Very intriguing game tonight in the swamp.
On a normal night, this game would draw at least 16k, with a helathy amount of Husky fans filling the seats. However, weather issues may preclude this from happening. I have a feeling it will be a raucous environment anyways, with a decent crowd edge for the home team.
SHU has been hot; winning/covering even when playing like crap (re: Syracuse, South Florida)
SHU played UCONN very tough last year in the meadowlands, losing by nine, but playing even with the Huskies the final 35 minutes of the game (started off the game down 15-0). This is a much improved SHU team, with Kelly Whitney returning to form, Donald Copeland stepping up his game (really out of nowhere) and Jamar Nutter turning into the player he was in High School.
The Hall has gone on runs like this before under Louis Orr, with some big home wins against Top 10 teams in the past (Pitt and Notre Dame comes to mind)
This evening will also feature the induction of several SHU players into the school's Hall of Fame, including Ramon Ramos, a highly inspriational figure from the school's 89 run to the Final Four.
For Uconn, this game marks the beginning of a huge three game ROAD stretch. They go at Villanova on monday, and at WVU next weekend.
For the aforementioned reasons, I like SHU to keep it close, and to cover the 8-9 points. I would not go moneyline, as I believe that may be asking too much out of this Pirate squad, but I think, backed by a raucous homecrowd and a solid 3-point shooting attack, they will be able to cover the spread.
