Tuesday Play In Game
Hampton (+5.5). Put this one in yesterday, as I felt it might drop. Maybe I'm crazy, but I think this line is WAY off. I expect Hampton to win the game outright. Seen plenty of Monmouth since I am 15 minutes from their campus and they are VERY small and struggle to score points. Monmouth has 6'10'' stiff Corey Hallet in the middle, and also starts 6'6'' Dejan Delic up front with 6'4'' local product, and best player, Marques Alston (Taquan Dean's teammate in high school). Delic can't get a rebound to save his life at 6'6'' and Alston is a Barkley-esque undersized "power" forward. He is wide-bodied and gives ferocious effort on the boards. His 5.4rpg are all heart, but he's still 6'4'' at the end of the day. They bring in 7'2'' John Bunch off the bench because Hallett is useless. Bunch is slow and awkward, but not totally devoid of skill. Wondering why a 7'2'' player is at Monmouth should tell you all you need to know about his game. In the backcourt, Monmouth has a solid 6'1'' PG in Tyler Azzerelli and 3 point sniper in SG 6'3'' Chris Kenny (a graduate of my alma mater).
Hampton's 2 best players are 6'9'' GW transfer Jaz Cowan and 6'10'' senior center Bruce Brown. This screams mismatch to me seing Monmouth play multiple times this season. Monmouth struggles to getfans to home games as it's a "suitcase" school generally, and I can't see them travelling many fans here either. The Pirates are more athletic and have more size. I don't know know if they are knocking the MEAC with this line, but the Northeast Conference is worse IMO, and Monmouth caught a miracle beating a solid FDU at home.
