I am 99% sure that if a ball touches ANYTHING, it can not be then caught and recorded as an out.
Am I correct on this?
Reason I ask is because I'm watching the Seattle/Chicago game, and a foul pup up clearly hit the tarp on the third base side of the field, either before or just after touching 3B Crede's glove in his attempt to make a sliding catch. Then Crede made an acrobatic recovery and caught the ball with his bare hand before it hit the ground.
Wouldn't this be similar to the ball bouncing off a wall, then being caught?
Third base ump was standing right there too....which is the only reason I even question the rule....because I have no idea how the ump could have missed that call unless I'm wrong on the rule.
It was plain as day on TV that it hit the tarp above Crede's glove...
