GL to ya this week!! Very sharp card!

Any thoughts about the total for ND/PUR.....I think its sitting around in the low or mid 60's. My opinion the UNDER...just don't think it will be that much. ND with a very emtional win last week. Dont know how much that took out of them. Any thoughts..

Peter....love the Flashes as they have definitely show up on the road, and now they're HOME! Kent has been on the road for 3 straight games, finishing 2-1, losing in OT to Army although the Flashes outstatted the Cadets 295 - 270, it took a QB fumbled snap in the extra period to seal the Flashes fate as Army simply lined up and kicked a FG to win 17-14. KSU's D has been coming on this year and average 3 sacks per game. In their last two games, Kent beat Miami, OH for the first time in ages and backup QB Julian Edleman passed for 244 yards vs. the Redhawks and outgained MUO 386-297, and last week the Flashes outstatted Bowling Green in a stunning 38-3 win @ BGSU (another team they've haven't beaten forever) 357-282 and totaled 216 yards rushing. They've finally found the running game they've been missing since the early 90s. The Flashes are on an upswing and have Temple next week, finally a breather in the schedule because they then get Toledo, OU and Virginia Tech. Akron has been money all year and rank 106th in rushing which is a good thing because KSU is 110th vs. the run giving up 195ypg. So the Zips will do what they've done all season.....PASS. They are 24th in passing offense at 252ypg but that plays to the Flashes strength as they rank 12th in pass defense at 135ypg. The Zips won last week despite getting outgained by North Texas 287-278 as they were recipients of 3 Mean Green TOs. They also outstatted Central Michigan while passing for 375 yards and NCState passing for 267 yards. Just find the Flashes in a good place and Akron dreaming of a matchup with UCinn next week and playing a team-Kent-that they are 8-1SU against in the last 9 meetings, and 4-1ATS @ Dix Stadium in the last 5 games there.

How about them Scarlet Knights who have marked themselves with a bunch of Scarlet Letters so far this season....Rutgers is 4-0, blasting Howard, whipping Illinois 33-0, UNC 21-16, and OhioU 24-7, average 33.5ppg, give up only 7.5ppg, run for 204ypg, pass D has only given up 136ypg and rush D just 69ypg (-6 to OhioU, 48 to Howard, and 66 to Big Ten Illinois). South Florida lost at Kansas last week 13-7 and gave up 391 yards of total offense. Their quality opponents have been McNeese State, Florida Atlantic, and Central Florida....all close games with the exception of the McNeese game, winning 24-17 over UCF and 21-20 over FAU. SoMiss passes for 228ypg but this matchup favors the better D and the better schedule and the team that can run the ball.

joepa66
09-26-2006, 01:08 PM
Northern Illinois has Garrett Wolfe....THE leading NCAA Division I rusher with 96 carries for 828 yards, 8.6ypc and 207ypg! Last week he had 198yds and 4TDs and only played one series in the second half during a 48-14 romp over Indiana State....needless to say, Wolfe also did some romping on that series with a 45 yard TD run! In their 4 games, NIU has totaled 420, 500, 462, and their low water mark for the year coming against Ohio State at 343 yards of offense! Hey, that's not bad....meanwhile Ball State have given up 535, 533, 373 and 435 yards in their games this season, that's 1876 yards or 469ypg to the opposing team. BSU got beat last week by North Dakota State 29-24, and rely strictly on passing. The Cardinals run offense has produce lowly games of 14, 61, 41, and 159 yards this season.....however, they do average 298 yards passing which NIU's achilles heel. But desperate times call for desperate measures which is what happens to teams playing the Huskies....they get behind and throw the ball all over the place. Meanwhile, the BSU D has to dead last in pass defense itself......giving up 326ypg passing! Now that has to leave a bad taste in your mouth! They only yield 69ypg on the ground, but that's becaue teams DON'T HAVE TO RUN against them! In their last two game, BSU has given up 451 and 416 yards passing. Husky QB Phil Horvath may be able to get more attention this week as Wolfe has been stealing the headlines.....Horvath is an efficient 60% passer on 58/98 for 693yards and just 2 INTs.

Strength of schedule favors the Irish here.....as they are 3-1 against Georgia Tech (W14-10), Penn State (W41-17), Michigan (L47-21 and 4 TOs), Michigan State (W40-37). And, Brady Quinn has awoke again.....the Irish have only rushed for 51 combined yards in their last two games but have gotten 560 yards passing from the Dublin Scioto HS Alumni who also led ND to a furious 4th quarter comeback vs. the Spartans. This is not your mother's Boilermakers, at least not until last week. Purdue is 4-0 but against the likes of Indiana State (W60-35), Miami,OH (W38-31 in OT), Ball State (W38-28) and Minnesotate (W27-21)....against that schedule Joe Tiller's D has given up an average of 285ypg passing! Get your arm soaking early Brady (that's 235 to Indy State, 386 to Miami, OH, 291 to BSU and 227 to Minney)! The Boiler have thrown for 294ypg but against much weaker defenses.....and Notre Dame's D yields just 176ypg thru the air. On the ground Purdue will also have a tough time running as the Irish yield just 75ypg rushing. This could be, could be, a blow out as the Irish and Weiss have found their step once again after a halftime challenge vs. Michigan State.

He's officially burning mad after last weeks call on the no-show Boool Shiite Dawgs from JawJuh!

MICHIGAN -9 vs. Minnesota "Definitely"
He likes dem Wolbereenes this week cause they have the #1 rush defense in the land allowing an amazing 0.81ypc and just 18.5ypg, that's 1st in the nation folks! The Maize and Blue also average 4 sacks per game which is 3rd best in the land, and check out these rushing totals but their opponents this season; Wisky 12, ND 4, Central Mich 16, Vandy 42! Michigan has won the stats battle in every game they've played so far, 322-248 vs. Wisky, 340-245 vs. ND, 386-204 vs. CMU, and 381-171 vs. the Mo's. Did you watch their defense come to play in the second half when they had 9 tackles for loss, and Wisky's first 6 drives totaled 18 plays for a net gain of +3 yards and 6 punts. Their average drive started on their own 21 yard line with +4 yards their biggest total yards gained in any one of those drives, and -5 the largest net yards lost on any one of those drives......Minnesota has only won the stats battle twice this year in blowouts Temple 62-0 and Kent 44-0 (and Kent still managed 300 yards of offense and only trailed 17-0 at halftime). The not so golden Gopher D allowed 531 yards of offense to Cal in a loss in Berkeley!

Here's some more hype for the Kent vs. Akron game....

Kent State Hosts Akron in 49th Battle for the Wagon Wheel

KENT, Ohio – Kent State looks to retain its grip on the top spot in the Mid-American Conference when it hosts crosstown rival Akron, Saturday, Sept. 30, at Dix Stadium, in the 49th annual Battle for the Wagon Wheel. Kickoff is 2 p.m. for the MAC TV Game of the Week. The Golden Flashes have won two consecutive conference road games to vault to the top of the MAC standings, including snapping an 18-game losing streak at Bowling Green last week.

FLASH FACTS

• Senior wideout Najah Pruden is 10th in the nation in receiving yards per game, averaging 96.5 yards per contest.
• KSU’s pass defense is 12th in the nation.
• Kent State notched its first win at Bowling Green since Oct. 14, 1972... The Golden Flashes snapped an 18-game losing streak at Perry Stadium, and it is KSU’s fourth win against Bowling Green since 1974.
• In consecutive weeks, the Golden Flashes have now won at Miami and at Bowling Green, two venues where Kent State had a combined 12 wins in 72 games all-time coming into this season.
• The 35-point margin of victory is Kent State’s largest road win since a 51-16 victory at Toledo, Nov. 17, 1973.

• The Kent State offense did not commit a turnover for the first time since playing Eastern Michigan on Nov. 13, 2004.
• The Golden Flashes forced six turnovers, including four in the fourth quarter of play.
• Kent State did not allow a touchdown in a game for the first time since Oct. 22, 1994 against Ohio.

About The Wagon Wheel...

According to legend, the “Wagon Wheel” came into being in the spring of 1870 when John R. Buchtel, an Akron industrialist, at the insistence of Rev. Andrew Willson of the Kent Universalist Church, set out for Kent in search of a site for a proposed college. However, his wagon became bogged down in the mud where Kent State University is currently located, the horses broke away and left bits and pieces of the carriage scattered, including one of the wheels, which remained wedged in the mud.
Buchtel eventually found his way back to Akron, where he settled on a site for Buchtel College, the forerunner of the present university.
During construction of a pipeline along the Western Reserve Trail in 1902, the wheel was discovered and eventually became the property of Dr. Raymond Manchester, who in 1945 as the KSU Dean of Men, suggested the wheel be set up as an award to the winner of the Akron-Kent football game.
Manchester had the wheel painted blue and gold, the school colors of both schools, and it has been a prized trophy ever since. Each spoke bears a plaque verifying the score of each game.
In 1946, Kent State defeated the Zips, 13-6, to capture the Wagon Wheel Trophy. After a Kent win in 1954, the series between the two schools went into hibernation. Not until Sept. 9, 1972, was the series revived. In that game, played at the Rubber Bowl, 25,131 fans saw UA grab a 13-0 lead, but KSU battled back to score 13 fourth-quarter points, and the contest ended in a tie. Akron was then awarded custodial rights for a two-year period for its first possession of the prized trophy since its inception. However, in 1979, UA earned the honor of possessing the Wagon Wheel when it edged the Flashes, 15-13. Since then, the two adversaries have traded the trophy back and forth.
The Zips have outscored Kent State by a 320-174 margin over the last nine seasons and have won eight of those contests, with the Golden Flashes snapping a six-game losing streak with a 41-38 win at the Rubber Bowl in 2003. The Zips downed KSU, 35-3, last year with Akron clinching the MAC East Division in snowy and frigid conditions.

ZIP FACTS

• Akron currently ranks 66th nationally (fifth in the MAC) in total offense (330.0 ypg). Last season, Akron ranked 54th nationally (seventh in the MAC) in total offense (384.3 ypg). The Zips passing offense has generated 251.8 yards per game, which is second in the MAC and 24th nationally.
• QB Luke Getsy, a consensus preseason first-team All-MAC selection, ranks tied for 36th nationally (second in the MAC) in total offense (222.5 ypg). Getsy, named to the Davey O’Brien Award watch list prior to the start of the season, is also ranked 24th nationally in completions (18.25 pg). He completed 14 of 20 passes for 173 yards and three TDs vs. North Texas.
• Junior RB Andre Walker, a high school running back who played DB in his first two seasons with the Zips, stepped into the spotlight with a career-high 80 yards and two touchdowns against North Texas (Sept. 23). The opportunity presented itself after a pair of injuries to the Zips backfield.
• Junior Jabari Arthur is Zips the No. 1 wide receiver, and is averaging 64.2 yards per game (tied for 63rd nationally). Arthur snagged three balls for 21 yards against North Texas (Sept. 23) to surpass 1,000 career yards (1,009 yards in 2-plus seasons).
• Freshman WR David Harvey has emerged as a go-to option. He has caught just 13 passes, but is averaging 79.2 receiving yards per game, which ranks 31st nationally and second among freshmen.
• The Zips are 77.8 percent (7 of 9) in fourth-down efficiency, which ranks tied for 24th nationally.
• The Zips are averaging 32:54 in time of possession, 14th-best nationally.

Thanks Katidy and BObro....let's cash 'em all this weekend:yeah:

Ming....how 'bout we start a dynasty with the man's cash this weekend...LMAO Gotta love the Flashes, it's been a hard road and it's just gets tougher and I have found them to have not backed down so far! A win over the Zips would certainly do them good. Even Phil Steele believes in them, he picked them to win the MAC East Division! I still feel that OU will be a big factor in the East, but let's see how they do against BGSU this weekend and how Kent fairs against Akron. Thanks for the props bro...

And check this out:

Kent had 357 total yards vs. BGSU (Flashes ran for 216)
Wisconsin had 321 total yards vs. BGSU (Badgers ran for 197)

Kent had 386 total yards vs. Miami,OH (2nd highest given up by Redhawks)
Purdue had 391 total yards vs. Miami, OH
