Hey everybody...here are are 3 early weekend plays to hopefully get this CF season off to a good start!

USC -6.5 at MSU -- 1 Unit -- Mississippi State's offense last year was, well...offensive. What did they do to upgrade? They sent the best player on the offense, Jerious Norwood, to the Atlanta Falcons. MSU has a pretty tough defense, but their strength is against the run. Many are pointing to USC's 1st game struggle with Central Florida last year when picking this game, but I'm going to have to say that Spurrier finds a way to win this one by at least a touchdown.

USC -.5 at MSU
Minnesota -8.5
6.5 Point Teaser -- 1 Unit -- Taking our game from above and putting it with Minnesota's opener at Kent State. I'm afraid of this game SU because of questions about Minnesota's offense, but KSU was the worst team in the MAC last season and the same main cast of characters return for this season. KSU has a new mobile JUCO transfer QB, but he apparently will at least start the season behind 2005 starter Michael Machen, who was less than effective. Minnesota has been weak in the past vs. the pass, which KSU will do plenty of, but sheer talent should made the teaser total attainable.

Northwestern -3 at Miami(OH)
Fresno St. -12 vs. Nevada
Parlay -- 1 Unit -- I'm pretty confident about this Fresno St. pick, but I can't say the same for the Northwestern game. I guess I would say I'm going on emotion in that one. If you would like to pick one game or the other to take straight up, put your pick on Fresno St. Last season, Nevada clipped Fresno 38-35 the week after the Bulldogs came within a hair of beating Southern California. There will be no such emotional letdown in this opener, so expect FSU to take care of business.

Whew! That USC-MSU game gave reasons for major worries early, but my prediction on the MSU offense held up. All in all, not a bad way to start out the year.
