They won by 17 on 12/1 and they played again on 1/16 at Austin Peay and won by 4, still looks like a good bet to me.

Bill, just out of curiosity, why X as a GOY tonight? They have been so unpredictable....they lost Thronton against LaSalle, next game they play well and beat a horrible Richmond team on the road, next game they play like crap and lose @ Dayton, Finn gets kicked off the team and they play well @ URI....who knows about tonight?

The students are on Spring Break for the game tonight, so the home court advantage won't be in full effect. X has two seniors...Will Caudle and Keenan Christensen, one gets a few minutes off the bench, the other really next to no time whatsoever. So I've got to wonder how much Senior night is really going to impact a bunch of underclassmen. Caudle and Christensen aren't really team leaders.....now if Thornton and Finn were still on the team, I could see a different perspective from the underclassmen. Its tough to say...with Burrell, Doellman, Cage, Duncan, X still, record aside, is one of the more athletic teams in the A10. The question is whether Johnny Wolf, a freshman PG, will be able to handle the pressure from the St. Joe's guards.

I hope you're right on your pick. Best of luck....was just wanting to pick your brain as to the reasoning.

Thanks.

In respect to both Nigel & TheBeholdah and all else who want clarification to why I chose X tonight is this:

X went into Philly and laid the wood to St Joe's by 4 on 1/4/06. This is the last home game before the A10 tournament and St Joe's is off of two blowout wins at home. X is off a huge win on the road at Rhode Island in an arena that's not easy to play on the road. X has had a few days off and yes this is senior night and X does have the home mystique going for them.

St Joe's on the road is minus 1 margin and won at home by 6 to Fordham.

X at home has won by an average margin of 16, with and without Thornton, their top rebounder, and they beat Fordham at home by 20.. X defensively allows 39.7% FG and St Joe's allows 42.5%, however they allow much higher on the road.

PG, freshman Wolf will be tested tough tonight I'm certain as Nigel pointed out.

Other factors, X is 8-6 in the A10 and St Joe's 7-7. X plays their last game on the road at U Mass and St Joe's at Duquesne.

Laying 3 1/2 at home even with spring break to me really won't make that much difference considering where X's plays it's home games and this is a road game for St Joe's. St Joe's usually plays well in the dog role, but not so much this year.

X is on the heels of Temple right now and the Musketeers very much so want to get into the NCAA's and the only way possible is to wrap up the year on a positive note and play well in the A10 tourney.

I have X winning this contest by 8, without Thornton, and now without Finn as a distraction, I have them winning by 11, all based on home formula system and St Joe's road performances this year. If we just take into account how each team has done their last 4 games both home and away combined, Xavier should win this game by a minimum of 7.

GLTA. As I stated, I haven't been lighting it up of late but I like X in this spot. I don't play them too often mind you, I just feel they are in a great situation at home.

Let's nail it!

Very nice writeup, Bill....hell, I think you may have just sold me. Thanks for the time.

Best of luck!! (BTW, I agree about the Finn distraction thing...it was addition by subtraction.)
