I've never bet on a soccer match and though I am fairly (with a capital F) familiar with the international competition, I'm nowhere near an expert.

My main beef with better on the soccer is the draw. It's why I used to hate betting on hockey because you could lose on a tie. I think that sucks.

From reading your guys' posts on here, I was thinking about putting together a parlay with some of the heavy favs.

For example:

Germany -420
England -175
Sweden -425
Italy -200
Brazil -250

$100 would bring $404.71

My question to the board experts is how likely is a tie with any of the above 5 matches? I can handle losing a bet if my team loses but losing on a tie would drive me up the wall.

Rousea - Ties are very much a factor in World Cup play. As a barometer, I believe the over/under for ties in the first round is about 13.5 out of 48 matches.

As for the games you've selected:

(1) I think everyone on Earth expects Germany to beat Costa Rica in the home opener. The Costa Ricans finished 3rd in their qualifier and they are getting old.

(2) Likewise, England is expected to beat Paraguay but England is banged up and Paraguay plays a low socring, ball control game that is basically unwatchable. England should win because of superior talent, but a 1-1 or 0-0 game is not an impossible scenario IMO.

(3) Sweden, led by Ibrahimovic, SHOULD score a bunch of goals on Trinidad and Tobago.

(4) Italy has been atrocious lately in friendlies but they should prevail over Ghana. It would be a huge embarrassment to not win that game for them.

(5) Brazil is obviously always favored, but this is their toughest game in group IMO. Croatia was undefeated in qualifying and is not a bad team. Brazil is just sickly talented though and should really win every time they step onto the field.

Hope I helped a little bit... I like the parlay and hope it hits for you!!!

Good call CuseFan. the thing is one of those games will not go as expected. I may be biased but it will not be sweden -- that is a win for sweden. Germany should be Costa Rica handly also, but those are the only two id feel comfortable betting on. Italy is sketchy at best and England is pretty hit or miss. (If England doesn't win the opener look out.) I want to say Brazil is prime for an upset but I just dont know. Croatia is not a bad team but Brazil is so overrated.

btw. im drunk. i should placfee bets now so i go withj my insticntst

Ok, I decided to be patient and do a 4-day/5-play parlay with French Open tennis and World Cup soccer.

Tennis
Men: Ivan Ljubicic -320 (Wednesday)
Women: Svetlana Kuznetsova -120 (Thursday)

Soccer
Germany -420 (Friday)
England -175 (Saturday)
Sweden -425 (Saturday)

Risk $110.00 to win $526.14

Hope a tie doesn't do me in!

Well, Ljubicic and Kuznetsova did their jobs and hammered down the first two nails for me.

It's now down to the three soccer matches.

Germany -420 (Friday)
England -175 (Saturday)
Sweden -425 (Saturday)

Futbol experts, how am I looking?

England wins but not very convincingly...I'll take it though.

It's all up to Sweden now!
