FRIDAY - JUNE 7TH

Germany vs. Costa Rica - 12:00 PM

Pick: 1* Germany (-1) (-270)

Going with the handicap here with the hope that Germany can come up with the two goal win. I'm pretty confident that they'll win the game here in front of there home crowd but I'm going with the lower price instead of the -375 to -400 that's out there for the win. World Cup hosts have a tendency to come up short in the first game so I'm being a bit tentative here. Overall talent Germany is better then Costa Rica. Germany has some question marks especially in star Micahel Ballack as he's left training the last few days with a muscle injury so his status for Friday's opening game is still in question. Still Germany possess enough talent that I expect them to put on a good show. Klinsmann has a huge amount of pressure on his shoulders and anything short of a 2 goal win will be a dissapointment. Germany has seem to have found some form over the last few games after a dissapointing 2-2 draw against fellow Cup team Japan. Costa Rica however has gotten buried by two WC teams losing 4-0 to the Ukraine and 1-0 to the Czech Republic. I see a 2-0 or a 3-1 type game here for Germany. Even without Ballack in the midfield Germany possess enough balance that they'll see there way through this game.

Poland vs. Ecuador - 3:00 PM

Taking two pics in this game. I'm not a huge fan of this Polish team as I think they truly lack the overall talent but I do give them credit as in there qualifying group against some pretty good sides they only managed to drop pts to England. Poland seem to be in good health for this game which should help them immensly. Poland has 2nd place in this group for the taking so winning this game has significant implications. Ecuador outside of there own home country and altitude are a competely different side. Ecuador has never played well outside of Ecuador and there qualification for the WC was based on there home prowess rather then there road matches where they went 1-5-1. Poland should win this one in what should be a very low scoring affair. This game screams 1-0 or 2-0 but I have read some views where some experts believe there will be plenty of offense here but I feel both teams lack enough punch to hit the over here.

I really feel Group B is a two horse race with England and Sweden heading the way. Paraguay can cause some problems but the Swedes have so much talent that should help them advance.

What site are you doing that through? I'm at sportinteraction and they aren't offering lines for teams to make the round of 16. Just curious, what are the odds for Iran to make the round of 16?

Pick: 1* Togo To Not Make Round 16 (-580)

Togo is a mystery to most everyone. They have some very talented players on there squad but overall I think they lack the moxy to compete in this World Cup. Togo is getting there first test on the world stage and generally that doesn't mean good things. In a group mixed with France, Switzerland and South Korea I find it hard to believe they'll move on. The South Korea game will tell all but I feel that will be the only match for Togo to maybe steal a pt or two.

I would actually say that the Germans are not very happy with the game today since their defense played the ridiculous offsides trap for the whole game even after it got beat early with it. Klinnsman needs to make alot of adjustments IMO for them to go far because if they play like that agsinst a good team, they will not win.

SATURDAY - JUNE 10TH

England vs. Paraguay - 9:00 AM

Pick: 2* England (-165) Over Paraguay

Even without Rooney I think Ol England will get this done. Paraguay can certainly be a threat but if England plays like it has of late I think they'll win this game by a two goal margin. Beckham and Crouch are in top form and players like Gerrard, Owen and Lampard are dangerous at all moments. Paraguay does have some dangerous players such as Acuna, Roque Santa Cruz, Paredes and Gavillan. England produced some really strong results heading into the World Cup as Paraguay marginally got by. England wins this 2-0 or 3-1.

Sweden vs. Trinidad & Tobago - 12:00 PM

Pick: 1* Sweden (-1/2) (-403)

This should be a mismatch here as T&T albeit a nice story doesn't seem like they belong yet at this stage. John Stern is a nice player but he can't handle the Swedes here. T&T dropped all 3 games in it's warmups losing 2-1 to Wales, 3-1 to Slovenia and 3-0 to the Czech Republic. Sweden did not have the best warmups heading into the cup losing 1 and drawing two but they have way too much experience and an explosive offense with the likes of Ljunberg, Larsson and Ibrahimovic. Sweden should win this one by a couple as well.

Argentina vs. Ivory Coast - 3:00 PM

Pick: 1* Ivory Coast (+1) (-130)
Pick: Ivory Coast / Argentina Over 2.5 (+120)

This is one of the most intriguing matchups in the first round. I'm going with two plays. First the Over. These are two highly attacking squads that matchup up here and Argentina features a defense that sometimes has a tendency to fall asleep. Both teams have deadly strikers and with there style of play this one screams an over. Generally that means under but so far in this World Cup we've seen teams be unafraid to attack. As my 2nd pick I went with the +1 on the Ivory Coast. As good as Argentina is and they are one of the best teams in the Cup Ivory Coast can match them in many areas. I don't forsee a two goal win for Argentina as Ivory Coast has very talented players that play in every major league in Europe. I think the Ivory Coast can certainly suprise here with a win but if not a draw. I feel that Argentina won't win by more then 1 goal so the price is worth it.

Long time I've been absent.

I'm with you on the over with Argentina. I see a 3-1 score (Argentina). Both teams will score - just hope they don't shut down when it's 1-1.

I'll be in Fabulous Las Vegas June 16-20 watching the games in the sportsbooks. Do you have any idea if they offer prop bets in Vegas?

TUESDAY - JUNE 13TH

South Korea vs. Togo - 9:00 AM

Pick: 1* South Korea (-1/2) (+117)

I took this price a few days before Otto Pfister the Togo national head coach quit over player bonuses. The price has dropped about $20 since then. There is alot of unrest in the Togo camp. Players have been fighting from day 1 over bonuses and have hardly practiced since getting to Germany. With the help of Puma Togo thought they had another head coach in place but he too turned the job down due to all the unrest in the Togo camp. I'm not a huge fan of South Korea outside of there home country because they play like a different team but do to all the unrest in the Togo camp I can't see why the skilled and technical South Koreans wouldn't be able to punch one or two in the net. I like the price I got three days ago as opposed to now but it's still worth it.

France vs. Switzerland - 12:00 PM

Pick: 1* France / Switzerland Under 2.5 (-167)

Any game featuring France usually has a 60-70% chance of going under. France has one of the stiffest defenses in the world and even though they have two of the best strikers in Europe they somehow manage to come up short in the goal department. The Swiss are somewhat of a mystery on how good there going to be in this World Cup. They have tons of talent as this team is littered with great young players and solid veterans but how that will mix into the World cup is anyone's guess. France pounds out 1-0 games often so I'm going with that though that will be another low scoring win or draw for them.

Brazil vs. Croatia - 3:00 PM

Pick: 1* Brazil (-1/2) (-267)

I absolutely hate this price. This price is based off the fact that Brazil is the favorite for the tourney and there 2nd squad of players could give any of the top team in the world a run for there money. I just have to do it. The Brazilians are just so amazing controlling the ball and findiing great scoring oppurtunities. There's alot of pressure on a team when there this big of a favorite especially when there facing one of the best teams in the World Cup in Croatia. This will be a big test but Brazil has some much depth in this team that I don't see past a 3-1 type win here.

I agree with your France/Switzerland under pick, taking it myself.

Although Brazil has been my favorite team since visiting there when I was 13, I can't take them at that price. I hope they aren't overconfident!

Nice hit on the UNDER Corey! I was out and couldnt get it in. Totally agree on your assessment of France. It's amazing how they cant score with such talent.

Also thinking with you on Brazil. I got it in yesterday at -250 but this Croatian tema is pretty good and I hope Brazil can squeak out the win as this will be their toughest game by far until the meet Italy or the Czechs in the round of 16.

WEDNESDAY - JUNE 14TH

Ukraine vs. Spain - 9:00 AM

Pick: 1* Ukraine / Spain Under 2.5 (-168)

The two best teams in the group H meet up in the first game of the group play. The big question is whether Schvechenko will play for Ukraine or not. Ukraine are two totally different teams when he's in the lineup or not. It's not easy to lose arguably the best striker in the world. Spain has talent all over the field but sometimes they play defensive soccer. They get there 1 or 2 goals and then they sit back and defend. With both teams favorite to advance and neither team wanting to lose alot in the first game I expect this one to be a lowscoring affair.

Tunisia vs. Saudi Arabia - 12:00 PM

Pick: 1* Tunisia (-1/2) (-118)

Tunisia is the sleeper pick in this group. Tunisia has a very solid team and showed great form in qualifying. Saudi Arabia is in good form too but I don't think they have the quality that Tunisia has. I expect the veterans such as Santos and Trabelsi to take control here. Value play as I think Tunisia is that much better then Saudia Arabia.

Germany vs. Poland -- 3:00 PM

Pick: 1* Germany (-1/2) (-193)

Going with the home team as offensively with Ballack back they will be very hard to stop. Poland played an awful game against Ecuador and there coach vowed to make changes ahead of this clash. Germany worries me defensively but they make up for it with there great offense. Germany becomes the first team to make it to the 2nd round in this one.

Switzerland vs. Togo - 9:00 AM

There is talk that Togo might boycott this game due to them not receiving money from there goverment for this toruney. As of Sunday night they still didn't fly to the location of this match and the mood in Togo's camp is not good. I can't imagine Togo not showing up to a World Cup game but when and if they do they'll have to face a very well balanced Swiss team who should win this game by a couple of goals.

Ukraine vs. Saudi Arabia - 12:00 PM

Pick: 1* Ukraine (-1) (-125)

Ok Ukraine played horribly vs Spain. it was a case of getting down early and never trying after as Spain took it to the Ukrainians and never let up. Ukraine is not fit and they are missing players for this match but I still think they are that much better then Saudi Arabia. The Saudi's were lucky to play and undertermined Tunisian squad in there first game. They won't be so lucky today as Ukraine must win this game for a chance to advance. Schvechenko should dominate up front today and Ukraine should win this game 2-0.

Spain vs. Tunisia - 3:00 PM

Pick: 1* Spain (-1) (-207)

Tunisia was very dissapointing in there first match vs Saudi Arabia. A decent first half played by them but an awful 2nd half which saw them down 2-1 in the 90th minute before being able to tie it up in injury time. Tunisia has way too much quality for that kind of a match and things won't get easier for them today as they face one of the most balanced teams in the tournament. Spain easily dismantled Ukraine beating them 4-0 in the opening game. Spain really does not have a weak link on the team and I expect them to dominate this game here today. They won't repeat a 4-0 win but a 2 goal win should be in reach.

Neither team has anything to play for except some repsect. Both teams have not shown much at all in this World Cup and I see a low scoring draw here as both teams would love to pick up a point before they go home.

Germany vs. Ecuador - 10:00 AM

Pick: 1* Ecuador (+1 1/2) (-180)

Ecuador has been very solid through there two games. They're tough defensively and they score when given the oppurtunity by the opposing defense. Germany has had it's ups and downs. These two teams are battling it out for 1st place here and although Germany should win this game I'm pretty sure they'll only win by a goal as Ecuador has played too well to lose to them by anymore then that. I'll take the +1 1/2 here as I think Ecuador keeps this game close.

Paraguay vs. Trinidad & Tobago - 3:00 PM

Pick: 1* Paraguay /Trinidad & Tobago Under 2.5 (-132)\

T&T has shown a solid defense here in the World Cup and great goaltending by Shaka Hislop. Paraguay have not offered up much offensively but they haven't been conceding much either so this game with both teams virtually out of it should be a lowscoring draw.

Sweden vs. England - 3:00 PM

Pick: 1* Sweden / England Under 2.5 (-182)

Low scoring draw here as two soccer titans matchup. England has scored just 3 goals in there two games while conceding none and Sweden has scored just 1 goal w/o conceding a goal. 1st place is on the line here but England needing to get just one pt in this matchup to win the group so I don't expect them to take many risks. This game has 1-0 or 1-1 written all over it.

E - I think Argentina will be way too strong for Mexico. Mexico has not played the way they should in the WC. As for Germany vs Sweden there is a definite possibility of a draw or a win for Sweden.
