well, its getting close to the playoffs now...and we're starting to get an idea (at least 5 in each conference) of who's gonna be playing.

the books have the futures up now, time to place our bets if we're gonna make'em.

what're everyones thoughts?

Im assuming vancouver makes it, thus Vancouver wins it :yeah:

the every 12 years rule. 82.... final.... 94..... final

06..... cup

seriously tho if the canucks do make it they are a legit threat as at least Jovo will be back and maybe both he and Salo. At that point we rival any squad as the deepest starting back 6 in the league. Our forwards are talented and if they keep on in the fashion they're playing now, watch out. Course if they miss :flush:

then I like ottawa or Dallas

not going out on much of a limb but if Haseks back the sens have the most complete line up. Dallas also has solid tending, good forwards and a mobile d that can play. I'd hate to face either in a series.

Det: questions in net
Philly: questions in net
Preds: too small for the grind
Canes: a little too free flowing for playoff style hockey
Rangers: not enough forward depth and secondary scoring
Van: will they make it in? goalie ?s
Sharks: stop the top line and they're done
Edmonton: goalie still sucks
Ducks: Hot but you cant ask scotty to play 40 minutes every other night with no real help back there.

i've been around, lurking mostly.

i cashed out the system for the year, but will definately be back for next season, although i will be MUCH stricter in following it.

i've only just began serious consideration into the playoffs.
the rangers i thought would be the sleeper to at least make it, but they can't seem to get themselves out of this funk makes me nervous...maybe a small play to win east, or make the conf finals.

i've been looking at dallas as a steady, well built contender for a while. if i HAD to pick today, and i'm not definately going to make a play at all, i would pick them.

LOL picking vancouver huh.. Funny how your pointing out flaws on 9 teams that are ALL, yes ALL better than vancouver.. Im a rangers fan but for me to say they have a better chance than 9 teams better than the team im betting for is ridiculous. Oh by the way, nobody talks about who made it to the finals but who WINS it. And VAn hasnt won in a longggggg time.

Is 2006 the year of the Philadelphia Flyers ???

If Gagné and Forsberg stay healthy and if Niitymaki gets hot at the right time...they are my choice.

They have a very big and complete defense.
Denis Gauthier is a great addition to this team...

I actually think Buffalo will win!

I don't think any of the tops teams will make it.

Ottawa, Detroit and Carolina I think will all get eliminated.

Vancouver if they make it into the playoffs, I see a first or 2nd round knock out. Unless they play games like the past 4 against Edmonton and LA. Although I don't see much of that.

Edmonton is a tough team. I think they will put up good fights and maybe pull off a first round win.

TB is they make it, won't go far. They weren't the team they were when they won the cup 2 years ago. I don't see them making it past the first round if they make it.

Anahiem has been hot! I think if they continue playing the way they are now, they could have the run they did a couple of years ago. Sorry, I forgot the year.

Phili if they are healthy will do well! They are getting healthy now and are starting to heat it up. Interesting to see how they make out.

Other teams... I'll have to think about them.

Buffalo is like 1-4 against Ottawa with the one win coming in a shootout. I know the playoffs are different, but I dont' think they stand a chance.

Not to be obvious, but I don't really see anyone knocking off the Sens *unless* Hasek doesn't return or gets injured again.

The West could be really interesting. I think Detroit has all the tools but questions in goal. I think Dallas has all the tools but questions up front. And with Kipper in Calgary, I think they have to be at least considered.

love it when guys dont have the balls to post anything but a shot at someone else, cant be wrong if you dont make a pick eh.

As for my van pick yeah if van makes it I believe they have as legitimate a shot as winning the cup as any of the teams I broke down (det thru ducks, not ott, dallas) and if you read all the way thru you would see that I broke them ( canucks ) down too. The only match ups I dont like for van were of the more complete teams I listed, Ott and Dallas, who would be my legitimate non homer picks but in all seriousness with the return of the 2 dmen I mentioned I do believe that they are within the top 4 teams capable of winning it all.

If you believe there's 9 teams that have a better chance at winning the cup, more power to you bet on em, I dont believe it. Last I checked the thread was asking for thoughts so I shared mine, they dont have to be same ones you had to be valid.

buffalo can do it but your right they have been dominated by ottawa this year....they need the standings to shake out something like this and i think they got a real good shot.....
1.carolina
2. ottawa
3. philly
4. buff
5. rangers

that way if top 4 seeds win philly would play ottawa and they can knock them off...and buff has always played well against philly...there pretty close with rangers and carolina as well...its just ottawa we've had struggles with but we got 2 games left vs them before playoffs to see if they can figure them out.

Buffalo is also wayy over due for a stanly cup or a superbowl we've never had one...this could be our year there in a slump now but im actually glad they were bound to hit one im glad it came before playoffs...

I also think philly has a good shot at winning at there odds of 8-1

In terms of best odds for winning the Stanley Cup I like these:

Rangers 14/1
--They have so much scoring and will be a tough team to play, especially if Lundqvist plays like he did in the olympics they could go a long way.

Predators 31/1
--They have a little playoff experience now but more importantly a great goalie.

Canuncks 41/1
--If they make the playoffs, im sure, they will have the confidence to beat anybody. Also, Salo and Jovonovski will both be back.

I also like Dallas, Detroit Philadelphia and Ottawa but they are favoured more.
