Florida International +9.5 (-110)
FIU returns QB Josh Padrick, RB Amod Ned, WR Chandler Williams, and TE Samuel Smith from last years team that won 4 of its final 5 games and averaged 39 points in those wins. MTSU returns experienced QB Clint Marks, but their WR corps is inexperienced and full of question marks. New head coach Rick Stockstill is looking to recommit the team to the running game. FIU returns 6 starters and a handful of experienced backups that, during their 4 final victories last year, held their opponent to an average of 2.1 yards per carry on the ground. 9.5 is a lot of points for these two teams, and FIU should have enough firepower to keep this one close, or even sneak away with a road victory.

UTEP +2.5 (-110)
UTEP returns 19 starters from last years 8-4 team. Other than last years stumble at the end of the year, Mike Price has got this team turned around and headed in the right direction. SDST's defense will be tough tonight, but UTEP has enough firepower to get the win tonight.... and challenge for the Conf USA championship this year.

Nevada +12.5 (-110)
Nevada returns most of its high powered offense from last year (40.6 points per game their last 5). They have to replace their top RB, but Robert Hubbard is back, and Luke Lippincott has reportedly looked real good in Spring practice. Senior QB Jeff Rowe is back after throwing for 3000 yards last year, as are senior WRs Caleb Spencer and Kyle Sammons. Fresno State also has a high powered offense, and has shown they can hang with anybody in the country. But they may struggle early on, having to replace Paul Pinegar and Wendal Mathis. Fresno's main strength is offensive line, and I see them trying to contol the ball on the ground to keep Nevada's offense off of the field. I see a tight game decided by single digits, and I would not be overly surprised to see Nevada pull off the upset tonight.

Hawaii +15.5 (-105)
This game scares me, given Hawaii's historic struggles when they play in the continental US. That being said, the Warriors are loaded offensively this year. Colt Brennan returns at QB after throwing for 4300 yards and 35 TDs last year, along with 4 starting wide receivers. The Tide should win this game, but they're going to have to do it on the ground. They are replacing Croyle and have a questionable offensive line. Defensively, they are replacing 7 starters, including 1 corner and both safeties.... Hawaii will have the ability to put up plenty of points and keep this game close.
Florida Atlantic/Clemson Over 44.5 (-105)
Although Clemson is breaking in a new quarterback, they return just about everyone else. After this cupcake, Clemson goes on the road to BC and Florida State... so I expect Tommy Bowden to be very agressive offensively to help break in his new QB. Florida Atlantic was horrible defensively last year, giving up boatloads of points. I see Clemson covering the over by themselves.

Idaho/Michigan State Over 59 (-110)
I'm a little nervous playing an over on such a high number with the new clock rules this year... but I have to give this one a shot. Idaho brings in new head coach Dennis Erickson, and he has 10 returning starters on an offense that averaged 32 points per game in their final four last year. Idaho's defense allowed 40 points per game last year, and they are going up against a very high powered offense in Michigan State. Drew Stanton returns with weapons at WR, and should be able to put up at least 40 against Idaho. In addition, State's defense was atrocious last year, and Idaho should be able to sneak in a few touchdowns of their own.

UAB/Oklahoma Over 41.5 (-110)
I could be setting myself up for failure, with yet another Over wager. But Oklahoma is another team I feel can cover the total themselves. With the offseason Rhett Bomar distractions, I see Oklahoma coming out and making a statement game tonight behind a heisman-caliber performance from Adrian Peterson.

Tennessee +3 (-110)
Seems to be an unpopular pick, but this isn't last year. Tennessee is ready for a fresh start, and still fields a very talented team. There's going to be 105,000 screaming fans at Neyland Stadium, which is a very hard place for anyone to come in and get a road win.

Virginia +4 (-110)
I think Groh goes back to the power running game this year, with a very talented (although inexperienced) offensive line and two quality running backs. I think the cavs dominate the ground game and I see a close, low scoring UVA victory... but i'll take the points.

Ole Miss -3.5 (-110)
A little nervous with this pick, being that its a huge public play (supposedly). That being said, Ole Miss starts a new era today with Brent Schaeffer at QB. For those of you who don't remember: This is the kid that played at Tennessee a couple of years ago and was referred to as mini-Vick. An injury and a juco transfer later, the kid represents a serious upgrade for Ole Miss.
