You want to know something weird. I had my dad sit down at the computer and do this test. He's a smart man. Chemical Engineer. Good with science and numbers. Yes Im bragging on him. LOL But really. He got all 3 the same.

7 carrot and red and hammer. He said strange. Very strange and walked away from the computer shaking his head. LOL

My explanation is this:

People come up with 7 because 12-5 = 7. They see "12 and 5" and the next thing that pops into their head is 7, as if they were doing subtraction. That one is easy.

Carrot probably comes about for most because it is just simply the first veggie that would pop into most people's minds when the are asked to think of a veggie, no matter what they were reading or thinking beforehand. Shit, after carrot, I'd actually have to THINK to come up with a 2nd veggie.

Red is a bright and popular color, and I think alot of people associate the words color and red together, even if only subconsciously. Hammer is probably the most popular household tool....that and probably a screwdriver, and hammer is simpler and seems to be more likely to pop into your mind.

But who knows. Interesting though.

I think the second test you have the number six stuck in your head and you think of a six letter veggie. (there are not many common veggies with 6 letters)

The third test you have the number 3 stuck in your head and you think red (3 letter color) and the 3's that are lined up look like nails.

The first (I agree) is due to subtraction.

A couple months ago I was at work and this lady co-worker of mine came up to me...


she says "Okay Ed, what's 1+5?"

I say "6"

she says "what's 3+3?"

I say "6"

she says "what's 4+2?"

I say "6"

she says "okay now think of a vegetable"

I say "uh..carrot?"

she starts laughing and says "i just did that to 4 different people and you all said carrot"





her explanation was that the word "six" sounds like the word "sex" and that's why I said carrot



so supposedly sex and carrots are somehow related I guess?



I think if you asked somebody to name a vegetable off the top of their head they would say carrot, regardless of what you were talking about right before that, but that's just my opinion....hmmm:confused:
