View Full Version : Pirates....

I've seen alot of talk today about Pittsburgh having nothing left after getting rid of Casey, Wilson, and a few relievers.

As someone who (sadly) follows the Pirates, sorta closely, I wanted to give my opinion on the subject....but didn't want to do it in anyone's else's thread, as to seem like I was putting down their picks or opinions....cause that's not what I'm trying to do....just to point out what I have seen this year with the Pirates, and how these trades will effect their offense.

First off, I have to say that Craig Wilson SUCKS....ESPECIALLY in any type of clutch situation. He has done about zero for the Pirates this year except strike out every time he comes up with men on base....and hit an unimportant home run every now and then in blowout games. This clown has nothing to do with the success of the Pirates, and his loss is not going to hurt their offense.

While I do think Casey is a very good player...and his loss will be felt, he is still only one player...and just a good player...not a great one. It's not like they lost a Pujols or Andruw Jones type here.

The offensive guys who have been carrying the team to what little they have accomplished this season are guys like Freddy Sanchez, Jack Wilson (not to be confused with shitty Craig Wilson), Jason Bay (when he's actually not slumping), and even Ronny Paulino, Jose Castillo, etc....much more so than a joker like Hollywood Craig Wilson with his flowing blond locks.

Believe me when I tell ya, losing Craig Wilson will not impact the Pirates, and will probably make them better. He'll just be excess baggage on an already loaded Yankees team....and why they even wanted him, especially when you consider what they already have, I have no idea.

Any AAA replacement will do in Wilson's spot....and whoever they put in there....if he has any speed, and can get on base sometimes, he will improve their lineup.

Oh yea....I guess they did pick up Nady from the Mets now that I think about it.

That's a hell of an improvement over Wilson.

either way its not like they will lose EVERY game the rest of the season, will still be looking at them with their huge prices.

me thinks they will continue to have value rest of the season. I have had moderate success betting on them when I like them to win.

I agree. The Pirates are far from a great team, but they do play tough at home, and have a ton of one run losses....which indicates they are almost always in the game.

And it's not like the guys on the team are thinking "Shit, we got rid of Casey and Wilson, we must be throwing in the towel"

Their towel was thrown in months ago, lol

I look for the same effort from the guys they still have, and for the trades to not adversely affect them at all really.
