I am not sold that ND is "overrated" as some national press has been quoted on. In fact, I think they are the most balanced football team in the country. People don't realize that they went into Atlanta on the 1st week of the season and beat a very solid Georgia Technical Institute team. I don't care what anyone says, but when you go into a quality opponents "house" and beat them on ABC's national TV broadcast (under the lights) you are not overrated. Not at the college level... Most of you, as I predicate my picks on how teams can perform in a hostile environment, namely on the road...that's the biggest key for me when handicapping these college games...where's the game at...I knew that Tennessee would beat Cal as the trend has held for the past years ie. Michigan traveling to UCLA a few years back...You know that the travel on these teams is very difficult...So the moral of the story is that ND is quality while Anthony Morelli is young and has not been battle tested and will have a very and I mean very tough time in South Bend, IN

Prediction:

ND not only covers the 8 point spread, but wins by 2 TD's or more.

Be easy from the 305

Hank

Not at the College level?? what is that suppose to mean?? College football is one of the most non-parity sports. As for notre dame being overrated the arent, they are OVERRATED in caps and here is why:

You are the number #2 team in the nation
You have possibly the best QB in the nation
YOu have a NFL mastermind in the sideline in Weiss

and only could squeek by 14 pts???

Is GT a bad team, not at all, they are a good football team but when your team is considered a nation championship team you do not play to the level of a team not even ranked in the top 30 and thats where the overrated is coming from. NDame will not be in the national chamionship game.. BUt overrated they are

i think notre dame comes out looking a lot better than last week. they may have been looking ahead to this game and figured they would roll over GT. i believe notre dame comes out and plays a lot better this week. havnt taken them yet but i like for them to look much better on offense this game. H-M H-A, you are right on the $$$!!!
ND failed to live up to the hype.
Paterno has huge confidence in QB, they will make improvements on OL, RB Hunt could have a huge day and D is one of the best in the country, BETTER THAN GT.
Weis is turning to true frosh, trying to find speed and talent.

PSU wins this game SU

I guess we will all find out after this Saturday, if N.D. is overrated or not. Although GT is not ranked, they have always played tough at home. If N.D. struggles again this weekend, they will move down the ranking.

I have no doubts about the ND offense being one of the best in the nation....but what I do wonder about is that putrid Irish defense from a year ago. GT doesn't exactly have what I'd consider a "high powered" offense. Yea, Ball is ok when he's not screwing up, and that receiver whose name is slipping my mind right now is amazing, but otherwise, they're average.

So are the golden domers that much improved over the unit that got steamrolled by Ohio St in the bowl game last year to even put any sort of real pressure on Morelli and co? Can a defense go from shit to great from one year to the next? I suppose it's possible, but I for one need to see it before I believe it.

Looks like a classic no play here. Too many question marks for both sides.

I'm not a ND fan, but I am trying to prove a point.

Why did arguably the best college football team ever only beat BC by 11 and V-Tech by 2?? This stuff happens every year man. Teams will play to the level of their opponents at times, but for big games they rise up. If Penn St. can go into ND and beat them then I will eat my words, but until then i'm stickin to my guns...ND rolls

lol you still dont get the point guy, BC is a nationally ranked program almost every year and VTECH has been ranked as high as #3 since 1998. GTech is NOT ranked, a ranked team in #2 vs a nonranked team and put up 14 pts and win barely is unacceptable for a #2 team and thus they were bumped from #2 cause they are not worthy. Am i saying they will lose to Penn state, no i did not, i am just judging the first game and i see them losing 2 games this season (Mich st, USC)

The Lastest i heard on austin scott is that he isnt going to be playing unless they need him. But he is a real good player but there saying he is hurt but watch for Paterno to pull a trick up his sleeve and use Scott in a double tailback set with Scott and Hunt but if Scott does not play this week watch for him to be redshirting.

What I do not understand is this...

What has Notre Dame done to earn all this hype? Nothing. Zero. Their defense stank last year, and GT doesn't have enough offense to expose it, so we don't know if they've even improved at all.

What makes them a not a very good team, which I think no one would disagree with, but instead a great team? A championship caliber team?

Media hype and a 14-10 win over Georgia Tech? Cause that's about all they've got on their side so far.

Hiring a well recognized NFL name and having a high powered offense will do that for ya though. Everyone loves offense and a guy who was on a bunch of super bowl winning coaching staffs.

Again, I'm not saying you're wrong, but let them show me something first before I go crowning them national champions.

I seem to remember hearing all of this ND hype last year before their bowl game too, and they got wiped out by Ohio St, so I'm naturally a little hesitant to believe the hype.

I agree with Stif... Tough game . . Penn St can score with ND for sure and they got great receivers. WILLIAMS IS A SPECIAL PLAYER, and Norwood is real good. I don't think Penn St's D is that great this year though. They lost alot in the secondary and Tamba Hali was a HUGE LOSS.. . IMO last week was a HUMBLE YOURSELF type win for ND. Workman like victory. I'm staying away ...

Thank you, thank you, thank you!
You are right on the money about Notre Dame!
While most of the Top 20 feasted on the Little Sisters of the Poor, ND was the only team to play a quality opponent off the bat on their turf in front of 76,000 Jacket fans painted yellow & black. How fast people forget that GT beat AUBURN & MIAMI last year with that defense.
The line is ND-8 for a reason. Vegas knows what Hank does- ND is not overated with all those starters back on ")" and "D"- the Irish roll!

CW is crazy like a fox. Keep doubting them, keep calling them overrated! ND is one of the only teams (except for a small handful) that had the balls to play a tough first game. Michigan and MSU spend the first 2 games playing the ridge high girls academy(and they still struggle). I would have liked to see all these "good" schools play GT on the road in game 1. ND defense is faster and Charlie will deliver the 12th title within the next 3 years, count on it!! Great games coming Saturday. Good luck to all.

Again, I am not going to agree or condemn Notre Dame, or disagree with anyone's opinion about how good they might be, but the fact that the line is -8 has very little to do with the teams playing the game, or how good they are, nor is it an indication that "Notre Dame will roll".

The sole purpose of the line is to get action on both sides. Would many people would take Penn St at like +3 or +4? Of course not. This line has to be at least -7, or they're gonna take a huge overload on Notre Dame. The public loves Notre Dame to begin with, and always has, and with the way they've been hyped as the best thing since the invention of the wheel this year, there's no way they get anything near even action at anything less.

It's that simple to figure out why the line is what it is. It's our job to figure out if it's a good line, or a bad line, and in who's favor....which is very hard to accurately do here if you ask me. Just not enough evidence for either side, good or bad.
