Why such the low line on Mathieu? I've played him several times the past month or 2. Is he just a clay-court guy?

He has a big serve, has been playing well, so no I don't consider him a clay courter. Lee has beaten him before on HC but it was a while ago. Lee has also played well, I just thought it worth a shot thinking that Mathieu may be a little off after Paris.
I suspect the line just reflects that the change to grass is a big one for everyone.

Not what I wanted to read about Henman...of course Agassi has got a lot of rust and problems as well...but makes me wonder about the wisdom of my Henman bet...
"Henman said: "The grass has not been as easy on my back as I thought it would be and I have taken longer to adjust physically. It was better today but on Friday and Saturday it wasn't good at all. It is slightly disconcerting my back has been a bit sore but I hope I can put that down to the change in surfaces. I feel like I know how to manage that and hopefully it won't cause any problems."
Oh well, the bet is what it is. Nice hit on Olivier Rochus C Man, tailed ya on that one and others. I do think I have placed too many given the uncertainties of the new surface on players.May back off considerably from here on out.

Yeah, I thought Murray was in real trouble but he started to play a lot better in the second set (or at least it seems he did) - challenging his opponent's serve and holding his own.
He's up 5-2 in the second set but a point away from being up 5-3. If he can just hold serve, it's going 3.
If he can somehow pull out the eighth game and break his opponent's serve, he can start the 3rd set by serving.

Nadal is getting no love from oddsmakers outside the clay court.
I got him at +105 against Mardy Fish. Now he was -500 against Verdasco yesterday but then dips to +135 against Hewitt today. I can understand the line today a bit but it sure is tempting to take the No. 2 player in the world at +135.

I used to love Tennis....been to the Open before, Thriftway ATP in cincy a bunch of times, the women's tourney in LA in August, Mercedes in LA (at UCLA) a couple of times...nothing beat a night match at the Open with an american.....all those 5 setters with like Todd Martin, Sampras or Chang that went until 2AM. But all these guys are gone, and so is my interest in tennis. Roddick is going to end his career as a head case who never got anywhere, and other than Blake, that's pretty much it for American tennis. I know a lot of these other guys are good......but my interst in watching or giving a shit about a Lammer/Roshhert match just isn't even close to being there. I also followed guys like Becker, all the Swedes etc....but this current group of players just provides zero interest to me.....GL!...with the tennis stuff guys...

FF, I am surprised that you don't like Nadal and Federer. Of course you are not obligated to, but when you hear McEnroe expressing awe at Federer's abilities, his shotmaking and movement, and seeing Nadal's incredible run on clay, and his real rivalry with Federer, the men's game has some superb athletes in it. And there is no doubt that the women's game is better than ever in terms of athleticism and depth.
Oh well.I feel similarly about today's crop of baseball players:could not care less about Barry Bonds et al, and rarely even listen to their games anymore. And I used to stay up all night just to listen to Dodger games, and vividly recall seeing Koufax and Drysdale pitch. Now I would rather watch college lacrosse.

I agree about baseball. I used to watch games all the time, follow all the transactions day by day. Was running gamecast all day, every day. That was only a couple of years ago. Now I could give a shit less about baseball. Tennis has replaced baseball for me. For me it's NFL, NCAAB, NBA, NCAAF, ATP, WTA in that order. I have also watched the Stanley Cup games this year and NHL is pretty much on my radar now as well, it's been entertaining as hell. I also like the World Cup and heavyweight boxing, and I'll watch men's golf during the majors. What I like about it is that I can find something to watch 365 days out of the year even without paying attention to baseball.

Horatio- i like Federer, problem is that there has been no competition for him over the past 2 years when he isn't on Clay...it's pretty much a foregone conclusion he will win......there are just too many guys that specialize and not enough guys who are good all around....i am so sick of hearing about "such and such a surface specialists"......i still remember matches like the Conners/Patrick McEnroe match that went into the wee hours of the AM then his match vs. Krickstein that same Open......i was once a huge tennis fan....just have gotten away from it i guess and i never see the same names making a final outside of Federer (or nadal on clay). Edberg was one of my favorite players even though he was quiet. Loved his game. I dunno....i think there is very little interest in Tennis in the states right now. Probably as little as there is in soccer. Davenport is hurt, serena hasn't played in months, venus is decent still, seles is done.....i actually much prefer the women's game to the men's game right now.....at least i know a lot of those guys.....i mean you really have to dig deep to know most of the guys you are talking about.....didn't used to be that way....there were lots of household names on the men's tour that even the casual fan would have heard of......guys like Hewitt, Henman, Safin fade in and out...i dunno...not picking on the game....i followed it for years as i said.......i just don't have the interest in it right now for the reasons stated........anyway, GL!.......the only part of the season i do watch is the US hardcourts season because i have been to so many of the events (cincy, LA, indy, the Open....ladies tourney in LA).....i guess that starts in about 3-4 weeks......GL!...

OK it sounds like (and it is true) that American tennis being down is the reason for your flagging interest. I think that will continue, unfortunately. Blake and Ginepri are about it aside from Roddick. Maybe Bobby Reynolds if he ever lives up to his promise.
(By the way, Nadal is 6-1 against Fedex, and 3 of em are on HC)
I think Americans are witnessing this diminishment in native players in all sports really, as the sports get so internationalized. Fewer Americans will be seen in the NBA (European players are already a major factor)and MLB (where the Dominicans and Latin Americans will steadily replace American kids no longer as interested in the sport).
Instead of having to be the best in this country, now you have to be the best in the world to play in those leagues...and it has always been that way in tennis, but America had advantages in resources and people. No longer true really, as developing nations have caught up in a big way. Chinese women are indicators of that trend in tennis.
Sampras dominated tennis in a fashion similar to Federer, but was labelled "boring" by the idiot American media, who always prefer style over substance.
And gonna finish with throwing a half unit at Blake to upset Roddick on grass at Stella Artois tourney. (+230) Given my week, Blake will get blown off the court in love sets.
BLAKE gets the W , 7-5, 6-4:prtytme:
