New month, hopefully better result then last night. Would have been a nice winning night if it had not been for Carmona. I will never again bet on Paul Byrd. Can't blame the offense for last nights loss. No matter, we'll make this day a winner.
Honestly, nothing really jumps out at me today. Today might be tough but we'll see what we can do.
Oakland Athletics (EVEN) vs. Los Angeles Angels (-120)
Last night's game was definately a playoff caliber game. Can't blame Santana for the loss, he pitched his butt off. He was left in too long IMO. Anything past 110 pitches and your asking for trouble. On to tonights game...I just don't see the Angels dropping two in a row at home to the A's. The Angels have battled back too hard to let the division slip away now. The A's have never seen the rookie Saunders before, and Blanton just can't seem to beat the Angels. I like the Angels to bounce back tonight. Give me the Angels on the moneyline.
New York Mets (-110) vs. Florida Marlins (-110)
I was in Atlanta to watch the Mets destroy the Braves in a 3 game series last weekend, and as impressive as they were, I don't think it was the Mets being good as much as it was the Braves pitching being awful. The Mets made several errors, and Wright looked very shaky at 3rd. There offense was good enough that it didnt matter but in close games, those things mean winning or losing. I think this is a serious trap game for them, as they'll be riding high after the series with the Braves. Olsen has been one of the best pitchers in the league the second half and I look for that to continue. I'll take the surprising Marlins at home, on the moneyline.
Atlanta Braves (-160) vs. Pittsburgh Pirates (+140)
This will be a trendy underdog pick I'm sure. As much as I hate to bet against my teams, I have to here. Smoltz has not pitched well enough at all for the Braves to be this big of a favorite. The Pirates are very tough at home...and with the addition of Xavier Nady, they only get better. Even if Smoltz does pitch a strong 7 innings, there bullpen is terrible. Recent additions of Wickman (who nearly gives me a heart attack every time he pitches), and Baez should help, but not nearly enough to make one last push to the wildcard. This is the beginning of the end for the Braves. Pirates on the moneyline, at home.
Texas Rangers (+108) vs. Minnesota Twins (-128)
I wish the Twins would have saved some offense for tonight. It makes me nervous to bet on a team to win after they crush the opposing team the night before, but honestly, the Twins are so redicously hot right now, especially at home, I feel very confident in this pick. Neither pitcher has ever faced the opposing team so we'll call that a draw. Texas offense has just been scuffling lately. And I mean really struggling. They were dominated by Carlos Silva if that gives you an idea of how bad of a funk there in a right now. Baker just needs to give them 5 or 6 innings of decent pitching for the Twins to get the win IMO. Eaton has only made one start this year, and I look for him to still be shaking the rust off, and not be too sharp tonight. Twins at home, on the moneyline.
That's it for tonight. Hopefully we get this month started out on the right foot. Good luck to everyone!
