View Full Version : Miami @ Pittsburgh poll

I'm going to take this polling thing a step further. Usually people just make a poll on "what is the strongest play" or whatever, but I have decided to try it this way, with a few more options.
So with that being said, go ahead and vote, or leave your opinions in this thread, or whatever. Obviously the poll doesn't even close to include every possible option as to why one would play on either team tonight, but I figured these were probably some of the most likely reasons people will use.
Everyone is welcome to speak your mind

I went back and forth a bunch on this..i think miami should be good enough to challenge for their division..but in the end i think culpepper will need a week or two, and the steelers just wont lose at home to start the season..
I have been going over this all day......
Culpepper Vs. Batch - I take Culpepper
Ronnie Brown Vs. Parker - I take Brown
Chris Chambers Vs. Hines Ward - I take Chambers
Marty Booker Vs. Cedrick Wilson - Push I guess
Randy McMichael Vs. Heath Miller - Lean McMichael
Offensive Lines both look good
Defenses both look good
Wes Welker is a good returner
Pittsburgh lost Randle-El
Sabin Vs. Cowher - Lean Cowher I guess. Sabin is damn good though.
I really think that maybe Miam IS the better team. BUT they are playing on the road.
I still don't even know if I am going to play the game yet.

That is obviously very much up to each persons opinion....as I disagree with most. I would take Parker, MVP Ward, Miller, Pitt O-line, and especcially the Pitt Defence. Randle-el touched the ball sparingly. Cowher has the experience.

Pittsburg is the better team with or without Batch (or with or without Big Ben)

I honestly don't think it's wise to play on Miami just because Big Ben is out.....Batch started two games last year & won both by 10+. That would be because he just has to manage, the D is there & the line is pretty solid. Just because they may have the better player at a certain position(s) does not make the Fins a good play. Not sold on Miami in the least-sure they won the last 6 games last year, but I would say there was only 1 quality win (at San Diego). The win against the Pats week 17 was a meaningless game for NE, & the other 4 wins were vs Oak, Buf, NYJ, & Tenn, not exactly top tier teams.....Pitt run defense @ home (#3 in the league 2005) should play solid. I like them to be all over Ronnie Brown too, look at his stats vs the top teams vs the run last year.
San Diego #1 vs the run & he avg 2.7 yds per
Denver #2- 2.6 yds per carry
Tampa #6- 2.4 yds per carry
The Miami line is suspect-Benny Anderson @ RG???? As a Bills fan (Stif back me up) we know how terrible Benny was....

Just for interest who did Batch go 2-0 against?
That could be a hell of a difference.

I agree with the foreskin fan, Miami's O-line is transparent.

If I play this game it will be Miami. I watched Batch play for years and I couldn't possibly put money on him.

By the looks of the poll, you're the only 1 that thinks that...
Batch plays an error free game, easy pitt win... IMO

what everyone seems to forget is how bad Culpepper looked last year BEFORE the sex boat scandal, and the torn up knee.
I know this almost intimately from a statistical standpoint because I drafted Culpepper in my fantasy football league and he single handely derailed my season. He was atrocious, and I point the finger at the fact that he didnt have Randy Moss.
Chambers is a good WR but he is not Randy Moss. So yes Culpepper may return to his all-pro form of 2 years ago, but as for now I still see him as the same suckass QB from last year, only now with more limited mobility from that knee injury.
I dont have much faith in Charlie Batch by any means, but the Pitt secondary I think will be strong enough to force Culpepper into a couple picks that will make the diff in the game.
Also all of a sudden that front 7 of the Miami D looks very old to me.
just my three cents

Miami IMO is very overrated for a few reasons:
1- Everyone assumes Culpepper will be great again (HUGE assumption)
2- They won 6 games in a row to end the season (it's a new season)
3- Saban factor (I'll agree he's damn good)
4- Chambers is the next "Randy Moss" (clearly, he's not... he's got the "dropsies")
5- Ronnie Brown is gonna be a stud (prove it to me, you couldn't even start over Cadillac in college)
6- The defense is outstanding (the defense is OLD and SLOW... IMO)
Last year's trendy AFC Super Bowl pick (NY Jets) worked out great didn't they? I'm not saying the Dolphins will be bad, but people are getting out of hand with how "good" they are (or going to be).... IMO.

PS Oh yea, Olindo Mare stinks too... Don't forget that.

I see where everyone is coming from on Miami but Miami is a well coached team like Pittsburgh and from what I saw this preseason, Culpepper has looked very good....so how can everyone say hes not going to win this game for him. He was on aViking team with constant problems, he has a team that can win big now, he has a reason to play. Good luck tonight....I just see it on Miami's side tonight

If I remember correctly, Sir Daunte the Great was on that boat aswell.... I also don't think preseason football means a ounce of crap. LaDainina Tomlinson has less than 10 carries in 4 years of preseason football. Preseason means nothing....

Great thread so far guys
I think we should do this for more games, college and NFL...and particularly ones played during the week when there's only a game or two being played, and more people get a chance to concentrate on the same game.
It's always nice to see what we can come up with about games from those on both sides.
I personally like Pittsburgh....and will probably make a play on em before long. I was hoping to get a little better ML, but it seems it's moving back towards them being favored again, so I'll probably lay the -1 instead.
I actually have more doubts about Culpepper than Batch as far as the QB's go. Like was mentioned already, Culpepper was complete garbage last year BEFORE the injury, and now with him being less mobile, I just have to question how effective he will be in the first one that "counts" since his return, and in a very hostile environment and against a very good defense.
I think as always with Pittsburgh, the points will come one in way or another....and I'm just not as confident that Miami will have the same success.
Of course I could be completely wrong, but I have a hard time not playing on a game like this.....where I feel the better team is a pick em, at home, simply because their QB is out. With the way the Steelers play, I just don't know that I could say Ben is worth 4.5 points by himself, and Pittsburgh was favored by -4.5 when the line opened, back when it was assumed he was playing.

Im taking Pittsburgh because Taylor is divorcing Zach's sister. From this I can deduce that Taylor and Zach wont play well together, Taylor is prolly not getting laid, and if he is it is prolly with a toothless south beacher and the rash will be causing him problems all night. Zach on the other hand is pissed at losing his friend, bro inlaw and now feels he should trow his teammate under the bus. So to summarize ther will be way to much draaama for AS Miami's World Turns for them to win this one. :gulp:

My lean is to the Dolphins right now. I see people over-rating Batch. He threw for 65 yards and 150 yards in the 2 games he started. This guy is way past being a capable backup. The defense is what won both those games in which Batch started last season. The Steelers are going to have to run the ball and they can do that but come 3rd and 5 or more it is going to be tough. Willie Parker better be able to carry the ball 30 times today. He only carried the ball over 20 times 5 times last year. The Dolphins are going to be ready for the run. On offense I expect a lot of short dump offs to Ronnie Brown to start off and a few hand offs to get Culpepper going. I think they will be able to move the ball. As long as they can pick up the Steeler blitz the offense should be able to move the ball.
Im leaning towards the Dolphins....what ya think?

Im basing my decision solely on an interview I saw with Hines Ward. He sounded very confident and expected to win. There was just something about it that gave me confidence. I still wont bet very much but I like Pitt and their home field advantage.

You hit the nail on the damn head....One of the basic rules of betting is to not bet because of an injury to a WR,RB,QB UNLESS (and that is a big UNLESS) it creates a real advantage/disadvantage. In this game, it truly doesn't create a disadvantage unless Miami gets up early by 14 points. Now if there were injuries to the O-L or D-L that mattered in the match ups, that would be different.
Excellent.

Don't forget all the times he put the ball on the ground too.....he did more than his share of that last season as well.
Just can't back Culpepper on the road.....Geez, it sounds like I'm making a baseball play, LOL....but really, i just could see him blowing the game if it's close.

LOL yeh sounds about right, all i remember was a 1-3 start in fantasy football, losing by 10 or less points in each game because this asswipe got me negative points instead of amounting to something.
