High Cotton, Sharp Humor, and Sweetnorternsaint until he won recently was a longshot,
i see this derby as being wide open.

Right now the strongest looking horse is Brother Derek. Not only did he romp in the Santa Anita Derby, he eased the last 16th. Am I betting him......Probably. Keep in mind, chaulks have typically had better odds than the usual chaulks at the derby. If you are looking for a longshot Bob and John or Barbaro should have nice odds. Sweetnorthernsaint will complete my Super. With a 20 horse field, it's hard to pick one as opposed to four, but what the hell.
Lonshots are normally hosses 3 1/2 to 1 and over. That said, everyone and their brother is going to try and beat the favorite in this race. As with years past, the favorite should have decent odds, maybe 4-1. Whatever you do...KICK ASS bro.

Longshots are horses 3.5 to 1 and over? What? The favorite is only 3 to 1 and Barbaro is the 2nd choice with Lawyer Ron at 4 to 1.
If we go by you, every horse in the field will be a "longshot" come post time and that makes NO sesne whatsoever.
For the record, I like Point Determined at 12 to 1 right now (which is not a longshot either), and I like Barbaro to finish in the money because of his great post position so I need to find another horse for my top 3.
EDIT IN ------> Good luck guys as always

CuseFan10,
You're right, Brother Derek at 3 to one does not make him a longshot, however those are pretty decent odds for a favorite. At least on the west coast favorites run with much lower odds.
12-1 odds are definitly considered longshot odds at the track...whether you like a horse or not such as Point Determined (who does look good) makes no difference, the horse may look good but 12-1 is still considered big odds. Again I am not saying that I think that your horse is a lonshot to win, just that those odds are lonshot odds.
Depending on the betting by post time, the favorite could drop to the 2nd or 3rd choice and his odds may go up. Regardless, if the gate opens and the favorite has 3-1 odds, he wouldn't be considered a longshot, but it does show that there is (most likely) no clear favorite in the race (odds on favorite).
Differences of opinion, but BOL anyway.

It's only Thursday, will be more exact Fri night or Sat morning. I really like Jazil, very nice closer with the one hole, will have the shortest trip. So he should stay away from the trouble and the big pack vying the middle at the start. I also am watching out for Bluegrass Cat except no Johnny V riding, AP Warrior has some interesting workouts lately and Popint Determined, Keyed Entry and Steppenwolfer in exotics. I don't see any of the low odds horses doing anything, too large of pack.
Jazil is the one I really like right now though. So update later after some more studying.
Good Luck to all

The couple horses I'm really looking in to hard are:
Sweetnorthernsaint 7-1
AP Warrior 15-1
Barbaro 5-1
Steppenwolfer 12-1
A buddy of mine and I have been looking in to this for awhile and he is in love with Sweetnorhternsaint because he is a stalker. Not sure who I'm going to be on yet but Bararo is probably going to be my pick to win it.

"Showing Up" may be a horse worth looking at, look for closers, i doubt that this race is going to be set up like the one last year with a blistering front runner, it's going to be interesting to see which jockey can set his horse up the best coming down the stretch.

I don't know whose going to win this Derby, but I know I'll have quite a number of horses boxed with CAUSE TO BELIEVE and STORM TREASURE... Both of these horses are going to go off at boxcar odds and both of them have the ability to come from way behind and take off like a rocket in the stretch as the tiring speed horses fall to the back of the pack..
One simply has to look at CAUSE TO BELIEVE's performance in the 100K California Derby. He ran a 98 Beyer figure coming to the lead from almost 6 lengths behind and easily winning the race, destroying SINISTER MINISTER in the process.
STORM TREASURE is another horse that can fly from behind.. In a race that's sure to be build around early speed, ANY improvement on his Bluegrass Stakes figures would put him in the money @ or above 50-1 (maybe closer to 65-1 odds @ post time)
Do any of you post on TrackChampion??.. I know Johnny Racetracks used to.. I never really posted there, but I find myself reading posts there on an almost daily basis..
Either way I wish you all the best of luck.. Your best bets on the day may be to have a couple drinks and stay away from the Suffolk simulcast
