I'm pretty sure 5Dimes will be offering all the qualifying lines for the French Open. They did last year and I don't see why they wouldn't do it again.

Sunday

1st Round

20* Dinara Safina (-360) Over Vera Zvonareva - 5:00 AM

Starting off the women's side with a rather large play on the younger sister of Marat Safin. Dinara is coming into her own over the last month on the clay. In her 4 tourney's on clay this season she's 12-4 making the Final's in Rome, Quarters in Berlin & Charleston and the R16 in Amelia Island. In the tourney in Rome she knocked off Dementieva and Kuznetsova impressively and is in the top form heading into this match. As for Vera her up and down season continues here at Roland Garros. This season she's 5-4 on clay with some decent wins over Dulko, Dechy and Peer but didn't really show much in her last match winning just 1 game against Romina Oprandii in Rome. In the H2H matchup Safina leads with a 2-1 margin as all 3 matches were on clay one of which was this season where Safina won 7-5, 7-5 in Charleston. This is the WTA so ups and downs are always a potential but with Safina's solid play of late and her strong game she's primed for a strong run here in Paris.

Good Luck to All!!!!

So far she hasn't shown the tendency to be a headcase. She seems to be coming into her own this season. 24-11 overall with only one loss that makes me scratch my head to Daniilidou on hard earlier in the season. The other 10 losses were to the likes of Henin-Hardenne, Clijsters, Safarova, Mauresmo, Arvidsson, Kuznetsova, Hingis x2, Groenefeld & Petrova. None of those are bad losses as all are very good opposition. She had some very good wins especially of late over Dementieva, Kuznetsova, Clijsters and Hantuchova which are all a step better then Zvonareva. Horatio you know the WTA and that anything can happen but Safina has showed a very good service game which is key in the WTA.

Good Luck!!!!

I have watched her performance through the tournies and she has had a very good season.I have read her comments. She is on a roll; I am glad she does not share her brotehr's volatility (and that guy, to me, is as talented as anyone on the tour.). GL bro. I just put in a 7-play parlay on Bodog:

Elena Dementieva -1200
Nicole Vaidisova -540
Venus Williams -2000
Anna Chakvetadze -560
Flavia Pennetta -1000
Mara Santangelo -440

and

Conchita Martinez EVEN

I always put the matchups on head-to-head on WTA's website to see the series history if any. When I did Conchita's, it came up with two of them: Conchita Martinez and Conchita Martinez Granados. Bodog listed the play as just Conchita Martinez. I thought she had retired but then I assumed she was just making a comeback for the French only. She was always a good clay court player and her would-be opponent hasn't had a good year so far, so I added Conchita Martinez into the parlay to give it some value.

However, when I went to the French Open website and looked at the order of play, it's not Conchita Martinez that's playing, it's Conchita Martinez Granados.

So I don't know what to do. Bodog clearly listed the wrong Martinez. Do I let this play out and see if Granados wins or should I call now and void? The only bad thing about that is all the plays are now off the board at Bodog. For some reason, they all went off at 10:15. I don't know if they would let me just take her off or not.

What if I wait and see and everyone but Granados wins. Say I get the first six right and Granados loses and I call Bodog to complain that they listed the wrong player. Would they simply void the whole thing? Or would they call that play a push and grade the parlay a 6-team winner?

Let me know what you guys think...

Well...moot point as Martinez Granados wins in three sets. Now it's all up to Mara Santangelo, who just won set one 6-4.

Unless they play a fast second set (and Mara wins), this might be carried over to tomorrow. I think they quit about 3 p.m. eastern time/9 p.m. Paris time yesterday. So they've got about 45 minutes or so.

I have been toying with tossing a unit AGAINST Mauresmo, anticipating a choke, with astronomical odds in her matches. Personally, I do not buy into the idea that the monkey is off her back due to the Aussie Open victory; that W was diminished by the lame retirement of Henin.
Of course, if Amelie believes in herself due to that, I am all wet.But I wonder if there is still not a bogey in the back of her mind in this venue.

Not always...This week if you combine both the Women and men i'm somewhere around even now. I'm up around 1,300 on the women between MD and Qualifying and probably down that in the men. Tennis has it's ups and downs but it can be very consistent.

Vaidisova (2)....French challenger's cinderella run ends here. Heavy favorite, but Vaidisova has been money for me all year. **WIN**

Ivanovic (1) This is very very, dicey, and I probably should not throw a unit at it, as Myskina, as erratic and frankly crazy as she is, has gotten her head together after the death of her mother. The more I think about it the less sense this bet makes, may very well buy it back at 1:59 am. **LOSS**

(I may be influenced too much by Ivanovic's WTA photo:what a bombshell!!)

First tennis post...Just want to contribute a little bit to the forum after Corey & company have made so much money for me this year.

Anyway...onto the plays

303 Svetlana Kuznetsova +895 To win the French Open @ Olympic Sports

Kuznetsova has a very difficult match upcoming with Safina, who actually beat her in Rome earlier this year on clay. If she is able to get through that tough match she will meet the winnier of Williams/Vaidisova, both of whom she has a winning record against. In the bottom half of the draw Clijsters and Henin-Hardenne will probably meet for a spot in the finals. Clijsters has been flying under the radar all tournament long and but has been in top form, having not dropped a set. She has won two sets at love and another at 6-1 (out of eight total). She and Henin always play difficult matches (Clijsters leads 10-9 H2H) and while Kuznetsova has struggled in her career against both players, her recent results against Hardenne have been encouraging. (Two of last three have gone the distance). Last year at the French, Hardenne escaped 7-6, 4-6, 7-5 in the round of 16. This is incredible value for Kuznetsova in my opinion.

306 Kim Clijsters +575 To win the French Open @ Olympic Sports

I listed a few stats for Clijsters in the above paragraph and for all these reasons I like her as well.

Tuesday Plays
Clijsters -150
Williams +100

Hope my first foray into tennis is a succesful one!!

Tough and interesting matches, and choices. Going with:

Williams (-111)**LOSS**
Clijsters (-141)**WIN**
Safina (+112)**LOSS**

All could go either way in my opinion, so only one unit each.
Safina could let down after an important and improbable win. I think she may build on it.She is in shape and very talented.

I do think Vaidisova, who has been money all year, will somehow fold under a determined Venus Williams. Why? I don't know. I think Williams wants it a bit more and Vaidisova plays with a pace Venus can handle and even enjoy.

This has been a great tournament no matter how these play out.As I say, I really could imagine going 0-3 tomorrow so in some ways I should probably just stay away...but what the hell.

GL :gulp:

PS Adding

Henin (-815) 2 units. Terrible juice, but I am willing choke on chalk here. Groenefeld is dangerous but Henin is usually money.**WIN**

Thursday Selections

Kuznetsova +100 vs Vaidisova

Vaidisova has opened some eyes, displaying the potential that many people thought she would, albeit not this early. She has beaten two big-time women in Momo and Venus over her last two matches. (In fairness these two are known more for choke-jobs than big wins lately) Her win over Venus is a statiscal anomaly, as she committed 57 unforced errors, had 8 double faults and a 1st serve % of just 57%. From the start she took advantage of Williams` sloppy shots. Williams struggled not only with her groundstrokes but when she came forward, blowing two overheads and netting several easy volleys.

Meanwhile Kuznetsova reached the Roland Garros semifinals for the first time by overcoming an early 5-1 deficit and beating Dinara Safina 7-6 (5), 6-0.

I'll take the experienced Russian over the wide-eyed young "Baby Maria" :jig: :jig:

Horatio

surprised at the line here. Vaidisova -113...I am surprised she is favored at all really. She is a youngster, but already has as many titles as Kuznetsova (6). Kuznetsova does have a major, however, the U.S. if memory serves me...
Vaidisova has a big game and the conditions are drying out and heating up.This could play in her favor.
I am totally on the fence here; Vaidisova has been very good lately, but Kuznetsova has proven to be capable of winning big events. Not sure what the heck..will decide later.:bang:

I am going to do what I do not like doing:betting against a player that has been money all year for me. That and the underdog price for Kuznetsova has me in her corner, not the babe Vaidisova. 1/2 unit. **WIN**
Also going with Henin.Quite a record between these two.Another toss up to me, but taking the oddsmaker favorite here. One unit on JHH.

Clijsters +145

Justine Henin-Hardenne versus Kim Clijsters is a repeat of the 2003 final and the 20th overall meeting between these two countrywomen. Clijsters leads 10-9, with three victories in four matches on clay, and having also won their last three Grand Slam meetings. Kim has a lot at stake on Thursday. Should she beat Hénin, she will overtake Amélie Mauresmo and return to the top of the world rankings.

Going against the popular opinion here and taking the doggie.

Well, Ljubicic came through on the first part of my 5-play parlay...

-----------------------------------
Tennis
Men: Ivan Ljubicic -320 (Wednesday)
Women: Svetlana Kuznetsova -120 (Thursday)

Soccer
Germany -420 (Friday)
England -175 (Saturday)
Sweden -425 (Saturday)

Risk $110.00 to win $526.14

Hope a tie doesn't do me in!
-------------------------------------

My thinking with Kuznetsova is this. Vaidisova didn't play that great of a match against Venus. Venus beat herself in that match for the most part. I don't think Svetlana will make half the mistakes that Venus did.

This is from the WTA website:

Both Kuznetsova and Vaidisova have maintained good serving and returning stats throughout the Paris fortnight, but two specific numbers stand out as potential predictors to this semifinal. The Russian is the only player in the final four to have compiled a positive winners-to-errors differential (155 to 148, +7), while Vaidisova has by far the mostnegative one (129 to 167, -38). Also, the Russian has faced opponents with an average ranking of No.30, while the Czech's opponents' rankings average out at No.64.

Horatio

may need to be renamed Kuzchokova. She is gagging the first set away, stoning volleys and sitters...Vaidisova looks much more mature, despite her age.

Well she ends the first set with another unforced error. Terrible. Ends with 39% first serves in the first set:that is purely an indicator of nerves. And her body language is screaming:loser.

WELL: Vaidisova had the match on her racquet and choked as well. Nether seems to have the mental toughness necessary to take the match in hand. Pressure does a real number on human beings, it is always awful to watch in some ways.

Well one choke got another. Live and burn for Vaidisova. Will take it.Man I never bet big on women's tennis for that reason:too many are brittle in crunch time. And speaking of brittle, the next match has two of the classic nervous Nellies in it! Good grief. Will be happy with this W and may buy back the other bet...:gulp: Did not buy back the Henin bet but only due to work related issues, so will not win claim a W there. Henin remains the favorite to win it all, will wait the odds posted but think she gets it.
