Esteban Loaiza was arrested for reckless driving and Driving Under The Influence at 3:30 am Wednesday morning, driving his ferrari in excess of 120 MPH.
He spent the night in North County Jail.
The A's have no plans of naming another starter, he is scheduled to start.

Anyone that criticized Ben Roethlisberger for riding a motorcycle.... and doesn't jump all over this one and rip Loaiza to pieces... is absolutely clueless.
Not only did Loaiza put himself in danger... he put the lives of other people in danger getting behind the wheel drunk and driving at speeds of 120 MPH.
That is irresponsible, not acceptable.
I can't believe he is making a start today.
I know some that have been suspended from their jobs for a period of time with far less reckless behavior concerning a DUI than that.

I say who cares what Ben does or did. He's the one who has to live with the consequences, and he's a grown man who can decide for himself if he wants to ride a motorcycle or not, and knows the possible consequences of doing so.
Loaiza on the other hand is a different story. Just got home from work and this is the first I heard of this....but it sounds pretty freakin dumb to me.
I was probably gonna play Seattle anyway....this just gives me more reason to do so.
Great job pointing this out

I couldn't agree anymore Stif.
I listen to Sports Radio all day pretty much, don't watch much else besides sports.... and I hear Bradshaw and some other guys saying how he hurt his team, put his teammates at risk for this...
god that bothers me. That couldn't be farther from the truth.
I just hope the same sports talk figures, analysts... people who get paid to analyze sports..... any of them that took the time to criticize Roethlisberger for his interest in riding motorcycles.... they better rip Loaiza to shit or else they are gutless, hypocritical, and only looking for ratings talking about the big names like Roethlisberger. I'd have no respect.

I think I will play him this afternoon I see great value here!!!

Been working in the yard the past week, getting it ready for a party! Hmmmmmm Ben was drinking when he was on his moto? You lost me........ Did Washburn at least have on a racing helmet when he got pulled over??? Because as long as he is drinking and using safty well than its okay in my book!!!!

Washburn wasn't didn't get pulled over, it was Loaiza, lol.
I highly doubt most people even know about this. I wouldn't have if I didn't read it here.
Oakland hitting like .215 against lefties at home to begin with, and I don't see how Loaiza can have his head in the game after last night.
Had to go with Seattle....and if it loses, then it loses.

Seattle has lost 8 straight to the A's.
Also, who knows if he was trashed or barely over the legal limit? He'll probably throw a 4 hitter or something. Betting Seattle simply because Loaiza got arrested last night is not very smart IMO.

What?? lol Are you drinking right now? lol
I don't even know where to begin to counter with what you just said. lol
and it's Loaiza, not Washburn. lol

Well of course not.
But if I'm betting on a team, I kind of want to know if the teams starting pitcher that I'm betting on, spent the night in a drunk tank.

Seattle has lost 8 straight to the A's.
If anyone bet against Seattle just because of this, it would be just as dumb as betting against Oakland because Loaiza was playing card games with Bubba all night.

No shit. I agree whole-heartedly. Seattle has lost 8 straight to just about everyone until this year anyway. They sucked ass the last 2 years, and the first month and a half of this season, lol
Personally....I didn't bet on Seattle JUST because Loaiza was trashed and in jail at like 4am (pacific time), then had to pitch a day game starting at 12:35pm (pacific time)....but shit, I'm thinking it sure as hell isn't going to help his performance any.....and just because he got lucky and pitched a decent game his last time out, doesn't change my mind from thinking he sucks to begin with.
Amazing how the White Sox ditched geeks like him, and then went on to win a world series pretty much immediately thereafter.

Few things:
Loiza was jailed at 3:30am Wednesday morning. So its not like he's out boozin, driving, sleeping in jail, and then pitching a couple hours later...
Comparing this (and Reddicks DUI) to Big Ben's accident is comparing 2 completely different occurances - however no doubt they were all stupid, stupid mistakes.
Reddicks was probably the most understandable of all. He blew a .11, not exactly an incapacitating blood alcohol level. And while he was stupid to make an illigal U-turn to avoid a checkpoint (might as well turn you self in, moron) raise your hand if you've never gotten behind the wheel after a couple drinks when you still felt ok to drive...becasue thats what he did. Thats what I thought...
As for Loiza, who knows how drunk he was. But going 120 mph under the influence is asking for death. He's lucky he only got a DUI and not a DOA at the hospital...But we're talking about Esteban Loiza...ESTEBAN freakin' LOIZA for cryin out loud. Ben Roethisburger is a Superbowl champion quarterback and future of his franchise. Loiza is sporting an ERA close to 7 and probably shouldn't even be pitching in the majors.
The biggest difference between it all is in the end Ben is really only putting himself in harms way, while Loiza and Reddick endangered innocent peoples lives. Ben is just a stubborn idiot who didn't break any laws, except those of common sense. Especially after so many people showed concern for his safety on the bikes...
Ok, rants over.

when they toss you in the drunk tank at 3:30 AM, they don't let you out until morning. The guy probably didn't get released until about 7 or 8AM. And your body gets rid of alcohol at approx. .015/hour...which means even if he was only .12, he was under the influence when he drove to the park and probably still would have blown a .01 or.02 when he took the hill. If he was really wasted like .18, he probably was still drunk when he was pitching. Just because the next day comes on the calandar and you get a couple hours sleep doesn't mean you wake up sober. i can't freekin' believe they trotted this guy out for a day game. but then again, probably a lot of guys booze like this and play a day game the next day. i have witnessed certain NFL players out until 4 and 5AM with meetings the next morning (saturday) at like 7AM (and i was actually with them, so i found it absolutely astonishing how these guys partyed the whole weekend of a game). still can't believe this guy took the hill....and they won....

it's not morning when they let you out. It's morning if you can blow under the legal limit, if you don't you stay until you can blow under the limit.

i cant say i agree with your statement of ben rothlisberger not putting others in danger. he had an expired learners permit for his motorcycle. thats kind of dangerous in my standards. he wasnt even licensed to drive it. which is why he probly had the accident.

From the article on ESPN.com:
Loaiza, 34, was jailed early Wednesday after he failed a sobriety test near San Lorenzo, said California Highway Patrol spokesman Mike Wright. He was released from jail later that day.
It is my assumption that "Early Wednesday" is 3:30 AM Wednesday morning, no? And his start was on Thursday, so am I missing something here? I mean, he's thrown in the drunk tank at 3:30am Wednesday, say he gets released later that day at Noon, still Wednesday. Then goes to the park for the night game, for which he sits on the bench, goes home Wednesday night, sleeps, and comes to the park on Thursday to pitch...is that not the correct sequence of events here...? Looks to me like he had about 32 hours to recover.
And Daws - I agree with you on that aspect, Ben did infact break the law regarding his licenseing to drive the motercycle - I forgot about that and was only thinking about his neglect to wear a helmet.
Flyers Im not sure how the process works either, although I came pretty damn close to finding out. Tucson PD broke up a party and brought in the frickin' SWAT team my sophomore year to check for underage drinkers - I was 20 and drunk as a skunk. They took 75 kids to Pima County jail that night all for underage drinking, somehow I talked my way out of it...
