saturday in Lubbock, and netted 78 yards total (4.9 avg.). The Tigers D has held 4 opponents to less than 78 yards rushing on the season. QB Chase Daniel averages 244.8yds passing per game, while 1000yd back Tony Temple has a 5.5ypc average and 563 yards on the season. Mizzou and Texas A&M will meet for the 9th time when they take the field Saturday in College Station, and the Aggies own a 6-2 advantage in the previous eight contests. Mizzou, however, has won two straight in the series, claiming a 33-27 double-overtime win in College Station in 2002, and following with a 45-22 triumph in Columbia in 2003. Those wins evened the series at 2-2 since the inception of the Big 12 Conference in 1996. MIZZOU HAS YET TO TRAIL IN A GAME SO FAR….Sales of antacid products like Tums and Rolaids have presumably been low in Columbia so far this fall, as the Tigers have not yet played any nail-biters – winning by an average margin of 22.3 points per game thus far on the way to its 6-0 start. In fact, the stress level for fans has been very low so far overall, as Mizzou has yet to trail in a game heading into the Texas A&M. In all, in 360 total minutes of play so far, Mizzou has held the lead for 331 minutes and 50 seconds. It has been tied for a total of just 28 minutes and 10 seconds of play so far. Mizzou hopes to continue a trend that has seen them jump out to leads right away in its first 6 games. As indicated earlier, Mizzou has not yet trailed in a game, and the Tigers have outscored opponents by a whopping 72-3 margin in the 1st quarter thus far. Mizzou has gained a total of 915 yards of offense in the 1st quarter, compared to a total of 306 yards for opponents, and opponents had not taken a snap on MU’s side of the field, nor had they achieved one first down in the 1st quarter against MU’s, until Ohio did in week #4.

Wisconsin vs. Minnesota

The most-played rivalry in NCAA Division IA football resumes on Saturday, Oct. 14, when Wisconsin hosts the Minnesota Golden Gophers. The two schools will be meeting for the 116th time and have played every year since 1907. In fact, the only year the two programs have not met since 1890 was 1906. The winner of the annual contest is, of course, the recipient of the famed Paul Bunyan Axe. UW redshirt freshman running back P.J. Hill ran for a career-high 249 yards against Northwestern and ranks fifth in the country in rushing yards per game (141.2 ypg.) ... over the past two games, the Badgers have scored 93 points and gained 1,066 yards of total offense ... UW is ranked for the first time this season, debuting in the Associated Press poll at No. 25. UW is allowing just 12.8 points per game, second-lowest in the Big Ten and 13th-best in the country. The Badgers lead the Big Ten and are 9th in the country in total defense, yielding just 246.7 yards per game. Wisconsin is 2nd in the country in pass efficiency defense at 87.5. The Badgers are allowing just 8.63 yards per completion, BEST in the nation. UW opponents have scored only 2 touchdowns through the air, tied for the fewest passing touchdowns allowed in the country. The Badgers also rank 3rd in the country in passing defense, allowing just 128.0 yards through the air. Wisconsin is tied for 9th in the country in opponents’ third-down conversion rate (28.1 percent). In the last five games,
Badger opponents are just 17 of 68 (.250) on third down. The Badger defense has yielded just 86 first downs this season, second-lowest in the Big Ten after Michigan. UW’s defense has allowed just 4 touchdowns on 12 opponent trips inside the red zone (33.3 percent). Quarterback John Stocco has completed 31 of 38 passes for 524 yards and 4 TDs with just one INT over the past two games. That equates to a pass efficiency rating of 226.9 and a completion percentage of .816. Stocco ranks second in the Big Ten in pass efficiency in conference games (164.2). Stocco has started every game for the Badgers in the last three seasons (31 straight). UW has a 24-7 record in games started by Stocco. The only active QB in the nation with more wins as a starter (since the start of 2004) than Stocco is Boise State’s Jared Zabransky with 26. On the season Stoccot has completed 62% of his attempts for 1196 yards with 8TDs and just 2 INTs. In the last three seasons, while Bret Bielema has been on Wisconsin’s coaching staff, the Badgers have given up fewer than 20 points in a game 17 times. The Badgers are 17-0 in those games. After playing three of its first five games away from home, Wisconsin is playing five of its last seven games at Camp Randall Stadium. The Badgers are 19-4 in their last 23 home games. That includes a 14-1 mark since the start of the 2004 season. They are one of seven teams in the country with one or no home losses over that span. Wisconsin ranks second in the Big Ten and 15th in the country in time of possession, averaging 32:27 per game. On Friday, the UWisconsin will unveil a statue of current UW Director of Athletics Barry Alvarez to honor his many accomplishments during his 16 years as the Badger football coach, so don’t think there won’t be lots of emotion in Madison this weekend. Minnesota is 0-5SU in its last 5 games vs. Wisky, and just 1-4ATS on the ROAD vs. the Badgers. UW has covered 4 in a row! If that isn’t enough for the Gophers to contend with, RB PJ Hill averages 5.7ypc, has 10TDs and 847yards rushing on the season. The Gophers don’t have an easy road in 2006 as they are tied with Florida for the second toughest schedule in Division I. The Gophers’ 12 opponents for 2006 have the second-best cumulative winning percentage (36-18, .666) of any team’s schedule for this season. Only Connecticut’s opponents have a higher win percentage (35-15, .700) than the Gophers. The Gophers six remaining opponents have the highest winning percentage (20-7, .740) of any team’s remaining schedule for the season. Senior quarterback Bryan Cupito has a chance to end his career among the top of several categories in the school record book. He is closing in on 6,000 career passing yards and 400 career completions. He currently ranks third all-time in career passing yardage (5,931), fifth in career passing attempts (719), fourth in completions (398) and second in career TD passes (44). But don’t forget that Badger D that only yields 4.6 yards per pass and just 128 yards per game! If they have trouble throwing they’ll surely try to run, but last week they were held to a team low 68 yards rushing on the season by Penn State! Against similar defenses the Gophers only got 108 vs. Michigan and 109 vs. Cal. They have done all their running against Temple – 282 yards and Purdue – 194 yards. Go with the better rushing offense 187-180, better run D 119-164, better pass D 128-226, and the team that gives up less points per game 12.8-20.8-----and that’s Wisky!

Purdue @ Northwestern

Following a 4-0 start to the 2006 season, Purdue football has lost two straight games to ranked opponents, but coach Joe Tiller and company hope to get back on track this weekend when they travel to Northwestern. Purdue is led by its high-powered offense, a unit that is averaging 465.3 yards (307.0 passing yards per game) and 33.5 points per game. Purdue ranks 6th nationally in total offense, 5th nationally in passing yards and 15th nationally in scoring. All three of those marks lead the Big Ten. Quarterback Curtis Painter has stepped in at rejuvenated Purdue's offense and ranks 4th nationally in total offense (309.2 ypg) and leads the Big Ten in that category. He also leads the conference and ranks 5th nationally in passing yards per game (297.8 pg). Painter has thrown 11 touchdown passes this season, while completing 127 of 220 pass attempts. He threw for 398 yards vs. Notre Dame, 416 vs. Ball State, 254 vs. Iowa, 243 vs. Minnesota, and the low water mark on the season is 208 vs. Miami, OH. WR Dorien Bryant, a second-team All-Big Ten selection a year ago, leads Purdue's deep wide receiving corps, with 36 receptions (13.6 ypc) and 3 TDs. Bryant ranks 22nd nationally in receptions per game and 24th in receiving yards per game. He is one of seven different Purdue players with a touchdown reception in 2006. Dustin Keller has 27 catches for 429 yards and averages 15.9ypc, while Selwyn Lymon has 21 catches for 421 yards and a 20.2ypc average, and Greg Orton has 17 catches for 14.4ypc average and 245 yards and is on the injured list. They are BIG play makers. Purdue's running game is solid, too, averaging 158.3 yards per game. Kory Sheets and Jaycen Taylor have carried most of the rushing load, combining for 752 yards and 11 TD's. Sheets, also has 15 receptions and 2 receiving TD's, and 9 rushing TD's while averaging 73.5 yards on the ground. Talk about protection, the Boilermakers have surrendered merely 4 sacks in 227 passing attempts this season – one every 56.8 attempts. Their average of 0.67 sacks allowed per game is tops in the Big Ten and ranks tied for 6th nationally. Per NCAA rule, one of four sacks allowed was charged on an intentional grounding penalty. The Boilermakers have registered 24 passing plays of 20-plus yards this season – an average of 4.0 per game. Meanwhile, NW will be without the services of their leading rusher, Tyrel Sutton who is out with a concussion. Sutton had 405 yards on the season, and the 2nd and 3rd leading rushers have come from the quarterback position….Mike Kafka has 275 yards and Andrew Brewer 154. Fourth on the list is Terrell Jordan who has just 143 yards and 36 carries. Passing wise Kafka has completed 58% of his passes for 477 yards on the season while Andrew Brewer is 48% for 285 yards….not exactly setting the world on fire on offense this season. In their last two outing vs. Wisconsin and Penn State, the Wildcats scored a total of 16 points losing 41-9 to the Badgers and 33-7 to the Lions. Their anemic offense managed just 14 points against MAC cellar dweller Eastern Michigan and 17 against New Hampshire. On the season NW is averaging just 291 yards of total offense per game / 127 passing and 164 rushing and a meager 14.8ppg while giving up 24.7ppg. Purdue is 4-1ATS on the ROAD vs. NW and 7-2ATS in their last 9 games. The Boilers may give up some points but NW will give up bunches!

Illinois vs. Ohio U

The Illini have shown signs of life lately, partly due to the play of true-freshman quarterback Isaiah "Juice" Williams who has big-play ability. His six touchdown passes this season have been for 76, 69, 69, 53, 35 and 31 yards. The scoring drives have been 1, 1, 3, 4, 5 and 6 plays in length with the longest time elapsed being 2:22. With Williams' TD passes of 76 and 69 yards (against Syracuse) and 69 yards (at Michigan State), he became the first quarterback in ILL history to throw three touchdown passes of more than 65 yards in a career. Illinois is one of two Big Ten teams to boast a pair of career 1,000-yard rushers on its current roster in seniors Pierre Thomas (2,265 career yards) and E.B. Halsey (1,443 career yards). So far Thomas leads the team with 477 yards and a 5.9ypc average, while the “juice” is 2nd with 210 yards, Mendenhall is 3rd with 189 yards and a 5.9ypc average and Halsey 4th with 111 yards and 4.7ypc average. Thomas also has 555 all-purpose yards this season and is 788 yards short of the Illinois career all-purpose yardage record, which is currently held by Robert Holcombe (4,737). In passing “juice” is 41/99 for 739 yards while backup Tim Brasic is 29-51 for 289 yards. The Illini offense has come alive with 426 yards of total offense vs. Indiana, 390 vs. Michigan State, and 315 vs. Iowa since their humbling opening 33-0 opening loss to Rutgers when they gained just 126 yards. On the defensive side, Illinois middle linebacker J Leman ranks second in the Big Ten in tackles with 10.8 per game. He has posted five straight games of 10-plus tackles, including 10 last week vs. Indiana. Ohio back-up quarterback Brad Bower is an Illinois transfer. He has played in five games, completed 12 passes for 126 yards for an 25.2 yard per game average. Starting QB Austen Everson is the team’s second leading rusher with 137 yards and has thrown for 802 yards on 82/140 with 5INTs and just 133ypg passing. The Bobcats are led in rushing by Kalvin McRae with 362 yards and a 4.3ypc average. But, the boys from Athens have been having a tough go at it, averaging just 98 yards per game rushing and 158.5ypg passing. They haven’t been very good and have disappointed lots of preseason voters who tabbed them to finish near the top of the MAC East Division and they find themselves near the bottom. Just don’t think OU can score enough to stay in the game at the end, and they won’t stand up to the constant pounding they’re gonna take upfront from the Illini running game.

Hans, I originally had posted BGSU in that matchup and still think it's a solid play! The Falcons didn't look that bad against OSU and did some really positive things while the EMUs have gotten worse as they season has progressed and we're only half way thru and they are out of the running alread in the MAC. BGSU has to have a renewed sense about them cause Miami,OH has finally awoke from their slumber.
