Bullshit by Phau. He wanted to play in Dusseldorf and asked out of the tourney in Austira. He pretty much tanked the first match so there would be a shot he would take over one of the spots for Team Germany in Dusseldorf.

Phau lost 3-6, 3-6
Melzer won 6-4, 7-5!!!!
Almagro won 6-3, 6-4!!!!

Potschach & Dusseldorf: 2-1 (+4 units)

ATP has a rule about pulling out late in a tourney. Originally Haas and Kohlschreiber were scheduled to play for Germany but both picked up slight injuries so they contacted Phau about playing but the tourney director in Austria wouldn't let him out of it.

Tennis is the only sport I know that creates and tolerates such crap. Not that teams don't collectively lie down at times, but not because they want to go to in NYC rather than in Cleveland, for God's sake. It is a travesty.
