nba friday playoff picks:
Mia/NJ Under 188.5 ------ 2 Units
--NJ 24th home offense in the league at 92 PPG
-- Miami 9th best Road Defense in the League
--NJ 9th best home court defense
--NJ 6th best defensive team in the league overall PPG wise
In Game 1 Miami scored 88 points.... Game 2 New Jersey scored 89 points.... both blowout victories.
This series has been as boring and noncompetitive as playoff basketball will get. Miami showed how unreliable and inconsistent they are playing a very young Bulls team, you really don't know what you are going to get. Wade came out and hit 3 treys in quarter # 1 of game 2 when he made 13 the entire season. Thats how strange they have been in the playoffs.
There is 1 thing that is pretty consistent with Miami though. If Shaq gets in foul trouble, Miami has struggled. If Shaq stays out of foul trouble, Miami has flourished. I think it's pretty safe to say they want to keep him in the game while NJ wants him to get into foul problems.
Miami is 1-2 O/U on the road in the playoffs.
NJ is 5-1 O/U their last 5 home games... but..
I don't think the lines in over/under were set properly in the NJ/IND series. Game 1 in that series was set at 175 points. IMO that was based on the Pacers defensive success the year before in the playoffs. New Jersey is a good defensive team as well, but Indiana with Peja, a healthy o'neal, became better offensively and didn't play the same style as the year before.
Game 4 in that series then went up to a total of 180.
The scores in those games were mostly played in the upper 80's- low 90's... even IND being held to 75 Points in a game.
So its just my opinion, but had those lines not been set on Indiana's past defensive playoff experience, NJ wouldn't be 5-1 Over the total. just an opinion.
With all that said, after 2 intoxicatingly boring games, I think this one will be played tighter. New Jersey should play a lot in the half-court in this game lowering the total and let Carter exploit Miami's defense like every other wingman does to Miami. New Jersey will do a lot better defending the 3-point line as well IMO.
See what happens. Thats it. Good Luck.
