Hello all. I've recently purchased a book about handicapping, which explains in detail the important factors and such. Long story short, I'm learning how to become a handicapper. The question I have is, what is the preferred method to go about betting on a daily basis? I went and bought a Daily Racing Form so as to study the horses and races, but there aren't odds. Are the odds released in the morning? And if so, where is the best place to get them? I know the OTB channel has them up all day, but they show a bunch of different tracks and a bunch of different races. It's sort of tough to follow. What is your daily routine? Thanks for any help.

i play the ponies very often and they are my favorite thing to bet.

go to drf.com and there you will get all you need.

good horse cappers don't need lines they play off the odds before the race, or at least that's what i do.

if you are a beginner start with win, place, show betting then progress to the tri's, pk3's, ex's and what not. betting WPS will make you some money but in the long run it's all about playing the odds with over's and under's. it takes me about 10mins to figure out what i want to do and i don't ever place a bet with more than 10 min to post time. b/c of the odds.

the 3 main factors i look at when trying to capp a race are.

1.) Race Pace, for example i look at each horse and visualize how i see them running. are they a front runner or closer?

2.) Consistency, at the particular track, at the distance and with the trainer and jockey and time of year.

3.) Race Times, for example if a horse has only run a 6f in 1:13 and has many tries at that distance than he more than likely won't run a 1:09ish or lower. quality of the horse.

overrated factor's-

1.) Breeding
2.) Trainer Jockey combo
3.) weather

this is how i do it and it works for me but might not for some. it's just how serious one is about learning the sport

good luck to you and start off slow,
