Wanted to get some thoughts on this game. I am really looking at ILL hard. They are off an awful game vs. Penn State and OSU is off of an emotional rivalry game. Also, ILL can matchup with OSU on the inside and they are one of the better teams at defending the 3 ball. Have a hard time picking against OSU at the VCA, but man the 3 points looks tempting. Anyone see anything i am missing here?

Well for what it's worth I am liking Ohio State.
They have much more balanced scoring and seem to have a much deeper team then does Illinois.
Illinois won alot of games last year because they were able to outscore people. I am sure you know they just lost at home to Penn State.
I see Ohio State taking it to a defeated and down in the dumps Illinois team.
I have not been that lucky lately though so you may not want to listen.
Good luck with whatever you decide, People always look and say team have to rebound from a tough loss. I agree that happens, but it usually happens against weaker competition. Ohio State seems like the superior team to me and Hopefully they show that on Sunday.

I have watched both teams play a lot since I am a Big Ten fan. There is no way OSU wins by 10pts unless Augustine gets in foul trouble. That loss at home to Penn St was a let down game. This game is huge for both teams and on national tv. Illinois looks to me as a favorite. I really like the 3pts they are getting. Just my 2 cents.

Home court advantage is the Big 10.
Illinois is perceived by the national media to be a lot better than what they are.
Is it because of last year? I dont really know, but FWIW, there probably the 4th best team in the big 10.
OSU is hot, OSU is playing at home. I'll take OSU at home.

I like Ohio State at home. Illinois is the best defensive team in the Big 10, and while they defend the 3 nicely there is no defense for hot shooters. OSU won't shoot it aswell as they did against Michigan, but they are brimming with confidence on the perimeter IMO. I also like Dials over Augustine because anytime Augustine plays anyone of any caliber he gets into foul trouble.
Revenge is a big issue here though I'll ahve to admit and Weber has had a week to prepare (even if you spent one night of it masquerading as an ESPN in studio analyst).
Probably a small play on OSU at home for me minus the 2.5 my guy has up.

Don't like the game, but lean to Illinois. They saw upsets yesterday and now have a chance to show they are the class of the Big 10.

Boiler, do you really think Illinois is the class of the big 10?
It looked like it early in the season, but then again OSU looked unstoppable at the start of the year also....and at least they didn't lose at home to Penn St, lol, who managed to get flattened at home by Wisky yesterday who is generally a horrible road team.
I mean seriously though, it's hard to tell with all the ups and downs in that conference this year, but I haven't really seen one dominant team that I would say stands out head and shoulders above the rest yet to this point....and I think OSU is every bit as good as anyone in that conference.

Ohio State is the best team in the Big 10 IMO. I've said it all year long and even took them to win the Big 10 in the beginning of the season at a good price.
Not to mention they are shooting the lights out lately and Thad Matta is a GREAT coach... 20 wins every year he's been a coach.

:yeah: :yeah: :yeah: ...got that right.....hot shooting helps, but having a big guy posting 20 and 15 each night goes a long way in getting you open looks to shoot a high percentage. Indiana, Illinois and MSU are going to be early outs in the tourney, IMO. I am really thinking less and less of the big10, though, with each passing day. I think the only complete team on O and D, inside and outside is OSU right now. Iowa is a good team, but only in Iowa it seems.
Ended up not playing the game, but thanks for the responses. I had too many mixed thoughts in the end.

I could see OSU making the elite 8 for sure and even the final four if they can continue to shoot the three at a silly percentage like they do and Dials continues to be a monster down low when the tourney rolls around.. Illinois hasnt impressed me very much I think everyone is just remmebering what they did last year and is forgetting that this years teams isnt even close to the same team they had last year.

this is just my opinion, but i truly believe Purdue is the class of the Big 10.
in womens hoops
I think Mich State and Illinois are both better than Ohio State, but that is just my opinion. Illinois beat the crap out of Wisky in Madison and won at NC this year. I don't think a lot separates them all. Interesting thing is that Iowa does not seem to get much respect and they are running away from it. I do think the bottom of the league is playing much better now than they were 6 weeks ago and all of these teams have to watch out. Penn State, Purdue and Minny are hanging tough. Of course, they still will have their clunker games.
We will find out how real Ohio State is in the next 4 gms.... at Wisky, at MSU and home to NW and Mich. If they win 3, I will believe.

Boiler - North Dakota State beat the crap out of Wisky in Madison too, and Illinois beat UNC in early December in what was the first big game for the frosh class there (who got steamrolled).
I don't understand why so many people perceive Illinois to still be a top caliber team. They are offensively challenged and small, not a good combination. Maybe Michigan State will wake up in the tourney (as usual), but I expect little from Illinois come March.

Ohio St is a dangerous team. They lack one big guy. If Dials stays on the floor they are a top 8 team. Just my thought:thumbs:

No Dak State was a fluke huge upset.
The main reason I like Illinois is I believe they play the best defense in the Big 10. They only give up 56.6 ppg. Even on the road they only give up 56.2 ppg. OSU and MSU give up over 70 on the road. I agree about the offense stuff, but if you can hold an opponent to less than 60 you do not need much offense. And defense will carry you come the tournament.
