I'm pretty sure 5Dimes will be offering all the qualifying lines for the French Open. They did last year and I don't see why they wouldn't do it again.

early thoughts on odds to win FO??
Some that I'm considering...
Nadal -105
Federer +200
Gonzalez +5452
Coria +10962
I might go with Federer and then a smaller play on Coria

Fedex and Nalbandian perhaps. Coria, for whatever reason, has been stinking up the joint lately, hasn't he?? I am sure Corey would know more about that but he has not been doing well as far as I can recall.
Of course, I think Nadal will win this one, but the odds are truly lousy there.

Forget Coria he's out 6 weeks. Trying to get his head right. The other 3 are good and I would also consider Almagro as well. Good Luck!!!!

Yep he's the next future Argentinian star. From what I've been told he's better on hard courts then clay but he's very solid on this surface. Right now he has a tendency to lose to players he shouldn't but that will change as he matures. He along with players like Cilic, Korolev & Sidorenko are guys to watch out for in the near future.

Just one play for me on Sunday in the men's. Nalbandian and Henman both look good but prices are just way too short to play.
Sunday
1st Round
10* Jose Acasuso (-473) Over Fabrice Santoro - 9:30 AM
The one main disadvantage here is that Fabrice is playing at home. The crowd will obviously be backing him bigtime but when it comes to clay Chucho is just better. This will be a long match. I expect 4 sets here but the difference here is Chucho's better defensive tennis. Santoro is known as a very difficult player to play but against an opponent such as Chucho I don't see him making much of an impact. Chucho is 16-5 on clay this season winning one tourney in Vina del Mar earlier in the season while he made the semis in Hamburg two weeks ago. His losses on clay have come against very good clay players such as Gaudio, Almagro x2, Calleri and Stepanek. Santoro is just 2-3 on clay this season getting knocked out in the first round in 2 of 3 tourney's he's played in on this surface. Chucho holds a 1-0 advantage in the H2H but that was on Hard courts. Chucho should post the victory here as he is a contender to get deep into the tourney.
Good Luck to All!!!!

Fortunately the women's side has been extremely profitable b/c the men side has been brutal early on. Vliegen blew 7 MP's and 11 BP's in the 4th set and then collapsed mentally in the 5th. Di Mauro had many oppurtunities but was never able to cash one of them. Novak was an absolute joke. After an awesome week by him in Portsasch he lost to one of the worst clay players on tour.
Massu won 6-1, 7-5, 1-6, 4-6, 9-7!!!!
Vliegen lost 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, 6-7, 2-6

I'm looking at picking up some extra units on certain matches on Tuesday, does anybody see a reason not to throw in extra cash on any of the following?
Gonzalez, Daniel, Ramirez Hidalgo, Verdasco, Monfils, and Hrbaty
What about Garcia-Lopez shocking Ferrer tomorrow? Anyone else see this happening?
Also I feel like my boy Mahut will have a good chance to get far in this tourney. I've been betting him a lot over the last 5 weeks or so. His path isn't brutal he's got Vanek then O.Rochus/Faurel then Roddick/Martin then Stepanek/Portas then Ferrer/Verdasco, all with the advantage of the crowd on his side I think he can win a few matches.
My other boy Monfils could make a deep run also, though his road would be a bit tougher.
Horatio
05-29-2006, 09:59 PM
a little bit about Verdasco.Chela can play (as you know, 2-1 lifetime against Verdasco, all on clay, but Verdasco won the last one). Seems like a tough opener to me.
I like Hrbaty, simply because the dude is going to still be standing if it goes 5 sets.He would be standing if it went 7 sets. I would like him more if it were hotter.
Ferrer has played well lately, hasn't he? GGL is a tough one for him too, and I think the odds are a little excessive in Ferrer's favor.Might be worth a small shot.
There are an awful lot of dicey matchups here. Maybe I am getting too cautious, but usually in the early rounds is where I feel more comfortable. This year, not so much in this tournament. I mean, Safin-Gonzalez, first round??? Tough.

Monfils is a strange player. He's a kid who can reach the QF's or SF's of a major or get knocked out easily by a journeyman player. He's so tough to read cause it seems half the time he doesn't give a shit either way.

Yes its only a matter of time before a few of my upset picks start coming through, i've been holding my ground without hitting any major upsets. The way I play I can't do better than break even without some underdogs coming through. I play a very low risk- high reward style. Every week I either finish A) up 15-20 units or B) break even or slightly worse. I'm just gonna keep doing what I do and eventually it will start paying off, there's still a long way to go. I feel good about these next couple days. It's about time to start making some f'ing money here!

If you had to take just one of Slutier or Ferrero, which one would you take?
I'm looking to make one play tomorrow at close to even money. I've been doing parlays and such and have not got anywhere that way.
EdwardHaney

Ferrero should be able to fight off Gaudio I would think. Vassallo Arguello could end up being a bit of a pain in the ass. If you play Sluiter that will pay out a little better than Ferrero would. To be honestly with you I wish I could have the Sluiter play back I think VA will be close but I'm not going to change my play now. If you are going to make just one play I'd say Ferrero because I don't see Gaudio taking 3 sets from him. That seems like decent value on an even money play.
But I'm NOT a tennis expert by any means so go with whatever you feel. I'm still in the learning phases of betting on tennis that is why I only stay active in this particular forum to try to become better...
If you are interesting in waiting until Saturday you can play Djokovic over Haas that seems like a better option than anything on Friday, or I have an NBA play on Friday that I think is more valuable than anything here, it will be one of my largest plays in the playoffs and I'm 57-23-2 on NBA sides since the playoffs began, pending the game that's going on right now (however only about 40 percent of those are posted).

IMO...Gaudio will take out JCF...Both players are way too inconsistent but in the end Gaudio is the better player. As for Davydenko vs Moya..Davy is one of the most consistent players on tour. Moya has had a rather poor season and I would expect the Donkey to beat him in 3 or 4. Sluiter vs Arguello is tough but I would go with the Argentine in that one as his overall clay experience should in out.
EdwardHaney
06-01-2006, 11:40 PM
I still have a good feeling about Ferrero but I wouldn't back him too heavily. Sorry I can't be more helpful rousea but my advice would still be to strongly consider Djokovic if you're looking for one single winner. He's a young'n.....but shit so is Nadal. Haas will have a hell of a time beating that kid.
-Don't forget he pushed Federer in Monte Carlo and even took a set off him.
-He lost to Stepanek in a 3rd set tie breaker in Rotterdam after beating Stepanek a few weeks earlier.
-He even took Ljubicic to a 3rd set back in January where he lost 4-6 and that was in Zagreb a tourney that Ljubo has won 2 years straight now in his home country!
-He's also 1-1 against Coria this year.

I am doing well there as well, and like you don't post em much.
Going with Berdych (1):thinking Kiefer tired after the 5 set marathon. Plus I don't like the tool.Berdych owns 2-0 lifetime record against the jerk German.make it a hat trick **NO RESULT KIEFER RETIRED**
Ancic (1); gotta earn back the fine money he just lost.Seriously, he has the game.I hope he has the head and the guts.Number 12 in the world, and learning from Ljubi how to get through tough spots.**WIN**
Davydenko (1) Like the low odds on the number 6 player in the world. I know Moya is tremendous on clay. But Moya is on the downside of his career, and Davydenko is in his prime. **WIN**
Nalbandian. (3) Heavy favorite. Tursunov gets his wish and gets off the brick courts on to something more to his liking.(Wish I had bet him against the fading Henman though)**WIN**
The scary thing about all these,(not only being all favorites)is that I could easily see the top three losing.I tend to pull in the reins in the late stages of a tourney, as these are all great players left. This has been a tremendous tournament but I am prejudiced:I love the range of shots that clay, and only clay, brings out in the men's game.

You can hardly ever bet Federer unless you are a real risk taker. I think Ancic has a slight shot, would feel better about it had he not been in a rough one with Robredo that had to sap him.Plus I think he is injured.Neither is a good sign playing against Fedex.GL :gulp:

Federer usually does win but his lines are ridiculous to bet. Way too high and no value at all. Better taking a shot at other sports or underdogs usually for one unit. LOL
rousea
06-06-2006, 08:52 PM
Kind of surprised the line increased on Ljubicic against Benneteau. Lub's was going off at -230 against Ramirez Hidalgo and I think Benneteau's been playing better. He's already knocked off No. 19 Marcos Baghdatis and No. 11 Radek Stepanek. Hidalgo surprisingly knocked off No. 15 David Ferrer coming into Lub's last match but didn't beat anyone of note prior to that.
Anyway, Benneteau got some rest the other day when Martin retired after only a set (or actually just under a set). Ljubicic played 4 sets.
I think the Frenchman has some value at +205. He'll definitely have the crowd behind him.
Haven't decided whether I'll play him or not, but I'm def. considering him.
Horatio
06-06-2006, 09:50 PM
One thing for certain about Ljucicic:he will hardly be intimidated by the crowd. Check out his Davis Cup record sometime:he thrives on intense atmosphere.
With you on the rest factor though.I usually take Ljubi even when I should not, just because he has been so good the past two to three years for me. And he is not number 4 in the ATP rankings for nothing (JB is 95, but they are 1-1 lifetime against each other, none on clay).

I wonder when the last time that the 1, 2, 3, and 4 seeds were the four semifinalists in a major. I'd guess that's rarely happened on the men's side, and probably never at the French. I'm too lazy to research this but I'd be interested to know. Doesn't get any better than this.
rousea
06-06-2006, 11:36 PM
Among the things that concern me about Ljubicic is that his 1st serve percentage has decreased between 11-15 percent since his first match at the French Open.
58, 54, 64, and 69
While Benneteau has has stayed pretty consistent...67, 67, 72, 76.
Don't get me wrong, I love Ljubicic's game and he is a favorite here for a reason. I just have a feeling about Benneteau in this one.
Ferrer and Acasuso each handed Ivan solid straight set losses in the previous two touraments on clay. That said, Benneteau hasn't been in those guy's leagues either.
I think this match goes at least 4, if not 5 sets. I've gotten to watch a lot of both of them with ESPN2 finally showing some tennis.

By the way...
With seeds No1 (Roger Federer) and No3 (David Nalbandian) sailing through on Tuesday, it will be up to No2 (Rafael Nadal) and No4 (Ivan Ljubicic) to complete the final four on Wednesday. Should they get through, this will be the first time that the top seeds have all made it through to the semis at Roland Garros since 1985 (when Messrs McEnroe, Lendl, Connors and Wilander got to the semis).

Is currently 2/3 to win it all and Federer 6/5.
How do you guys feel about Nadal at 2/3? Is Federer really going to beat him on clay? I don't see it.

If Federer is to beat Nadal on clay this will be the tourney to do so. Nadal doesn't seem to have his top game but against Fed in the finals I'm sure he'll show up.

Until Federer beats him on clay I am sticking with Rafa.
Federer also has said some things that either are just attempts at mind games or show real frustration at losing to the kid.Perhaps both. I generally like Federer, both on and off court, but the crap about "one dimensional game" and alleging coaching during matches (like that doesn't happen all the time despite the rules) make me wonder about his mentality.
That being said, he is Federer, and really badly wants this one, so as to have won all four titles. He certainly can beat Nadal. But until I see it, my money is going with the Spaniard.:gulp:

I guess my point is do you guys think it's better to just play $100-200 on Nadal at 2/3 or risk individual insane match juice?
What will the Nadal/Federer line be IYO's? And does anyone seriously think he might lose to LJubicic?

Nadal will probably be around a -200 to -250 against Federer. I think that's a crazy line but at this point anything lower on Nadal the books will get pounded so at that type of line they'll get action on the value players for Federer and the chalk players for Nadal. If it was around -150 to -190 there would be ALOT of action on Nadal and the only way the books would win money would be for Federer to win.

is the type of match I hate:two guys I love to bet ON. As for Ljubicic, he has the grit and the serve to cause problems for anyone, so I think he CAN beat Nadal, especially as Nadal has not played all that brilliantly here. It is like he is awaiting the expected Federer final. He better not overlook Ljuicic. But Ljubi is slow afoot, and Nadal is well, Nadal, so I think he will get by.
C man is the word on probable odds, not me...I was surprised at Vaidisova's odds today, and sometimes am thrown for a loop by the books.

anyone see any value in nalbandian +325. I think it may be worth a unit being that clay isnt feders surface
Horatio

and unanswerable really. Fedex is 5-1 the last 6 times these guys have played, and beat him most recently on clay.I THINK Federer has learned how to beat Nalbandian, who gave him plenty of trouble early. He is also on a mission. Not a good combination for Nalbandian but if he is to beat Federer, it will be on this surface.
The "value" problem I always have with such thinking is ultimately, there is no value in a lost bet. But, is it worth a shot? I suppose so, but personally I expect to see Federer and Nadal finally get down to what everyone has hoped for all along.. GL on whatever you decide. :gulp:

R. Federer -5.5 Handicap Games +118
Federer has been lights out throughout the tournament, having dropped only one set thus far, in a tiebreaker no less. Federer has played over 30 games in just two of his matches (33 against Hartfield and 40 against Massu.) Seeing as how a player must win at least 18 games to advance in a 3-set match, if Federer keeps it under 30 games, than this is a winning bet. Against Hartfield, Federer won 20 games and lost 13 (another winner) and when playing Massu he won 25 games and lost 15 (again, a winner). So this bet is 5 for 5 so far in Federer's matches. I like the odds here. I feel that even if Nalbandian takes a set, he will not win 6-2 or 6-3. More likely it will be in a tiebreak or 7-5, something close.
Ljubicic vs Nadal Under 34.5 Total Games +107
This play is based on the fact that I feel Nadal wins this in straight sets. I do not think Ljubicic matches up well with Nadal, especially on clay and I see something like a 6-4, 7-5, 6-4 match, with Nadal victorious. Which leads me to my final play...
Will R. Nadal Win 3-0 ? Yes -126
From the keyboard of Patrick McEnroe at ESPN.com...."A lot of people seem think Ljubicic will give Nadal trouble. I am not one of them. Nadal will work him over. Ljubicic has had a great run and his powerful serve could bother Nadal, but only if he is piling up the aces.
Once they get into a rally, Ljubicic doesn't have the ability to hit the ball early enough. Players who have given Nadal the most trouble -- even here at the French like Paul-Henri Mathieu and Lleyton Hewitt -- are guys who can step inside the baseline and rip the ball. It's not Ljubicic's nature to play that way. The Croat has a big serve but then just rolls the ball around. It's not a good matchup for him and I think Nadal will break him down early and win in straight sets."

Federer +610 over Nalbandian (Must win 3-2) (4 UNITS)
Federer +239 over Nalbandian (Must win 3-1) (2 UNITS)
As long as Nalbandian loses but doesn't lose 3-0 I have profited here. A 3-2 victory by Federer puts me back in the plus column for the men's draw.

you would be...Fedex as an underdog in a major:a real real tempting sight!!!
I have gone back and forth on this final match, certainly the biggest match of Federer's career. He has a chance to hold all four majors at once, and to finally win the only one that has eluded him so far.He is the number one player in the world and yet is an underdog:wild.
However, I wonder about it turning on him. Nalbandian was ripping him early, until the injury set in. Who knows. I should not bet this at all, and just enjoy it. But, for now, will take the bait and bet Rafa for one unit. I think Federer might want this one too much, and that Nadal is in his head.
GL though and let's hope this lives up to expectations:I think it will.

This is the biggest match I have seen since I have been following tennis. There is so much on the line that it's barely comprehensible. I think Nadal's clay streak is coming to an end. If it doesn't end tomorrow it never will. It's time for Federer to beat Nadal it's simply been too long. Everyone knows Federer is one of the greats of all time and this will be icing on the cake. He's never lost in a grand slam final. Federer has so much more experience in this situation than Nadal does. Nadal is my favorite player but he will crack in this one. People think that the pressure might get to Federer in this one, however I think if it gets to anyone it will get to Nadal.
Not much logic behind my, bet it's more of just a feeling. Good luck to everybody!

Lotta logic there in my mind. I mean let's face it, Federer IS the best player in the world, is incredible at figuring out opponents' games, and then surgically slicing them up into mincemeat. That he has yet to do this to Nadal is the only puzzle.
I think Nadal's biggest advantage, aside from court coverage and being at home on clay, is being left handed. That, and the heavy ball that comes off his racquet and causes real difficulty to opponents. Ultimately, if Federer can make the points quick, and can work on Nadal's suspect second serve, he should finally get his wish, and Federer usually gets what he wants!!

gets to everyone now and then and it got to Federer. Never seen so many unforced errors in my life from him. I think he really has Nadal under his skin. I see him atoning for it in a big way at Wimbledon, and will bet Fedex to win that tourney ASAP.

Federer's backhand was horrendous all afternoon long. Wow. That was bad.
If I were a Federer opponent I would go to his backhand all match long.
Congrats to Nadal. Let's see if he can continue to battle Roger on grass and the hardcourt.
This kid (and I say kid and he is only 4 years younger than Roger) is really in Fedex's head. Right before Roger held serve and then broke Nadal towards the end of the match, Rafa won nine straight points and it looked like Roger was mailing it in as he made four straight errors when returning Nadal's serve.
