Hey JohnyMapleLeaf,

Was wondering what Canada has to say as far as internet gambling? Same as the states? Or do they allow off shore gambling? Might have to do some banking up your way now.

Haven't heard any response from the Canadian government, and I don't suspect we will. They are pretty cool about it. There are bigger things to worry about. There is a gambling site that even runs from Canadian soil (on aboriginal reserve) Golden Palace.com and I believe the Canadian goverment lets them run legally, and even TAXES them.

I was thinking....can Americans not just open an account at one of the many large Canadian banks, and deposit from that account? My parents are Canadians living part-time in Texas, and they have bank accounts in both Canada AND the US.

Yea, that is what I was wondering? Meaning if you wanted to today in Canada, could you fund an offshore account via your bank? I am about an hour from the boarder so it would be real easy to open up a checking account in Canada. Just wondering if Canada has any laws against it? I know they could give to craps about a dumb ass U. S. Law.

I suspect that their are tax agreements between the two, but would find it hard to believe that the U.S. could extend its hand over the boarder to find out what and where you are sending your money to. I already found out that U.S. people can open a bank account in Canada, I was just wondering if it was worth it, i.e. if there are any restrictions like the U.S.

No restrictions that I know of, woodfall.

I am a Royal Bank customer, and a Neteller customer....I deposit/withdraw funds to Pinnacle, Bowmans and pokerroom with them with no troubles at all.

The Canadian government also runs their OWN LEGAL sports gambling operation called "proline" where you are able to bet on sports (all except the NBA...it was one of Stern's stipulations when we got the Raptors...no legal gambling). It is run through the government lottery corporation, and you bet on 3-6 game parlays....the government makes millions and millions every year from it. They also have VLT's (casino style Video Lottery Terminals) placed in bars and pubs that they make millions off of drunk people as well.

So if they ever tried do do something like the US just did (they never will) they would look like very big Hypocrites!!

Sweet! Thanks for the info! Think I'll be taking a trip up to Canada here shortly. Canada ROCKS! Went to school at the University of Niagara, used to hit Toronto all the time. I miss living that close, but at least I am close enough to get up there when I can. Thanks for your help!

The main Banks are: ROYAL BANK, CIBC, TD CANADA TRUST and SCOTIABANK.

I personally use both CIBC and TD Canada Trust.

I'm not sure how they deal directly w/ non-Canadian residents though.

Suggest you send an e-mail to customer service on their respective websites and ask. Can't hurt.
